Hardstanding touring pitch

  • Fully serviced pitches with access to paid fishing lakes
  • Around 30 minutes’ drive from Warwick, Birmingham and Leicester
  • Café, wheelchair accessible facilities, parent and baby washroom
Would waking up and walking just a few feet for a spot of fishing be something of a holiday win for you? And how about finding that around 30 minutes by car from Warwick, Birmingham and Leicester? At Makins Lakes, in the village of Bramcote and 10 minutes’ drive from the Warwickshire town of Nuneaton, your pitch won’t just be close to a peaceful peg, you’ll also have a long list of Heart of England holiday highlights close by. Of course, the lakes on site aren’t just for the enjoyment of anglers. Being by the water brings a peaceful feel to all the pitches. There are views over the Warwickshire countryside too, but this isn’t a middle-of-nowhere kind of place. Each pitch is hooked up with electric and water access points. The shower and toilet block have accessible areas for disabled guests and there’s also a family-friendly parent and baby washroom. There’s an on-site café and bait shop and if you can’t bear to leave the lakeside, they’ll even deliver food out to you so you need not stop fishing all day. When you’re ready to rest your rod for a bit, it’s a 25-minute drive to catch a bit of culture in Coventry (UK City of Culture 2021) or 40 minutes to Stratford-upon-Avon, the must-see town for all things Shakespeare.

What customers say

Spacious sites, great lake for fishing. Showers are modern & clean. Some found toilets/wash-up areas lacking. M69 road noise is noticeable. Access roads are rough; general upkeep could improve.

Liked Open site, beautiful lakes, easy booking and easy access to hook up.

Disliked The toilets/showers were not in a great condition, males were dirty but wife said the women’s were clean.

Very noisy and inconsiderate neighbours playing music shouting until nearly midnight.

Liked The fishing area

Disliked The toilets was not clean, they stunk really badly and was dirty. Had breakfast in the cafe and was not advised was no mushrooms otherwise I would not of had the breakfast. The washing up area had all dead fly's and moths by the sinks. Could have done with a clean down.

Liked Big ground lovely clean place and mainly like the shower area.

Disliked Could include more showers and rest room. May be one for the other side of the ground for the tent pitch.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Overall this is a lovely site, with lots to offer. It has a nice cafe where you can enjoy a cuppa while looking across the fishing lakes.
The touring pitch size is good, and fully serviced. Although the facilities are placed so far away from the pitch you have to come off the hardstanding to reach it.
Staff are lovely, friendly and prompt if there are any issues e.g we had someone fly a drone over our pitch a few times and once reported someone came across promptly and dealt with the situation.
This is also a great site if you're into fishing as they have lovely pools to fish in.
The campsite has a pizza van come on a Friday which we have enjoyed previously. Other additions would be great like crepes....
The campsite has an egg honesty box, but sadly there were no eggs on any occasion I looked, but that's not an issue although it would have been lovely to have fresh eggs. The hens have a lovely space and look well cared for.
I have said id come again, but that is because it is local to my family, but there needs to be improved shower/toilet and bin facilities.

Disliked Only issues were the state of the showerooms, they needed a good clean, and the mop and bucket provided never had clean water in, it looked very brown.
There was no toilet paper a few times, so I ended up taking my own roll over in case there weren't any.
There was a lot of tissue on the floor that had not been cleared away in days, and there was what looked like mud in the sink at times. I understand there are some clients that leave the place a mess, but the toilets should be checked more often at least daily. One customer told us they had been there 6 days and it did not look like it had been cleaned even once during that time, and said they would not be returning again. This is a shame as its a lovely site, and although the showers work lovely, it spoils it that it is not clean.
In the men's showers my partner found one shower was broken, and he had to screw it back together to get the temperature to work. I also feel the one of the womens showers needs looking at as it was cold, the other was fine.
We have taken photographs of the conditions, but i chose not to post the most disgusting ones.
There is an ongoing issue with the bins, as we stayed here twice this year and both times the bins were overflowing, although I understand it is a council issue, maybe they need more bins.

Liked Lovely site. The cafe food was really nice & a great price. The toilets & showers were ok. The water was lovely and warm. The fishing lakes were well maintained.

Disliked Unable to fish on better lakes due to matches. Disappointing as this was why we booked.
Toilets left with no toilet roll for long periods of time.
Toilet blocked for almost 2 days.

Liked I didn’t stay long enough to try any of the facilities.

Disliked Really disappointed with communications from this lot. Pitch I was put on was unsuitable so I asked for a different one, I heard nothing back, so after 4 days tried again and got told off for not chasing them up after they “forgot” to help me out. I spent the week a lot happier on an industrial estate.

Liked Loved the site, pitches and setting. The site itself is beautiful, well kept and clean. Although it was quite busy it was quiet which was nice. The lakes are clean and plenty of choice for fishing.

Disliked The showers and wash up areas, they could do with hourly cleans. They can smell and in this heat, it wasnt great.

Liked We absolutely loved our stay here!

Such a lovely campsite with beautiful lakes and a really peaceful atmosphere. The man and woman in the office/shop were both so lovely, kind and welcoming, and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable\. They gave us some great tips about fishing on lake 4, which was really helpful.

We were also so grateful that we were able to keep our caravan on the pitch for the day, especially with the little ones\. It made our last day so much easier and meant we could make the most of our time here.

We stayed on pitch 19 and absolutely loved it. It’s a perfect pitch and we would like be to stay on that one again. We will 100% be returning, and hopefully next time we’ll try a lodge stay too, as the lodges look very nice!

Thank you so much for a wonderful weekend. We all loved it and didn’t want to leave! Especially our little girls. We’ll definitely be back!

Local attractions

If you’re in the mood for a quiet picnic or woodland stroll, Coombe Abbey Country Park (15 minutes’ drive) is a 500-acre parkland made for whiling away a day outdoors. There’s also a play area, zip lining and climbing forest if the family’s up for an active day. Or you could always try out the angling here too if your break really is all about fishing. Entertaining the kids shouldn’t be too tricky around these parts either. Immerse yourself fully in the medieval world of dungeons, knights and princesses, jousting and falconry with a visit to Warwick Castle (35 minutes). Or scream if you wanna go faster at Drayton Manor Theme Park, home to rollercoasters, Thomas Land and a 15-acre zoo. Animal antics of all kinds are also order of the day at Twycross Zoo (30 minutes).
