A quiet spot with views across fields, lots of wildlife around, and walks and cycling just outside… well, it doesn’t get much better than that for a chilled-out camping spot, does it? Actually, perhaps it does – because when you stay at The Brownlow Arms, you’ll also have the added bonus of having a pub right next to your pitch too. And that means easy access to a drink and a meal at the end of your day out – with no need to drive back to your accommodation afterwards (good news when there’s a range of real ales to try out, perhaps…). Just take note, while this is a peaceful spot with no wifi, and during the week, it can be very busy at weekends with regular live music on. It’s a very welcoming setup at this Nottinghamshire site, with both dogs and kids welcome, and a play area provided for the latter (handily within eyesight of the pitches so the kids can have a bit of independence while parents supervise from afar). The pub is open throughout the week for drinks, with home-cooked meals also available from Thursday to Sunday. The site itself has been nicely set up with a clutch of useful facilities including toilets, showers and a chemical disposal point. Campfires and barbecues are permitted, with supplies available at the shops in Sutton on Trent and Tuxford, both within 10 minutes’ drive. Occasionally, there is a smell from a nearby pet food factory if the wind is blowing to the east, which can't be helped.

Deze camping ligt prachtig aan de rivier met een gezellige, traditionele pub met lekker eten en live muziek. Personeel is vriendelijk, plaatsen zijn ruim. Sommige faciliteiten worden vernieuwd, andere zijn verouderd, vooral douches en toiletten. Soms meldingen van geluidsoverlast en drukte.

Ik was blij met Friendly, inviting pub with a lovely fuel burner. Campsite good value for money. Toilet and shower block nice and clean.

Ik was niet blij met My sister had a shower there, she said there wasn't many places to put your things.

Ik was blij met This is a hiden little Gem, right on the River trent. Very reasonably priced. It is right at the bottom of the lane. Easy booking in at the Pub, which was very welcoming, busy with a nice atmosphere & a log burner on as we arrived in Oct. Pitch was directly opposite the pub with EH on a large hard standing area. Facilities were clean, shower and toilets. Power shower. Outside pot cleaning area next to these facilities. Off the floor campfire allowed. Pub prices for beer were very reasonable £9.40 for 2 pints of Madri, which is great. Apologies we didnt eat on this occassion simply to do with funds at the moment but the food looked hearty and was well priced. Reference walking, turn right out of the campsite along the river Trent and you can walk for miles. We wanted a chilled weekend so we didnt wander around the area apart from along the river. They had a small play area for the kids and a beautiful willow tree, there was plenty of seating outside the pub and it also had a games room with juke box, darts & a pool table, good vibe. We will be back, thank you.

Ik was niet blij met Experienced the landlady's abrupt and curt manner as documented by other users in spite of (fortunately) only having contact with her for approximately 60 seconds. Toilet facilities do need sorting as per other comments. JG Pears? Occasional odorous waft very unappealing. Please just oil the children's swing.

Working up a thirst for your evening pint(s) shouldn’t be an issue around here, as it’s very easy to get out for a riverside walk or a bike ride on one of the nearby dedicated cycle paths. Something a bit different? Take a short walk to Marnham Boat Club to watch folks water-skiing. For local outings, head to the sobering but important National Holocaust Centre and Museum (15 minutes’ drive) or stop in Tuxford (10 minutes) for the Walks Of Life Museum and Museum of the Horse. A little further away, you may like to visit Southwell (half an hour) for the minster and National Trust - The Workhouse, or Newark-on-Trent (20 minutes) for its National Civil War Centre, air museum and castle. Continue the fresh-air activities with time at RSPB Langford Lowfields (20 minutes) or Sherwood Forest (half an hour), or opt for more city time with a day in Lincoln (half an hour), looking out for its castle, cathedral and bishops’ palace.
