Pitches

General

  • Peaceful caravan park in the Peak District National Park
  • A 20-minute drive from Chatsworth Estate and 10 minutes from Buxton
  • Award-winning pub within walking distance

A peaceful, well-kept site, within easy reach of Buxton and Bakewell and a short stagger from an award-winning pub – Farditch Farm is quite the Peak District pleaser.

This friendly park in the village of Chelmorton is the place to settle for a little while if you seek your own space; valuing quality over quantity, the owners have elected to set up just a handful of pitches, each one spacious and surrounded by landscaping for the dual win of privacy and pretty colour.

Facilities have been limited to the essentials to maintain an uncrowded vibe. But what essentials they are – the smart central facilities building has a cosy lounge area, games room and communal kitchen, and the adjacent toilet block has all mod cons, including plenty of showers, an accessible bathroom and handy touches including hairdryers.

Skipping out from the site you can your pick from rural rambles on the miles and miles of trails that network the Peak District National Park, sampling the puddings in Bakewell and taking the waters in the spa town of Buxton. Pick up your eats at Chatsworth’s farm shop, 20 minutes’ drive away, or wander down to the local pub, the Church Inn, to see why it’s picked up awards for its offerings (tasty food and a fire by which to sup your pint, perchance?)

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Tents are not accepted at this park.

Minimum spacing of 3 metres between pitches.

The kitchen facilities are closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

Group bookings of 4 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Single-sex bookings of 4 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Reception is closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

The games room is closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

The shower facilities are closed. Guests will need to use their own facilities.

The toilet facilities are closed. Guests will need to use their own facilities.

Location, dog walking area, great showers, wifi

    Disliked:

Pitch not long enough, resulting in jockey wheel on tarmac whilst axle was on the hard standing, this made it impossible to get level. Pitch is advertised as 7 meters, our van is only 6.8 meters? Site closed on 23rd March due to Covid-19, we were still there on 24th March with no mention of site closing, found it unacceptable that toilet/shower block wasn’t cleaned for 2 days. Noise from main road.

From the manager...

We are sorry you felt the need to complain about our cleanliness and hygiene standards. The facilities were cleaned on 21st and scheduled for cleaning again on 23rd, as there were so few guests staying( 4 adults). We believe 4 showers, 6 toilets and basins, plus a bathroom would be adequate for the use of 4 people?
Following the Government announcement on Sunday evening we made the decision not to send our cleaning staff on site on 23rd. The health advice was for the facilities to be left 72 hours prior to cleaning taking place. All our previous reviews praise the impeccable housekeeping standards we maintain, so I apologise that we did not meet with your approval.
We trust you are keeping well.
Kind Regards
Alison & Sue

Excellent location and a really clean and smart site. It's ideal for walks in the country and the facilities are excellent for dogs. The nearest pub is a 20 minute walk, so it's really quite remote. There is some road noise on a weekday but it soon disappears over the weekend. Really good size pitches with parking as well and water, grey and electric on each pitch. Really friendly staff and the views are exceptional.

Lovely site that had obvioualy had a lot of thought put into the layout and facilities. Great shower block, impeccably clean, practical/communal/laundry/kitchen area and great size plots with neighboring space for car. Good communication regarding our visit. There was space for 8 tourers but we were the only ones there for our short break. Cannot comment therefore on what the site might be like with full occupancy although I am optimistic that this would not affect our enjoyment.

    Disliked:

Whilst I would absolutely visit the site again, I will do this in the knowledge that there is a reasonably busy main road running along side the site which was used by lorries as well as other vehicles which did impose on the peace and quiet at times.

This small site was excellent and extremely well maintained. The toilet/shower/common room facilities were exceptional and spotless.
The pitches were all hard standing and the services provided great especially for novices like us.
The Church Inn in the village was very welcoming and the food great. Although it was a longer walk the advertised. It took about 25 minutes and a torch would be useful.

    Disliked:

Slight niggle that we could not get TV reception due to the proximity of the trees to pitch 3 and also the road noise was slightly intrusive

Local attractions

With Chelmorton in the midst of the Peak District National Park, there are heaps of outdoorsy activities within easy reach. Walkers and cyclists have miles of trails to pick from; popular favourites nearby include the Tissington and Monsal trails. Horse riding, canoeing and climbing excursions are also available around the park.

And might you fancy pottering around the country’s fave country house? Then it’s off to Chatsworth, 20 minutes from the site – the Italianate stately home has been voted to the top of the polls several times for its fab collection of art, its stunning state rooms and its gorgeous gardens. There’s also a farmyard and playground here for the amusement of smaller visitors.

Plan to spend a bit of time in both the local towns of Buxton and Bakewell – the former for its grand opera house and elegant spa town heritage, the latter for poking about in the market and sampling its famed sweet treats (which is better – the tart or the pudding? Well, there’s only one way to settle that debate…)
