View of the pitches

  • Peaceful location on a farm near Buxton, with Peak District views
  • A 25-minute drive to Chatsworth House; 40 minutes to Alton Towers
  • Grass site near the High Peak Trail; pubs within walking distance
Set on a secluded working farm with glorious views over Derbyshire hillsides, Flagg View is a no-frills camping site with just a handful of pitches and plenty of space for all. For lovers of bracing fresh air and outdoor adventures, this quiet spot is close to loads of activities in the Peak District National Park. Yep, you can keep the family (and your canine pals) busy on moorland and hill walks to ancient stone circles and hill barrows. Other activities within a half-hour’s drive include kayaking and sailing on Tittesworth Reservoir, teeing off on several golf courses, or fishing. Pick up supplies for your barbecue at handy supermarkets in Matlock (half an hour’s drive), although there’s no pressure to cook really, as several cosy inns offering real ales and classic pub menus are within walking distance. A couple of local farm shops produce award-winning ice cream (great for bribing the kids to behave), where you can also pick up meat cuts to grill on the barbecue (bring your own gear). This being a straightforward stop, there’s no hot water available on site, and basic amenities don’t stretch any further than chemical waste disposal.

This small, peaceful farm site boasts stunning 360° countryside views and a super friendly owner, Jack. Pitches are well-maintained with hookups. It's great for walks, cycling, and nearby pubs. Basic facilities are noted, but most found it perfect for a quiet, great-value getaway.

Liked We were greeted by the land owners and made to feel very welcome. If we needed any help we were just to message or call. Information on nearby pubs/facilities were given for us to keep. Also we had the opportunity to buy their eggs which I watched being collected that morning :)
The view was 360 degrees and sunrise/ sunset was breathtaking.
Quiet and peaceful. Affordable.

Disliked The weather :(

Liked What a fantastic site, 7 pitches on a farm, stunning 360 views, Jack the farmer was very accommodating called us to check we were coming but we were a few hours late as we had a tyre blowout on the M1, but he said no problem we will see you when you get here. He knocked on the van on Christmas day with a big bag of celebrations what a very kind gesture and we enjoyed them very much, we had a lovely walk to The Royal Oak pub on Christmas Eve for lunch absolutely lovely food chatty locals, dog friendly. We will definitely be back, jack messaged us when we left to check we have a nice time as we didn't see him when we left early. Keep up the good work guys amazing

Disliked Absolutely nothing.

Liked Its a basic quiet site, ideal for us. We had a lovely welcome from the host not long after we arrived and he called us in the morning to let us know which pitch is ours, great communication.

As others have said the pitches are on a slope so you will need leveling blocks. Stunning views over the surrounding countryside.

We will certainly stay here again if in the area.

Liked Good access to hardstanding pitch. This no frills site is just like a Caravan Club Certified Location. Has everything you need for an independent set up at a fair price. Jack was helpful and provided a good information sheet. Good views over countryside and quiet.

Liked Views are stunning, simple no frills pitch, capacity to empty grey waste on site.
Peaceful and safe. Great communication from helpful owner.
No loos or showers but we knew that before booking, so no problem for us as we are self sufficient.

Disliked Difficult area to catch WiFi but my 4G was just about working. Wasn’t really a problem for us but may be for some.

Local attractions

Valleys, lakes and moors are just waiting to be explored on foot or bike, with the Three Shires Head circular route (20 minutes’ drive) revealing waterfalls and rock pools for paddling. Serious cyclists can access the High Peak Trail in minutes, and if you didn’t bring the bikes, hire them at Parsley Hay (five minutes). It’s worth a potter around cute Peak District towns like Bakewell with its lovely Wye riverside walks, and Buxton (both 15 minutes), where you can catch performances at the grand opera house. There’s plenty on offer for culture vultures too; Chatsworth House is packed with art treasures and its extensive grounds make a perfect picnic spot, while you can explore Tudor-era rooms at fortified Haddon Hall (both 25 minutes). Top of the to-do list for kids may well be the thrill rides at Alton Towers (40 minutes), but if your children are younger, you might fancy an afternoon’s pirate-themed fun on gentle log flumes at Gulliver’s Kingdom or a cable-car ride up to the Heights of Abraham (both half an hour) outlook for cavern tours and fossil exhibitions.
