  • Glamping on a smallholding three miles from Chipping Norton
  • Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon and Cheltenham within a 45-minute drive
  • Easy access from the A44
A cosy place to stay in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, close to country walks… if that all sounds like the kind of combo you could happily deal with, plot a course to Crosshands Log Pods. A handy position this is indeed for all sorts of outings – the site’s just off the A44 for easy comings and goings, and immensely pretty Cotswolds towns like Moreton-in-Marsh, Stow-on-the-Wold and Chipping Norton are within a 10-minute drive. Rural wanders can be had just around the site, and urban ones within a 45-minute drive in Oxford, Cheltenham or Stratford-upon-Avon. Picnic tables are on site for these or any other meals you care to serve up, and each of the units has a mini kitchen area with fridge and kettle for morning cups of tea in the open air too. Toilets and showers are a short amble from the units, but it’s handy to have a torch to hand if you can – out in this rural spot it can get a bit dark after the sun goes down.

Local attractions

Ready to ramble? Take a 45-minute walk from the site to the ancient Rollright Stones, or to the smart Jacobean mansion Chastleton House. Batsford Arboretum (10 minutes’ drive), Mill Dene Garden and Sezincote House (15 minutes) are other options for outdoorsy wanders, and there are plenty of quiet paths nearby if you just want to take in some of the scenery. Nippers need a crash course in country life? Take them along to meet the animals at Fairytale Farm (10 minutes) or Cotswold Farm Park (20 minutes). Got a grander vision of how you’d like to spend your rural days? Head over to the grand Blenheim Palace (20 minutes) to gawp at the stunning state rooms and formal gardens or play in the maze and ride the miniature railway. Kid-free travellers may like to dedicate part of their day to sourcing local tipples for alfresco evenings back on site, taking tours to make sure such endeavours can also be described as educational. Take your pick from Hook Norton Brewery or the Cotswolds Distillery (for gin-drinkers) – both are around 10 minutes’ drive from the site.

Paul's camping pod (Private restroom amenities, disabled friendly)

Liked: The location is a great base to visit chipping Norton, Morton marsh, burton on the water and even further a field, we was greeted by what I’m guessing is one of the owners sadly she didn’t introduce herself and was told that’s our cabin the keys in the door and then mentioned about a local walk you can do, I must admit the first impression of the site, looked a little tired and a bit of a wasteland regarding to where the pod was situated, but once in the cabin what a great little thing, everything you need is in there, unsure if you was wheelchair bound it would work for you as there isn’t much room for a wheelchair, but for us it was great and the added under covering seating at the side was nice and we would return

Disliked: Not really dislikes but little dusty in corners, next to the bed and next to the settee but it’s camping with a little luxury, and the bed I know there’s not much room but it’s tiny for us and really didn’t have a lot of room but the mattress was comfy and just a couple of ideas, where the bed is maybe put so film of the glass like the bathroom window just for a little more privacy without pulling the blind down or maybe build like a trellis with fake ivy just to block the view from the bed over to your living quarters and in the outside seating maybe continue the decking screen so it covers the caravans and wasteland next to it, and only a little thing but as we had small dogs we would of loved them running around on the spacious decking but they could get through the spindles so maybe add a little wire mesh just around the bottom of it

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: We like the area, the children enjoyed going for a walk too.

Disliked: The shower for non pod stayers was not in great condition. Door on roller’s kept coming off, door wouldn’t lock properly, light didn’t work one night so no one could shower in there. I think a bit of TLC for the non pod stayers could help get more people stay. One male and one female toilet left us queuing most of the time too. An extra toilet would have been better.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Camped with our new big tent. Loads of space. Quiet and relaxing and just gorgeous in everyway. Shower, toilets, kitchen with kettle, airfryer and toaster! Superb value for money and well kept site/pitches and firepits to borrow!

Disliked: Absolutely nothing to dislike! There were even some wooden skewers to use as we had forgotten them to toast the marshmallows on the firepit!
