  • Family-friendly site two miles from Mundesley beach, with dogs welcome
  • A 15-minute drive from Cromer and half an hour to Wroxham Broad
  • Under 10 minutes’ walk from a village pub and playing field
Nosing around for a north Norfolk break that is well-based for countryside walks, crabbing, cruising The Broads and chilling at the beach? Try Meadow View Camping and Caravan Site, a family-friendly site on the coast just two miles from Mundesley. To be precise, it’s just a 40-minute walk (or a five-minute drive) from its beach and Victorian seafront, where there are beach huts. The site is in a peaceful Norfolk village called Trunch. You might be quite familiar with the place by the end of your stay – and happily so – because it has a social club hosting live music and two beer festivals per year, as well as a welcoming pub with fodder, beer, good music and other events. As if that isn't enough already, the village also has countryside walks, a playing field and a 15th-century church. No need to leave furry family members behind at Meadow View Camping and Caravan Site, as it's dog-friendly. Barbecues and firepits are also both welcome (just note that only firepits hired from Meadow View are permitted). You should have plenty of good tales for the firepit, with there being so many beaches nearby: Trimingham (10 minutes’ drive), Cromer (15 minutes) and Sheringham (25 minutes), for example. Walcott beach, 10 minutes' drive away, is a fine choice, with a café, ice cream parlour, fish and chips shop and a post office with a shop all along the seafront. In Mundesley, there are pubs, restaurants, cafés, takeaways, another social club, arcades, miniature golf, a petrol station and a supermarket – very handy indeed. Just remember that this is a rural location next to a working farm, so there are likely to be country smells and sounds at times.

Spacious, peaceful site with large, level pitches & country views. Friendly owners & super clean facilities are highlights. Fire pit hire, coast & pub access are pluses. A few note potential queues at basic facilities during busy periods. Great value.

Liked Everything. Really lovely location, atmosphere and the facilities were so well maintained.

We are new to camping so don't have a huge amount of other places to compare this to but we couldn't fault our experience. The owners were really friendly and the additional option of the campfire made it all the more fun for us and the our two children.

As it was a lovely open space we were able to relax watching our kids playing and making new friends without worrying about traffic or them disappearing from sight.

We would definitely recommend this place and will likely be returning in the not too distant future!

Liked We loved the vast open field that gave far reaching views of the surrounding countryside, and there was so much space around us it felt like there was hardly anyone there at all.
A good bus service in the village meant we could leave our van and explore the surrounding area freely.
The owners and staff worked tirelessly to ensure everything and everyone was looked after, the site is a credit to them.

Powered grass campsite

Liked The owner - contactable, responsive and informative.
The site - no more than 25 parties there at any one time, so theres plenty of space.
Facilities- toilet and shower blocks always clean and tidy. Firepits/logs/charging facilities and extras such as iceblocks/suncream etc all helpful.

Disliked The only thing that could make this any better would be another sink in female toilets.
An extra sink in kitchen area.

A basic campsite with good facilities and perfect for our holiday.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked Quiet campsite. Friendly. Clean facilities. Men, ladies and unisex toilets and showers. Nice warm showers (two regular showers, one push button, ladies shower had ample space to wash a child). Heaters in changing area. Space. Flat pitches. Choose own pitch (non hook up). Sockets for charging. Freezer. Indoor washing up area. Fire pits for hire meaning controlled fires on site (marshmallows also available). Tidy rubbish area. Noticeboard with a few essentials for sale (toothbrush, washing up liquid etc),also a suggestion of a local walk. A few movable football nets of a nice size for kids (kept my 10yo happy). Space to fly kite. On arrival sat nav took me to the farm house, the campsite is around the back, there is a small sign on the farm house gate to redirect, follow the signs and you'll find it.
Beautiful small village setting surrounded by fields. The village has a pub serving food and does takeaways, closed Monday and stops serving food early on Sunday. Short drive to the beach at Mundesley a small seaside resort with all the essentials. 2 lots of toilets, three beach shops, 3 places for ice creams (highly recommended the one eyed cat), small amusements (not open late), two chippys, small amusements (not open late), pub/restaurant serving food and another sit in diner, crazy golf, playground, small skate park, MUGA exercise equipment. On the high street a post office, chemist and a couple of shops. Nearest town of North Walsham a short drive with takeaways, Sainsbury's, laundrette and petrol station.
Lakenheath isn't too far away so we had F15s flying overhead daily we also saw some chinooks during our stay. They generally flew at sociable hours (usually between 10am -4pm) and we enjoyed watching them. My youngest put ear defenders on when they were at their loudest until we got used to it, they can be very loud.

Disliked Weekends got busy, never queued for toilets or shower but one sink in the ladies got busy for teeth brushing (although I think people forgot the unisex facilities where an additional sink and toilet could be found). Facilities generally remained clean at the weekend but not as clean as mid week (some mess was clearly user caused rather than a reflection on the owners).

Local attractions

When it comes to getting stuck into the north Norfolk coast, you might want to get a tick list going…there’s Overstrand beach and Walcott beach to see and crabbing on the pier in Cromer (all within 15 minutes' drive). Keep ticking them off: the lighthouse in Happisburgh (20 minutes), seal spotting at Blakeney Point (40 minutes) and Waxham (35 minutes) or sandy beaches at Sea Palling (half an hour) and Wells-next-the-Sea (55 minutes). The latter has a gorgeous fishing port running seal-watching trips. Inland’s just as excellent. There’s a generous handful of National Trust properties within driving distance, plus ways to get out onto The Broads in Wroxham (half an hour). You might want to board the Bure Valley Railway there or join The North Norfolk Steam Railway in Sheringham (25 minutes). For all you budding historians, Weybourne (half an hour) has the Muckleburgh Military Collection too. Family-friendly ventures are easily sourced, with various entertainments in North Walsham (10 minutes), treetop adventures at BeWILDerwood Norfolk (half an hour) and all the attractions in Great Yarmouth (50 minutes) like Pleasure Beach, Britannia Pier and Sea Life Great Yarmouth.
