  • Peaceful park near the Peak District
  • Easy access to Derby and Nottingham; two pubs five minutes' walk away
  • New toilet and shower block kept to immaculate standards
What a peaceful park this is for Peak District hols – on 11 acres of quiet woodland near the national park and set deep in the Derbyshire countryside with picnic areas peppered all around. And what a pleasing park this is for those who insist on amenities being immaculate and up to date – the toilet and shower block comes with disabled access, baby changing and showers with hot and cold water, and is kept in tiptop condition at all times by the friendly site team. Riddings Wood Holiday Park is a rural park but with easy access to urban centres like Derby and Nottingham as well as to the hikes, bike rides and canters of the Peak District. (If you're a bit bamboozled as to what to do first, have a look at the tourist info point in reception or ask the team for tips.) Campfires are allowed if you need a bit of warming upon return. And finally, what a pint-friendly site Riddings Wood is too – the only thatched-roof pub in Derbyshire, Moulders Arms (aka The Thack), is a short stroll away; and the Seven Stars, a community pub, is just across the road. Cheers…

What customers say

This campsite gets rave reviews for friendly staff, clean facilities, and a lovely woodland setting. Guests loved the peaceful vibe, spacious sites, and proximity to pubs & attractions. The playground is a hit. Minor gripes included pitch leveling, occasional mud, and facility distance. Improvements are underway, though some upkeep is still needed.

Liked Really friendly staff.
Great little playground space for the kids to play at.
Really quietened down in the evening with a general relaxed vibe.
Short 15 minute walk to two lovely little pubs.
Clean toilets, showers and washing up space.

Disliked Non electric pitches are mostly on a slope so limited number of ideal pitches available.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Really liked this holiday park. Nice and small. With everything around you. Reception staff lovley and welcoming. We really enjoyed this site, the kids loved the park and the woods behind us with the dogs. It was very peaceful and the other campers around was friendly and respectful. Clean showers and toilets.

Disliked Would be better if the showers were on for long enough. Washing your hair with shampoo and having to press the shower on again as it kept turning off after 10 seconds each time was abit annoying. But other than that I had a lovley time.

Liked The playground was great. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice hot showers. Lovely walks nearby. Great to be surrounded by tall trees and woodland. Two great pubs a short walk away. One does nice food, the other shows sports and has a pool table.

Disliked The site is a hill. Some flat parts for tents. Would be great if there was a cafe nearby.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Pitch size was really good, clean site overall.
Playground was great for the kids.
Toilet facilities were modern.
Staff were welcoming.
Easy to get to from the M1, although smaller streets to get to the site.
Plenty of food shops within 5-10 mins drive.
Was also able to order takeaways to the site for a night that we didn't feel like cooking, I'd recommend the local chinese.

Disliked Toilets ran out of paper a few times during busy times, maybe just carry your own to avoid this.
Toilet block was at the top of a hill on site compared to the tent area at the bottom, had to carry a torch to walk up at night.

Liked Facilities were well looked after, nice warm shower, friendly staff, in the shop there was options to buy things to make a fire with

Disliked Sewer smell throughout our stay which was really off putting. We were also on a slope, I know when you’re camping you’re out in nature but maybe they should block off the sloped pitches as it felt as though we were falling out of bed all night

Liked What a lovely place for our very first camping experience. The gentleman at the reception was lovely. I'm so pleased we was put in the area near the park our boys loved it. The shower and toilets was very clean.

Disliked I wish the shower and toilets was closer to where we was staying. It was quite a walk.
The area in the middle was very cramped we was very pleased not to have been placed there.

Liked Amazing facilities, all exceptionally clean.
Incredibly friendly staff and super helpful through out stay.
Very accommodating.

Disliked Pitches are very close together so when fully booked (as it was when we visited) it’s hard to have any privacy in your tent area.
Mainly family campers- including lots of dogs. (A few dogs in our area where not well behaved which made it hard to have a peaceful stay and quiet night)

Local attractions

To the Peak! The Peak District National Park is but a short drive from Riddings Wood Holiday Park, and has a bit of what you fancy for all ages and inclinations. If you're in the area to hike, there are more Peak District trails than you can shake a (walking) stick at, from the shorter treks of seven or so miles around the upper Dove Valley and Pilsbury Castle, to long-distance paths like the Limestone Way (46 miles), the Derwent Valley Heritage Way (55 miles) or the Peak District parts of the Pennine Way, running for 268 miles from the northern Peak District to just inside the Scottish border. Climbers and cavers also delve into all things Peak: thousands of routes for all abilities are all over the park for climbers, including Burcen Edge for beginners and more hair-raising ascents like Debauchery and Mad Dogs and Englishmen for the severely experienced. If you're of a cavernous disposition, make your way to the village of Castleton and its four show caves, Blue John, the Peak, Treak Cliff and Speedwell Cavern with underground boat trip. Matlock Bath has a cable car to take adventurers to limestone caverns The Heights of Abraham, and Poole's Cavern near Buxton has vast caves to explore before an above-surface walk around Buxton Country Park. Other attractions like Chatsworth House and Gardens and the old Crich Tramway are to hand for the historically-minded, alongside old Peak District villages and market towns for tearooms, restaurants, family pubs and lots of shopping: try Buxton, Ashbourne and Bakewell to start you off. Back at Matlock Bath, let the kids go large at the rides and attractions of theme and play park Gullivers Kingdom for ages two to 13; the 600-acre Matlock Farm Park nearby should keep them busy for a bit too.
