Wonderfully spacious, peaceful and encircled by trees, Bracelands Campsite is on the edge of the Forest of Dean near Coleford in Gloucestershire. Firmly in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it’s also close to the border with Wales for family adventures across two countries. Settle in and you’ll soon be in the mood to appreciate all the natural gorgeousness that surrounds this site – look out across the fields and you’ll see you're surrounded by oak, copper beech and pine woodlands. On clear days, watch the sun set over the trees, and wake again in the morning to see light stream through them at daybreak. With all this space around, kids can play and explore their surroundings to their heart’s content. And that goes for all guests, in fact – all you need to do is walk to the edge of the site and you’re in the Forest of Dean, with all its miles of walking and cycling tracks. A few practical bits and pieces: dogs are welcome to come along on your Forest of Dean getaway (although you'll need to keep them on leads on site please), and family-friendly facilities include a laundry room, hot showers and washing-up areas. If you run out of supplies, whizz into Coleford (10 minutes’ drive), which has a couple of mid-size supermarkets, as well as a load of takeaways, pubs and restaurants.

Liked: Great clean campsite in the heart of the forest, really helpful staff - small laundrette onsite too which was amazing with little children after a small nighttime camping accident! Also loyalty card scheme seems a brilliant idea - we'll be back!

Disliked: With small children in tow, perhaps some sort of onsite play area would've been a bonus but I appreciate that was a short sight in our booking!

Liked: Access to the forest. Lots of space (once Easter was over). Seeing the deer on the site. Great staff.

Disliked: How busy and haphazard the pitches were when we arrived at Easter weekend.
Also that the toilet block was closed for cleaning between 10.30 and 12. Meant we had to be up and washed before 10.30am, which is early when you're on holiday.

Liked: Staff were all very friendly and helpfull.
Site was a perfect location for walking,
Pizza van was great,pitches were spacious overall experiance was excelent.

Disliked: Showers were good but there wasn't anywhere to put your clothes to keep them off the floor or dry other than the door hooks,could do with a curtain and seat.

Liked: Fantastic welcome from the start, all the staff we encountered were all very pleasant and helpful, even the guys who were outside working on one of the new huts smiled and said hello as you wandered past, great feel about the place. We stayed on a gravel hardstanding pitch with electric hook up, good size and plenty of space around each pitch. The water, bins and disposal points were plentiful and all very well maintained. The site is very well kept, and is in a prime location for exploring the forest and ideal for the mountain bike trails which were about 5-10 minutes away. Brilliant toilet and shower facilities, several blocks that meant even on a very busy Easter weekend you never had to wait for anything as there is so many.

Disliked: Not a dislike by any means, but a stronger, more expanded Wifi signal would have been beneficial, I know you're on holiday and in a forest and you could say "just put your phone away", but lets be honest, most of us (admittedly sadly) these days rely on our phones for so much, even if it's just booking something locally. We were a little far away from the main block, and not sure where the signal boxes are located on the site but we struggled to get 1 bar - it certainly didn't dampen anything though, and a lot of sites don't even have this option, and it certainly won't put us off visiting again.

Liked: Friendly staff, clean

Disliked: I understand the need for the rules and they are made clear at booking stage, but for us the things that would prevent us staying there again are:

No under 18yrs allowed in a tent without an adult. So you can’t put the kids in one tent and the parents in another.

Can’t have wood fires.

Can’t pitch awnings and other tents within 3 m of each other.

Some tent areas very bumpy.

Route directions

The route via Symonds Yat Rock over Huntsham Bridge B4432 has a 1:5 gradient incline. It's a very narrow road, unsuitable for large RVs and motorhomes, and difficult for those towing caravans. Vehicles over seven and a half tonnes are prohibited. Instead, from the A40, take the exit for Forest of Dean and Coleford A4136 (Staunton Road). Continue for five miles, then turn left onto Grove Road. After half a mile, turn left onto Bracelands Drive. The campsite is at the end on the right.

There’s simply masses to do in the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley – from adventurous outings to cultural visits. Get the kids up and active with a visit to Go Ape Beechenhurst (15 minutes’ drive) for Segway tours and zooming down zipwires, and head for the Forest of Dean Adventure Park Bracelands Site (five minutes) for jumping around on ropes, climbing towers and practising archery. Or maybe you fancy kayaking down the River Wye from Wyedean (15 minutes)? For less strenuous days out, have an amble around the mossy woodland trails at Puzzlewood (10 minutes), or get your culture fix at National Trust-owned Westbury Court Garden (25 minutes), with delightful formal plantings around an ornamental lake. Lunchtime? Pack a picnic and eat it at Symonds Yat Rock (five minutes) while enjoying the view of the River Wye winding through its gorge. Prefer a pub? Changes to your holiday

Bookings cannot be amended within 14 day(s) of arrival.
Modifications are subject to a £12.00 ($14.64) fee.

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

If the reception is closed on arrival, please check in at the Door Bell at Reception.
Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
The park will send you further check-in information 1 day(s) before your arrival.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leashes and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.
