Pub and campsite
Non-electric grass pitches
Flat pitches
Riverside views with plenty of nature

  • Quiet pitches at a Nottinghamshire country pub
  • Lincoln, Southwell and Sherwood Forest all half an hour's drive
  • Kids and dogs welcome; home-cooked meals available in the pub
A quiet spot with views across fields, lots of wildlife around, and walks and cycling just outside… well, it doesn’t get much better than that for a chilled-out camping spot, does it? Actually, perhaps it does – because when you stay at The Brownlow Arms, you’ll also have the added bonus of having a pub right next to your pitch too. And that means easy access to a drink and a meal at the end of your day out – with no need to drive back to your accommodation afterwards (good news when there’s a range of real ales to try out, perhaps…). Just take note, while this is a peaceful spot with no wifi, and during the week, it can be very busy at weekends with regular live music on. It’s a very welcoming setup at this Nottinghamshire site, with both dogs and kids welcome, and a play area provided for the latter (handily within eyesight of the pitches so the kids can have a bit of independence while parents supervise from afar). The pub is open throughout the week for drinks, with home-cooked meals also available from Thursday to Sunday. The site itself has been nicely set up with a clutch of useful facilities including toilets, showers and a chemical disposal point. Campfires and barbecues are permitted, with supplies available at the shops in Sutton on Trent and Tuxford, both within 10 minutes’ drive. Occasionally, there is a smell from a nearby pet food factory if the wind is blowing to the east, which can't be helped.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Staff are very friendly and helpful. We had forgotten cutlery and the happily loaned us two sets for our stay.

Disliked The site was very busy when we arrived and there were only two showers and two toilets in both the ladies and gents facilities for the whole site. These facilities are in need of renovations to smarten them up. We expected noise with it being a pub site and the music on Sat night was good, but people leaving the pub and walking close to our pitch made far too much noise late at night once the pub had closed. We had booked for two nights, but left early as we spotted rats two pitches down from our pitch on the Sunday afternoon, we were pitch number 2. This was off putting and as we lived only an hour away we left.

Liked Great atmosphere on the whole site especially when you nearly always get a live band on from the brownlow arms itself which you can hear on site, always good to know that the quiet times are enforced enabling younger children to actually get some sleep.
Great food and pub staff are great.
Washing facilities are nicely under cover with hot water.

Disliked Toilet block needs a little improvement especially if your in the shower and somebody flushes the shower goes cold but does go warm again.

Liked Overall atmosphere, kind of a strange concept camping on a pub car park but it works! I really cant fault my stay... There are a few bits which i will mention below BUT I AM BEING PICKY. These would not stop me coming back.
Staff in the pub were so nice... Especially the girl. Spoke to the owner one night and he was really friendly. Id have loved to have stayed for the weekend to see the singer. Kids loved playing on the park, rope swing is great! Also the little touch of having the kids toys in the pool room was so good for us.

Disliked Toilets if i had to put something... Full of spiders but im outside, it's to be expected... Mens showers were a bit manky, my son refused to shower in them but we only stayed a couple days so wasn't an issue for us personally.
I would 1000% stay here for a couple nights, i personally wouldn't stay for a week.

Liked Pub, location, service, welcome.
Pitches very spacious.
Good price. We've been to worse sites for much higher rate.

Disliked Toilets and showers need some attention. They are clean but outdated.
A bit noisy with kids at times, but can be expected at this time of year.

Liked 2nd visit here in just a couple of weeks, we love it here.
Beautiful, relaxing, peaceful location, lovely views, right by the river, perfect for an evening stroll.
Facilities are kept to a high standard, there is everything you need for the perfect camping stay.
All the staff are helpful, polite, friendly, welcoming.
The site is perfect, made even better with the presence of the Brownlow arms, lovely local village pub, friendly welcome, the food is too die for, especially the sunday roast, pure food satisfaction, you can tell by looking at the food thats its all freshly made and cooked.
They have entertainment there, by way of live singers/bands perfect way to spend an evening, nice cider from the pub, chilling by your tent, listening to the music.
Going back again in November will be our 3rd time, gutted they are overbooked for our october dates xx

Disliked Absolutely nothing to dislike about this site.

Liked Friendly personal welcome on arrival, lovely level pitch in a quiet spot, seconds walk to the pub which had plenty of outdoor seating and general safe area for kids to play. Very quiet at night post 11pm. Conveniently close to the A1(M) and kids loved the nature - bugs and birds - present with the countryside location. Fellow campers were considerate and respectful of quiet hours. Music performance at the pub on Saturday night was great. Our stay was excellent value for money all things considered.

Disliked Washroom facilities for campers/caravanners really need some attention. Our kids were petrified by the many many spiders in varying sizes present within the toilets. Although the toilet itself was clean the area around needs attention. In the gents, the experience was similar - shower tray was clean and water was warm but some updating is needed... the shower curtain was stained, mats were not something you wanted to stand on, peeling paint and rotten window frames, and the shower head was spraying everywhere. It wouldn't take a lot to raise the standard to satisfactory but it's visible in other reviews that the bathrooms cause concern from visitors. We would have liked clearer signage for the elsan chemical toilet disposal point / waste water disposal. None of this would put us off from staying again as the positives outweigh the negatives. We will just use our own facilities if staying again.

Second area of concern was the safety of one or two of the pieces of play equipment for the kids. One slide had a missing step on the ladder and exposed metal within the structure which could have caused injury.

Local attractions

Working up a thirst for your evening pint(s) shouldn’t be an issue around here, as it’s very easy to get out for a riverside walk or a bike ride on one of the nearby dedicated cycle paths. Something a bit different? Take a short walk to Marnham Boat Club to watch folks water-skiing. For local outings, head to the sobering but important National Holocaust Centre and Museum (15 minutes’ drive) or stop in Tuxford (10 minutes) for the Walks Of Life Museum and Museum of the Horse. A little further away, you may like to visit Southwell (half an hour) for the minster and National Trust - The Workhouse, or Newark-on-Trent (20 minutes) for its National Civil War Centre, air museum and castle. Continue the fresh-air activities with time at RSPB Langford Lowfields (20 minutes) or Sherwood Forest (half an hour), or opt for more city time with a day in Lincoln (half an hour), looking out for its castle, cathedral and bishops’ palace. National Trust members? Check out Clumber Park (20 minutes) and Hardwick Hall (50 minutes).
