  • Peaceful rural site attached to a 19th-century inn
  • Half an hour's drive from Cromer beach and several nature reserves
  • Within 50 minutes of BeWILDerwood theme park and Thetford Forest Park
Is there anything better than a spacious, flower-filled meadow in a quiet Norfolk village, surrounded by forests, nature reserves and beaches? Yes… a spacious flower-filled meadow in a quiet etc etc… at the back of a pub. Particularly when the pub in question is The Green Man Inn, a 19th-century roadside lodge, just outside the village of Little Snoring, with a big log fire, a shaded beer garden and a restaurant serving fresh and homemade food. Around the area, it's not that quiet in Little Snoring (despite the obvious jokes…). Take a five-minute car trip to the Thursford Collection, where the Wurlitzer organs, steam engines and restored fairground rides make a fine old racket, and very prettily too. Further afield, take your little pterodactyl hunters to ROARR! Dinosaur Adventure Park, 20 minutes away, for wanders through a far from sleepy landscape of animated monsters. And in between your Norfolk adventures? With a long history of being hospitable to travellers, the team at The Green Man Inn make everyone welcome, and that includes both dogs and kids, on site and in the pub. Ask nicely and give a bit of notice, and the kindly kitchen staff will knock you up a picnic for your day’s adventures too. Facilities are simple and clean and, with an extra dash of decency, the washrooms are heated (handy on a bracing Norfolk morning…)

Local attractions

Fancy some time travel? Head over to Holt (15 minutes’ drive) for heritage steam rides on the Mid-Norfolk Railway, poke around the stately homes of Holkham Hall, Felbrigg Hall and Sandringham, all around half an hour away, or connect with your inner cave man at the flint mines of Grimes Graves (50 minutes). Half an hour away, Cromer has all the right ingredients for the traditional seaside day, from beach, pier and fish and chips to lighthouse and clifftop walks. Great Yarmouth (an hour) has all this too, plus fairgrounds and fishy friends of all sizes in the Sea Life aquarium, and easy access to the cycle paths and waterways of the Norfolk Broads inland. Birdwatchers and walkers flock to this part of the world, as the cliffs, dunes, salt marshes and wetlands make for grand vistas and city-sized gatherings of avian life. The National Nature Reserves of Blakeney, Holkham, Titchwell and Holme are all about half an hour off, as is Morston Quay if you’re after a boat trip out to see the seal colony. If you’re more of an inland woodland wanderer, beetle over to the unbeatable BeWILDerwood (45 minutes) for a leafy combo of high ropes, zipwires, jungle bridges and fantasy-themed boat trips. Or forge a path through Thetford Forest Park (50 minutes), mixing sedate cycling with more challenging mountain bike trails, pony treks and adventure playgrounds.

Liked: Convenient for Thursford Christmas Spectacular and the Sandringham Christmas Craft Fair. Facilities were basic and functional.

Disliked: Although it was November, the grass was rather long and hadn’t been cut for quite some time. One of the reasons for booking the site was it had a pub, which was mostly closed. The food was good but a very limited menu, we did have good service though. One side of the pub was closed off, we were looking forward to the real fire. 🙁 For a Saturday evening it was very quiet, there is potential for the pub to do well but unfortunately it seems to be struggling.

Disliked: Was just a field with very basic facilities in a shed. We only stayed there because it was advertised as having a dog friendly pub on site. Well, the pub wasn’t open so we left after two nights having paid for three. Never again

Liked: Nice and quiet.

Disliked: Arrived just before 8pm. Went inside the pub to let the owner know we had arrived and to seek directions of which pitch to go to.

Sadly, not a very warm welcome . Just told to go through the gate as if we should of known this . We asked if we could come in for some food and was told all of the ovens are off. Manor was rude, abrupt and as such decided to only stay 1 night as opposed to the 2 we had booked. We wouldn’t return .

Liked: Nice quiet location.
Well kept facilities.
Good and helpful communication - emailed to advice we were going to be later than the 10pm check in and received a reply quickly with instructions where to go when we arrived.
Local shop with essentials just a couple of minutes walk away.
Not far from beaches such as Cromer. Wells-on-sea. Hunstanton.

Disliked: A lot of what seemed to be goose poo or some similar animal. Didn't bother us overly. Just got a lot on the wheels of our pushchair so had to be careful not to get it in the campervan. We know its impossible for the owners to clear all this but is good to just be aware if you are going with children.
