Oxton Hill Hideaway: Farm lake

General

  • Shepherd's hut stays on an equine farm in a gloriously green setting
  • A 10-minute drive to Southwell and half an hour to Nottingham
  • Bedding included and ensuite; easy access to walking and biking paths

Fancy holidaying in a hut with horses all around? Canter along to Oxton Hill Hideaway on an 80-acre equine farm in the Nottinghamshire countryside, with well-equipped glamping units amid 70 acres of mowed paths for riding (or hiking and cycling).

Those who want to bring their horse along on the hol can do so (for an extra charge) thanks to the secure wooden paddock and stables. The site’s also got a 20x40 sand school with jumps and miles worth of circular hacking on bridlepaths to and from pubs, the River Trent and nearby villages like Epperstone and Thurgarton (both less than 15 minutes’ drive). Lots of small cross-country jumps are around the farm, and Brackenhurst – where equestrian events from dressage to showjumping are held – is 10 minutes away.

Not got a horse? This hilltop park’s also topnotch for peaceful country stays among the free-roaming ducks and chickens, with views out across the vale of Belvoir. Sit outside in a private fenced-off garden with a cuppa made in your kitchenette; each hutsalso includes an ensuite, a woodburning stove, an alfresco dining area and a gas barbecue plus handy extras like toiletries, tea, coffee and breakfast bits.

Off site, venture to villages like Hallam and Oxton (less than 10 minutes’ drive) or saunter around the historic 10th-century minster town at Southwell (10 minutes’ drive) as well as its shops and cafés. To swap bridleway hacks for woodland walks amid age-old pines, Sherwood Forest – that of Robin Hood fame – is also 25 minutes away.

Please note

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

Me and my partner stayed in the paddock view hut for 2 nights and all I can say is WOW what an amazing place so peaceful and the view's are stunning, the hut is very spacious even for my partner and he's 6'2, it has absolutely everything you need and a great shower, bed was very comfortable and the hut was nice and toasty. If your looking for a relaxing getaway away from the world then this is your place.

Thank you for an amazing stay and for the balloons and bunting for my partner's birthday it was perfect, we'll definitely be returning in the future.

    Really peaceful, beautiful setting.
Clean and well equipped, we just had to turn up.
Due to the exceptionally warm weather and having our two dogs with us we couldn’t explore the local area but we will definitely come back later in the year.

Just perfect! We stayed in the paddock view hut. Very lovely, private and peaceful. The little details made the hut eg. Welcome board on arrival, games in hut, radio, dog kit, blankets etc. Lots of effort gone into the information pack which was very useful and signs how to use shower, log burner! Had everything we needed and more! We loved having a BBQ with all the fairy lights on as the sun was setting.
Bed very comfy! Everything sparkling clean.
Owners very welcoming and nice- there if you needed anything but also left to your own relaxing time.
Beautiful views and walks around the farm with lots of wildlife and short walk to Hollybeck garden centre which was lovely too!
We wish we could have stayed longer!
