Lush site

General

  • Cosy canvas glamping on a Warwickshire farm
  • A couple of minutes' drive from Twycross Zoo
  • Heated communal space with kitchen and luxury showers for Glamping

Slap, bang and exceedingly central: if you like to burrow deep into countryside for a glamping good time and still be glitteringly close to towns, cities and well-known attractions, Gopsall Hall Farm is the place tipi.

A base for you, the kids – and the dogs – at Gopsall Hall Farm will have your holiday party a couple of minutes from Twycross Zoo and less than six miles from Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre and the National Forest. The city lights of Leicester are about 45 minutes’ drive to the east, Derby about an hour north, and the galleries and museums of busy Birmingham about half an hour away – just as well the glamping back at base come with comfy memory foam beds for sinking into afterwards…

Each canvas glamping unit has electric hook-up and sleeps up to five humans and three dogs; bed linen is provided but please bring your own sleeping bags and towels. Barbecues are allowed on site, but if you haven’t brought your own, each unit also comes with an outdoor firepit to use free of charge.

No need to bring plates or utensils either: potter over to The Barn, a heated communal space for all guests with small kitchen and dining area along with luxury showers and hairdryers – better keep the barnet in tip(i)-top condition for all those nearby day trips…

Please note

Group bookings of 3 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Grass cut but left on field. I personally found a little high priced for facilities, we knew about showers but only two toilets no hot water for washing up. Electric hook ups trailed across field for long distance can cause trip hazard.

Staff were as accommodating as they could be given poor situation.

We drove off with the skylight open and staff phoned ahead to other staff to warn us.

    Disliked:

The mile long drive has speed ramps which are not easily visible as they have blue lines on them. The overhang in some places along the drive meant that branches hit the top of the motor home. The last few hundred meters is unmade up road with pot holes that are difficult to avoid.

The field with electricity was dangerously overcrowded so even though we had paid for an ehu the only sensible and safe option was to go into a field with no electricity.

It was advertised as without showers which was true but only had two female toilets, one of which would not flush as the mechanism was broken.

Screaming children shouting 'fire' was dangerous and randomly honking horns was simply annoying.

Muck spreading smell did not enhance the experience!

From the manager...

Many thanks for your feedback.

Thank you for noting us to be accommodating. It is disappointed that despite all our efforts such as giving you a warm welcome, repeatedly checking to see that you were ok, phoning to tell you about the skylight, running and getting you a longer hose as yours was too short, putting you into our quieter area for no extra cost (having offered an electric hookup), you still rated our customer service as 2/5. Please email us directly to advise what more we could have done. We would really appreciate feedback in this area as we honestly don't know what more we could have done in this regard.

The drive is a mile long, which means we are in a lovely spot away from public highways. The speed ramps are there to reduce the speed of vehicles. If travelling at a safe speed they do not pose an issue. However, we will work on making them clearer and consider alternative colours to spray them.

We are installing a lovely new concrete road so any road issues will be sorted.

We've never previously had feedback on the branches; if we had received this feedback we would have cut them back before your voyage home.

It was a particularly busy weekend but despite this the site was not at capacity. We offered you an electric hookup but as you preferred more space you chose to go into the quieter non-ehu area. Again, we do take this point seriously and will look at maybe reducing the capacity further even though we are already a very intimate site.

We ask that children are supervised by parents at all times. Upon arrival we asked you to inform us if you had any noise related concerns. Unfortunately nothing was fed back so we could not remedy.

Sorry about the muck spreading. It's the countryside so this occasionally. Please note, it wasn't our muck as we are not a dairy farm.

Many thanks

    Level pitch

    Disliked:

Noisy children, (screaming and shrieking until past midnight) from teepee’s who were left to run amok without any parental supervision.
We also felt there was too many pitches for the size of the field, only two toilets and one sink for that amount of guys wasn’t brilliant.
I think we were lucky with our pitch as the majority seemed to be on a slope.

Local attractions

To the zoo! Less than two miles from base, Twycross Zoo and World Primate Centre is the only place in the UK where visitors can gibber all species of great ape among its thousand or so residents from 200 species. The zoo has a nature reserve and soft play area too to swing around in, and daily activities like keeper talks and animal feeds (wave at the meerkats when they pop up for supplies each morning and the penguins waddling around each afternoon).

Twycross is at Atherstone, Gopsall Hall Farm’s local town on the border with Leicestershire – the Coventry Canal runs through town too to snap scenic shots along the towpath including ones of the Coventry Art Trail, public pieces put up here by local artists.

Since Rick 3 was rediscovered in 2012 under a Leicestershire car park, interest in the possibly-bad king has skyrocketed, so make room for a day at Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre to find out all the up to date info. (Sadly, however, whether he did bump off his nephews in the Tower is still a matter of fierce academic debate).

Townwise, Market Bosworth and Ashby-de-la-Zouch, possible adolescent home of one Mr Adrian Mole, Esq, are both within ten to 15 miles for additional day trips: make it midweek for the former as Bosworth’s Wednesday market has been running since the 13th century.
