What customers say

This spacious Forest of Dean campsite boasts direct forest access & lovely views. Guests rave about the friendly, helpful staff, clean (though dated) facilities, and peaceful vibe. Great for walks & cycling, with deer sightings common. Ideal for nature lovers, despite some sloping pitches & spotty Wi-Fi.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked One of our favourite places to stay. It's beautiful in summer or winter and a great place if you love walking or cycling. Great facilities and a wonderful place to relax in nature. My favourite part are the fallow deer wandering around the site. My dog definitely enjoys watching them

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Being able to select your own pitch. There were plenty available and we got a great location. Perfect for watching sunsets. Amazing to see the deers pass through in the nighttime.

Disliked We were told all 3 toilet blocks would be open for our stay when we checked in - I specifically asked, however on day 2 of 5 the block closest to us shut. Meaning a longer walk to use the amenities.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked The location is fantastic

Disliked The curfew is ridiculous.
Felt like I was being treated like a child with a bedtime.
The areas for the non electric pitches are on a hill. We got lucky and managed to find a flat spot right at the furthest point but otherwise would’ve been super frustrated at having to camp on a hill.
Toilets and showers were okay but had a leisure center feel to them! Nothing special.

Liked Great location for local drives/walks to excellent places.

Disliked Not so much a dislike but food truck only really open in season which makes sense. WiFi not so good deeper into the forest.

Camping pod

Liked We have always camped at Bracelands. I came here as a child and have brought my children and now my foster son. We love the area. The staff are always friendly and approachable. The facilities are good. This time we stayed in a pod for the first time. It was fantastic. The beds were comfy, the pod warm and snug, we had electricity and we were close to the washing up area and toilets and showers. The nearby town of Coleford had plenty of takeaway shops and supermarkets. We visited Goodrich castle and had a lovely afternoon there. I love coming to Bracelands especially as my foster son had a learning disability. He loves it here and I’ve been bringing him for the last 7 years. He loves the space. One of the best sights was the night sky on our first night. No light pollution and the clear sky was awe inspiring to say the least. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many stars.

Disliked Nothing.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Lovely campsite in a stunning location! Staff are great! Our children love it here, laid back vibe, very safe site and very clean. We love the “Bracelands bubble” and escaping the madness of normal life, you feel like you’re far away from civilisation, even though everything you need is fairly close by.
Love the pizza van that comes twice a week and the new onsite coffee van is a great idea but unfortunately it wasn’t open when we ventured up one morning to try it.

Disliked We come every year and this year noticed the toilet blocks are in dire need of upgrading! Lots of toilets and shower cubicles were out of use. Some doors were missing locks. And it’s just generally looking very tired and run down, a real shame because the site itself is so beautiful! Based on this I feel it was overpriced and after 15 years of coming, I would actually question if we would return again next year.
The site could also benefit from some levelling out to a lot of the pitches.
Looks like a lot of money has gone into new glamping accommodation and original site has been somewhat forgotten.
There was also tree management (I presume by the forestry commission rather than the site) going on during our stay, which was particularly noisy and I feel we could have been warned of this at booking, especially as it was high season.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked The site was lovely and clean and in a perfect spot for walks.

Disliked So many loud campers after 10 and other campers taking up more room than they really should. Ie outdoor seating areas. The on site shop and food could be better.

Route directions

The route via Symonds Yat Rock over Huntsham Bridge B4432 has a 1:5 gradient incline. It's a very narrow road, unsuitable for large RVs and motorhomes, and difficult for those towing caravans. Vehicles over seven and a half tonnes are prohibited. Instead, from the A40, take the exit for Forest of Dean and Coleford A4136 (Staunton Road). Continue for five miles, then turn left onto Grove Road. After half a mile, turn left onto Bracelands Drive. The campsite is at the end on the right.

Local attractions

There’s simply masses to do in the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley – from adventurous outings to cultural visits. Get the kids up and active with a visit to Go Ape Beechenhurst (15 minutes’ drive) for Segway tours and zooming down zipwires, and head for the Forest of Dean Adventure Park Bracelands Site (five minutes) for jumping around on ropes, climbing towers and practising archery. Or maybe you fancy kayaking down the River Wye from Wyedean (15 minutes)? For less strenuous days out, have an amble around the mossy woodland trails at Puzzlewood (10 minutes), or get your culture fix at National Trust-owned Westbury Court Garden (25 minutes), with delightful formal plantings around an ornamental lake. Lunchtime? Pack a picnic and eat it at Symonds Yat Rock (five minutes) while enjoying the view of the River Wye winding through its gorge. Prefer a pub? The renowned half-timbered Saracens Head Inn (15 minutes) sits on the river bank and is a great place to stop for lunch or a glass of something chilled. And to say you’ve been to Wales, hop across the border to Monmouth (20 minutes) and tour its castle and military museum.
