  • Peaceful waterside touring site at Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire
  • Symonds Yat 15 minutes’ drive and Tintern Abbey 35 minutes
  • Dog-friendly pitches with electric hook-ups; walks around two lakes
A stay at Herefordshire’s peaceful and oh-so-prettily landscaped Broadmeadow Caravan Park puts you in pole position for explorations of the neighbouring counties of Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Monmouthshire – on both sides of the English-Welsh border. Tucked into a quiet lakeside corner of the lively market town of Ross-on-Wye, the touring site has spacious and level grass pitches equipped with electric hook-ups. Handily positioned water taps and waste-disposal points ensure convenience throughout your stay, along with two well-appointed toilet and shower blocks with wheelchair-accessible and family facilities. Please note that during quieter periods, one block may be closed. You can stroll the extensive grounds around the two on-site lakes, which are sometimes stocked for coarse fishing. Your four-legged chums are welcome to join you on site too, and there is a dedicated dog-exercise area available. Sporting facilities in Ross include an indoor swimming pool and gym (good rainy-day ideas), a putting green and tennis courts. Within a radius of about 20 minutes’ drive, you can also play golf, go pony trekking, canoeing, fishing, cycling or mountain biking, see a film, have a flutter on the horses and take river cruises along the Wye.

Liked Clean site

Disliked Really poor if you want to go fishing as was one of the reasons why we booked the site
Was told by 2/3 people that there are no fish in the lake and hasn’t been for a couple of years now. Shouldn’t be described in their fishing category
Also where you have to drive through an industrial estate to enter the site it is rather noisy on a Saturday morning

Liked Close to the beautiful town of Ross on Wye. Dog walking around the lake and into the town. Exceptional toilet and shower facilities. Service facilities easy to access. Spacious plots.

Disliked Noise from traffic. Uniformity of parking so couldn’t face the evening sun. Actual site needed to have trees and separations to break it up. No fish in the lake as suggested in advert. No WiFi.

Liked Lovely peaceful site, great dog walk on site, showers and toilets immaculate all hours, staff very friendly and helpful. Can walk to the river or into Ross where there's some great pubs, shops and restaurants. Morrisons is minutes from the entrance so very convenient. The ducks come and visit twice a day for their food

Disliked Nothing. Our new favourite site. If you have kids maybe not for you but as a parent whose kids stay at home now, it's perfect 😀

Local attractions

The local bucket-list attraction is probably Tintern Abbey (35 minutes’ drive), the Gothic-era ruin with a splendid setting along the River Wye that has been repeatedly immortalised in poetry. Other local cultural assets include a brace of impressive castles: the remains of Norman-era Goodrich Castle (15 minutes) and vast Eastnor (25 minutes), completed in 1824 and open for tours. If you’re on holiday as a family, go for easy hikes in the Forest of Dean (25 minutes), where you can follow a madcap sculpture trail. The walks through moss-covered Puzzlewood (half an hour) lead through gorges, and there are treasure hunts for the kids as well as information boards detailing the history and geology of the woodland. If you need to up the activity ante, there are plenty of cycle routes to follow too, and the more daring of you can go canyoning along the Wye from Symonds Yat (15 minutes), which is also a popular starting point for kayaking expeditions on the river. When the kids still have energy to burn, let them loose on the rope trails at Go Ape Beechenhurst (25 minutes).
