When it’s time to immerse yourself in dramatic Staffordshire countryside, it’s time to head for Hole Carr Barn Campsite, a simple and peaceful pop-up site surrounded by the valleys and dales of the Peak District National Park. Located just off a quiet main road, the family-friendly pitches are easy to find and accessible without needing a four-wheel drive. The neatly mown camping field slopes in places, but there are level spots and no fixed pitches, so you’re free to choose where you want to set up. You can join a number of walking and cycling trails directly from the pitches, and then landmark The Roaches gritstone rock formations are 10 minutes’ drive away. If your holiday style includes a pub lunch or a mooch around a market, it's handy to know that Leek and Buxton are within 15 minutes by car. Dogs are welcome on site, as long as they're well behaved and kept on a leash at all times, as there is livestock in the neighbouring field. The owners kindly ask that you clean up after them too. Simple facilities include waste disposal, portable toilets and running water, but please note that the site is off-grid, which means no showers or electricity. Due to the hilly terrain, it’s not suitable for caravans.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Beautiful views, peaceful, clean. We loved it. Back to bases wild camping. We will definitely come back to have a relaxing time. We had no signal but it didn’t bother us

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Fabulous views located in quiet spot but still only a short distance from Leek and then slightly further afield Buxton and Bakewell. The back to basics setup of the site suited us perfectly.

Disliked Very open without much shielding from strong winds
