  • Adults-only rural Oxfordshire site five minutes' drive from Deddington
  • Blenheim Palace 15 minutes' drive; half an hour to Oxford
  • Farm walks and firepits available; dogs and horses welcome
No children, but plenty of wildlife – and a field of horses as your nearest neighbours… It’s all a very relaxed and peaceful experience at adults-only Francis Fields, in rural Oxfordshire about five minutes’ drive from the market town of Deddington. This is a lovely place to relax and unwind, perhaps taking a stroll around the farm to meet the horses and ponies (ask on site if you’d like a proper introduction), finding a spot for a picnic or just chilling out in a deckchair with a drink of your choice and soaking up the uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside. It’s not just the human guests that appreciate this location – other visitors often include foxes, badgers, deer, owls and birds of prey, all of which you might catch sight of if you tread carefully or sit quietly enough. As an adults-only site children are not allowed to stay here, but travelling horses and dogs are welcome. The local pub, 10 minutes’ walk away, is also a dog-friendly place – and with tasty food and a good range of beers into the bargain. More shops and pubs are up in Deddington, along with a monthly farmers’ market. Back on site, you’ll be staying on a gently sloping field where pitches are mown into the wild grass. Solar lighting illuminates each pitch, the access track and the toilet and shower areas, and there are firepits to hire for a nice warm alfresco evening.

What customers say

This adults-only campground gets high marks for its peaceful vibe, gorgeous country views, and super-clean facilities. Spacious, private sites are a plus, as is being very dog-friendly with fenced spots. Staff are often called friendly and helpful. Despite minor mentions of Wi-Fi and shower lighting, feedback is overwhelmingly positive, with many wanting to return.

Hawthorn Field primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (no pets)

Liked Fantastic location, really beautiful tidy site with well kept toilets and showers. Good WiFi at pitch which was clearly labelled with number and light so as to find in dark. Well mown pitches but with meadow grass in-between, giving nice separation.

Owners were fantastic in rearranging the booking when unable to travel due to thunderstorms (we were touring on motorbikes). Great communications via both email and phone. The map and instructions to find site supplied via email prior to arrival was great.

Not related to campsite - if you're wanting to eat at the nearby White Horse Inn, pre-book! We couldn't get a table on a Saturday night.

Fenced primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Quite, each plot is spaced out so you not on top of others. Very doggy friendly. Our enclosed pitch was very large and perfect to pitch up and have room for the dog to have a run too. WiFi worked perfectly, facilities spotless. We will definitely be back next year.

Fenced primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked This is a fantastic site if you like peaceful countryside. The dog fenced pitch was plenty big enough and clean. The views were amazing and the toilets and showers clean with plenty of hot water. There are only 2 showers and 2 toilets, but we never had to wait even on Saturday morning when the site was busy. Lovely farm walks and plenty to do within a short drive. The site is sloping - as you’d expect for the CotsWOLDS - giving amazing views, so bring levelling chocks. It was also quite windy when we stayed - which was very welcome in 30 degree heat, so bring decent pegs. If you want it there is great WiFi covering the site, even at the very top end where we were. We will definitely stay again.

Disliked Nothing - it’s a great little site

Liked What a beautiful and well kept campsite! The pitches were spacious and you can tell the owners care about campers experience. You are not side by side with others, you have your own space.

Toilets and showers were immaculately clean and saw them being cleaned multiple times during our stay.

Local attractions

Staying at Francis Fields, you’ll be just on the edge of the Cotswolds National Landscape, putting you within easy reach of lots of gorgeous walking and cycling routes (and a good number of country pubs to stop at…) Some favourite options nearby include walks around the Rollright Stones, or a grander tour of Broughton Castle (both 20 minutes’ drive). Even grander are the lavish stately home and landscaped gardens (designed by Capability Brown, no less) at Blenheim Palace (15 minutes). If your current togs aren’t up to scratch for such things, hit the outlet stores at Bicester Village (20 minutes). The Cotswolds Distillery (25 minutes) is another good place to shop, with a café and distillery tours on offer too. Other days out nearby might take you into Oxford (half an hour) to tour the colleges and museums or try your hand at the art of punting, or to the high-speed action at the Silverstone circuit (35 minutes).
