Well-kept grounds

General

  • Between Cambridge and Huntingdon with easy access to the A14
  • Carp and coarse fishing on mature lakes; kids' activity centre on site
  • A 10-minute walk from Fenstanton village centre

Crystal Lakes Caravan Park is in the Cambridgeshire countryside, covering around 12 acres of meadowland and with small mature fishing lakes that are set up for carp and coarse fishing. It’s a secluded space but with easy access to the A14, about 10 minutes’ drive from Huntingdon.

The village of Fenstanton is a 10-minute walk away, and it’s well served with a butcher, two general stores, a baker and newsagent, shops selling fresh garden produce and free-range eggs, an excellent fish and chip shop and four village pubs all serving food. If you need to work up an appetite for that food, hit the nearby cycle paths or public footpaths to explore the area (there are over 600 miles of public footpaths around, as well as the RSPB reserve at Fen Drayton Lakes).

Facilities back at base include spacious toilets, showers and hand basins, all supplied with free hot and cold water. Washing and drying machines are also available at a small charge. Kids can play games or run about on the recreation field, or sign up for various antics at the activity centre on site (entry charge applies as this is run by a different company).

And of course, there’s the fishing to keep you busy… there’s a small daily charge for that, with carp, tench, pike, bream and others to hook out of the two lakes.

Good location although a bit of road noise! showers were regularly cleaned but still got messy due to the numbers of people on site!

    Disliked:

The warden that was driving around the site like a lunatic when children were playing nearby! He also placed families right next to a huge group of teens (which he seemed to know and we heard him say noise is fine until midnight - rules stated 10pm)! The group were smoking weed, swearing, loud music etc! We never heard anyone come and ask them to turn it down and they were there 2 nights - they were marginally quieter the second night! I don’t actually have a problem with groups of teens especially in this covid climate - they need to go out somewhere - but what is so ridiculous is this warden placing everyone so close to together! Putting a family right by a loud group of teens when you have LOADS of space isn’t necessary! He also placed another couple the other side of us and poor them - if I opened my car door I’d have bashed their tent! There’s so much space - people would be much happier if they were spread out especially during covid! The guy is letting down the campsite!

Friendly site, close to St Ives, and Wyboston where we had activities booked.

Liked the lakes for scenery - we're not anglers.

    Level pitch.

    Disliked:

Just need to be aware of lakes and the need to supervise young children - not really a 'dislike' as such!

Walking distance to St Ives and nearby boatyard.

    Disliked:

    Facilities were very basic.
There were no bins for recycling rubbish, just one skip for everything.
They seem to cram as many tents and motorhomes together as possible.
There was constant road noise from A14 and another busy A road.
