  • Peaceful adults-only site two miles from the Norfolk Broads
  • A 15-minute drive from Norwich city centre; 25 minutes from the coast
  • Atmospheric night-time vibes from lit woodlands; café and farm shop
If boating on The Broads has long been on your bucket list, take a look here: the dog-friendly Black Barn Farm is a peaceful place to pitch up two miles from the edge of the national park. Here, the adults-only pitches are in a 22-acre field in an established orchard and surrounded by woodlands, making for a rather chilled-out stay. This area is known as the big sky country, so splendid sunsets and lights in the trees create a pretty nice night-time vibe. You’ll be able to kick off the evening with a firepit or barbecue too, as both are permitted on site. A 15-minute drive from Norwich, this site is on the edge of Salhouse, a rural Broads village. So, bridleways and footpaths may be the first thing to capture your attention, as they lead the way to walking, wildlife spotting and canoe hire in the Salhouse Broad – or there's a place to launch your own canoe or paddleboard, two miles away from the site. Convenience is key at this site, starting with the toilets and showers inside the barn, all heated with auto light switches for that extra ease. The barn also has a small farm shop and a café that serves up sizeable breakfasts plus sandwiches and snacks. Nearby, a train station and bus stop are within walking distance with regular services to Norwich city centre or the coast. Foodie? The local food shop is a 20-minute walk away along a public footpath (or a five-minute car journey). For more specific bits, there’s a bigger supermarket 10 minutes’ drive away and beer aficionados will find a brewery and pub five minutes’ drive away too.

Liked: This whole site was fantastic. Really easy to navigate and the young lady who greeted us gave us all the information we needed to get going. Being able to pick our own pitch was a really nice change, and having both water and electric on pitch was amazingly helpful.

The pitches themselves were large enough for our caravan, awning and large car, with room to spare on all side. Each pitch was hedged in so privacy was included. Added bonus - then grey water went straight into the hedges to promote less waste which I loved. They were freshly mowed when we arrived and nicely level, making it easy to set up. The pathways were also big enough to allow turning and maneuvering without issue.

The onsite toilets and showers were immaculate. There were 4 toilets (1 accessible) and 2 shower cubicles with enough room to move. As a plus size person, showers can sometimes be a bit restricting but theses had plenty of room! Water temperature and pressure was also great. The toilets were cleaned regularly throughout our stay.

The Black Farm Barn itself was also great! They are dog-friendly which our pooch loved as he got to say hello and explore. The shop had a great selection of local produce and the butcher looked incredible (we had already bought food but next time we will be trying the onsite butcher!). The opening hours were really nice too as it meant the site was quiet in the evenings.

The bins and waste area were also well maintained and conveniently located, making it easy to take care of. There is hidden lighting along the paths at night to help with navigating, but not so overpowering that it affected us in the caravan. The whole place was really well thought out and maintained.

Location wise it was perfect for us. A quick 10 minute drive into Wroxham or 15 into Norwich. The Broads and the coast were equally as easy to access. However, it's also tucked away enough to not get a huge amount of passing traffic so it remains quiet and the surrounding views were beautiful in the sunrise.

We can't wait to return!

Disliked: There is next to no signal or WiFi towards the back of the pitches (on EE at least). The Barn does have free WiFi which is great if you are close enough.
This is just something to bear in mind!

Liked: One of the most peaceful sites we've stayed in. Very large pitch sizes and well maintained / level.

Facilities are very clean and modern.

The barn cafe serves a lovely breakfast and the shops downstairs are great - we bought some gorgeous cakes from one of the stalls.

Wroxham is nearby, city centre 20 minutes away and Salhouse Broads was a nice walk.

Disliked: There are only 4 toilets and 2 showers so could be a queue when it's busy. The sinks are very small and with the soap dispensers it was hard to brush your teeth. The rest of the site far outweighed these small negatives though.

Liked: This is a pleasant site with spacious, level pitches located in a quiet area behind the farm shop. The toilets and showers are modern and clean. It’s great to have the farm shop on site with its interesting selection of shops and large cafe with a veranda overlooking the site.

Disliked: Instructions and signage are poor. There were no arrival instructions provided and no signs or check-in desk on site. No-one came out to greet us so eventually after having parked near the farm shop car park for 5 minutes we just drove around, found the pitches and pitched up. We had to search for the bins, waste disposal and showers without help. No-one from
the site spoke to us at any point during our stay. There are only 2 showers and 3 toilets for the whole site which would be inadequate if the site was busy. It may not be very peaceful on days when the farm shop has a food fayre running.

Liked: Large pitch with access to both electric and water and separated by hedges.
Clean toilets and showers and washing up area.
Toilet disposal too.
Shops and stalls in the Barn were lovely, as was the cafe above (pricey but very nice).

Disliked: Small sinks in toilets to wash in as facilities are unisex. Didn't want to have to shower every day.
Can imagine it being very busy in there in season.
No idea where to go or how to check in. Found a small printed sign on a door which basically said find somewhere to pitch up yourself.

Liked: The location; nice quiet site, but with the farm shop on site, plenty of opportunities for food shopping and for breakfast/lunch on site.
Owners and other staff so passionate about what they have there; nice to see.
Farmer’s market was excellent!

Disliked: It was very quiet when we were there, but if full there would not be enough facilities for the number of people staying.

Liked: Very quiet site with a generous sized pitch.
Handy to be located next to the barn which has various shops selling locally sourced food and handmade gifts. Recommend the cooked breakfast at the barn cafe and a walk to the local pub in Salhouse.

Disliked: Sink in toilet area is too small to brush your teeth.

Liked: Good sized pitch
Access to water on each pitch
Good shower
Clean toilets and showers (except bucket of dirty mop water)
Plenty of hot water.

Disliked: No sinks for tooth brushing etc - just tiny sink in toilet cubicle with no mirror and soap dispenser in the way
Washing up area grubby
Lots of “stuff”left around - mainly items from the main retail business
No-one available to welcome arrivals. Had to just help ourselves.
Retail business clearly the priority - campsite felt like an afterthought.
