Ettie's Field: Visitor image of our pitch

General

  • Colourful site with donkeys, Highland cows, goats, pigs and peacocks
  • A five-minute drive from Atherstone and 10 from Twycross Zoo
  • Dog-walking field available

Tired of one-size-fits-all hols? Trundle along to Ettie’s Field, five minutes’ drive from the Warwickshire town of Atherstone, for colourful stays in a peaceful setting.

This is a site where garden-variety is absolutely not the name of the game, with alpacas, donkeys and peacocks hanging around, and a laidback attitude prevailing all around.

All family members are welcome, so feel free to bring canine chums along (there’s even a dog-walking field when they need some time off lead) – this is prime walking country, with a handful of pubs within 15 minutes’ stroll, and the trails of Hoar Park and Hartshill Hayes within 20 minutes’ drive.

Everything was exceptional. The whole site has a great aesthetic, the pitches were great, we had running water and electric very close. Each pitch has a small wild flower garden separating them, which adds a little bit of natural separation.

The toilet blocks were great! From the outside they look like small, cold wood outbuildings, but the inside is very warm, with nice facilities.

How quiet it was, friendly and helpful staff. The water points are on the same stand as the electric hook up, just in case you can't find them!

Toilet and show cabins were brilliant, very clean and plenty of hot water.

Lovely tranquil site and would definitely stay again & would recommend. The bathrooms are amazing, lovely and warm. The views are stunning. My only criticism is that it would be good for someone to greet you, even just for a minute or so to tell you where everything is & to maybe point out places to visit. There is a pack left but it’s not very informative.

Owners were really friendly and happy to help. The whole site is presented in a lovely way and has a nice layout. We liked the fact that there’s toilet blocks up both the top and bottom of the field. The blocks themselves are actually little wooden huts which feels like your own private bathroom just like at home, they were heated and super clean. The pitch spaces were amongst the largest we’ve ever stopped on which was really nice, the animals at the top of the site were also a nice touch and provided some entertainment for both the adults and little ones.

Genuinely different type of stay. Very quiet getaway with little or no distractions. Really enjoyed the quiet environment. Well presented with everything apart from somewhere to put your grey wastewater. A minor point really though. If you're looking for somewhere to just chill this is the place.

From the manager...

hi, thank you for your review. We do have grey waste disposal, this is shown on the map of the site you receive in your pack on check in, it's by the washing up area just on the ground making it really easy for guests to empty their grey waste. Hope to see you again at Ettie's :)

Local attractions

If the site’s coterie of alpacas, donkeys and peacocks isn’t enough to satisfy ardent zoologists, Ettie’s Field is well placed for even more encounters of the fluffy, feathered and four-footed kind. Guests can walk with the animals at Lucky Tails Alpaca Farm or get into a flap at Tropical Birdland, both 20 minutes’ drive from base, or have more exotic days closer to home at Twycross Zoo, 10 minutes away.

There’s plenty hereabouts for active types too: those at home on the water can sail and canoe at Bosworth Water Trust, fans of the Winter Olympics can go for gold in skiing, snowboarding or skating at Snowdome, and there are rope courses, zip wires, underground tunnels and barefoot trails (for a start) that energetic people can try at Conkers, all within half an hour of the site.

History buffs might want to slow things down – luckily there’s plenty round here to ease them into the past, starting with the award-winning Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre 10 minutes away, and moving on to the ruins of Ashby-de-la-Zouch castle and the far less ruined Calke Abbey, Coombe Abbey, Kenilworth Castle (and Elizabethan Garden) and Warwick Castle within an hour.

Come vrooming back to the present with a visit to the Triumph motorbike factory, then keep things high(ish) octane with family days less than an hour away at Drayton Manor theme park and Hatton Adventure World, and a little further afield at Alton Towers.

Must see

  • Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre (3.7 miles)
