Church bay beach

  • Dog-friendly Anglesey pop-up site with views of the sea and Snowdonia
  • Walking distance from beaches, the coastal path and summit trails
  • Walk to the pub, seafood restaurant and café; shops a short drive out
Wake up and walk the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path, or perhaps challenge yourself to a local hill summit. Based on the northwest coast of Anglesey, you’ll have lots of choice over how to spend your time from Llain Ffynnon Camping. A morning brew over the site's sea views? Taking the 15-minute walk down the closest beach for a quick dip in the sea? Or perhaps you’d rather go for a dog walk towards the mountains (after all, dogs are welcome here too). You’ll need a good pair of shoes, that’s for sure. One of the big perks of this site is that it’s easy to get to many places on foot. The local pub in Church Bay is only half an hour’s walk away. It’s also on the way to the rockpools at Porth Swtan beach (40 minutes’ walk) or the seafood restaurant and café close to the shore. You’ll get an idea of the splendid walks around these parts just from glancing at the views from this site. Based quite high up, Llain Ffynnon Camping doesn’t just have views over the northwest coast – you'll catch Snowdonia's mountains, Ireland, the Isle of Man and the northwest of England on a clear day too. The site is only a short walk from access points to several well-maintained public footpaths, including one with access to the Mynydd y Garn summit. If you need to pack some snacks and sandwiches before you go, there are two local food shops in Llanfaethlu or Tregele, 10 minutes’ drive from the site. Once you're back at base, make use of the hot shower and toilet facilities available to freshen up again.

What customers say

Awesome sea views and a chill, big site. Owners are super friendly and keep the loos spotless. Camp wherever, walk the coast, catch sunsets. It's basic, wild camping style (cold water mostly, hot showers coming!), but can get windy up there. Perfect for a cruisy, no-frills break.

Liked This is a great place with a convenient location, perfect for our visit. The owners are friendly, welcoming, and very helpful. The toilet facilities, which were clean and well-maintained, were somewhat aged and could benefit from a slight refurbishment. Overall, it provided a comfortable and charming stay.🤭

Liked The views from this site are amazing! It is so quiet and the owners are very welcoming. They are diligent with cleaning the shower and toilets regularly throughout the day. They regularly tour the site to check all is ok with everyone.

Disliked There can be quite a queue for the toilets and shower if the site is busy. On two occasions there was no water however this was soon fixed.

Liked Everything.
Just back from a second stay in 10 days. Absolutely loved it! The family who own it are friendly, down to earth, hard working people. They make sure everything is spot on. Much thanks to Darragh, Carys, Hugh and another lovely lady who's name I never caught, apologies.

Unpowered grass and earth tent or trailer tent site

Liked Beautiful site. Caring, attentive owners. We had an issue with some antisocial behaviour of other guests on the first night. The swift action of the owners ensured that the behaviour was addressed and stopped straight away.
Three toilets, a cold shower and a hot shower, kept immaculately clean and stocked up, as was the dish washing area.
The site was in a perfect location for travelling to nearby attractions, but was right next to the most beautiful little beach. We will definetly be staying again soon.

Disliked Not a dislike, but a bit of a concern. We found that quite a few of the younger guests (late teens, early 20s) would drive up to the toilet area, sometimes at speed. This was dangerous for the families set up near the facilities as the children would be playing outside.
This area would be better reserved for disabled guests or those with mobility issues (and owners of course.)
This would avoid a back log of cars around the area.
I understand that some would have a bit of a walk, but we're in an area of outstanding beauty, and walking really should be expected. Or pitch up closer to the facilities!

10/10! Fantastic location with beautiful views across Anglesey. The prices are very reasonable, and the site is a lovely, peaceful place to stay.

There isn’t a huge amount to do immediately around the campsite, so expect a short drive if you want to get to the beach, pubs and bars. That said, Anglesey has loads to offer, including plenty of free things to see and do, so I’d definitely recommend researching the area and planning your visit beforehand.

Overall, we had a brilliant stay and would 100% come back. Highly recommended!

Disliked Nothing to dislike — we had a fantastic stay. Just be aware that most beaches, pubs and bars require a short drive from the campsite.

I’m with o2 and couldn’t get signal. Not the campsites fault at all

Local attractions

You might first spot the Goleudŷ Ynysoedd y Moelrhoniaid (The Skerries Lighthouse) from the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path. Up close, after a chartered boat ride from Holyhead (25 minutes’ drive), the view is even better, and the birdwatching just as splendid. The seabird colony at Cemlyn North Wales Wildlife Trust Reserve (10 minutes’ drive) is pretty spectacular to watch too. A shingle ridge, lagoon and plants such as sea kale and sea campion are part of the highlight reel at this place – just the thing if you're a fan of spying on wildlife. Those of you who are planning on spending a lot of your downtime beside the sea will be happy to find that there are a number of beaches that are easy to get to from Llain Ffynnon Camping. In fact, the National Trust’s Traeth Ynys y Fydlyn is half an hour’s walk away, and there are caves and rockpools to rummage around down there. Further out, other gorgeous beach locations include Cemlyn Bay (15 minutes’ drive), Porth Trwyn (10 minutes) and Traeth Porth Wen Beach (15 minutes).
