Church bay beach

  • Dog-friendly Anglesey pop-up site with views of the sea and Snowdonia
  • Walking distance from beaches, the coastal path and summit trails
  • Walk to the pub, seafood restaurant and café; shops a short drive out
Wake up and walk the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path, or perhaps challenge yourself to a local hill summit. Based on the northwest coast of Anglesey, you’ll have lots of choice over how to spend your time from Llain Ffynnon Camping. A morning brew over the site's sea views? Taking the 15-minute walk down the closest beach for a quick dip in the sea? Or perhaps you’d rather go for a dog walk towards the mountains (after all, dogs are welcome here too). You’ll need a good pair of shoes, that’s for sure. One of the big perks of this site is that it’s easy to get to many places on foot. The local pub in Church Bay is only half an hour’s walk away. It’s also on the way to the rockpools at Porth Swtan beach (40 minutes’ walk) or the seafood restaurant and café close to the shore. You’ll get an idea of the splendid walks around these parts just from glancing at the views from this site. Based quite high up, Llain Ffynnon Camping doesn’t just have views over the northwest coast – you'll catch Snowdonia's mountains, Ireland, the Isle of Man and the northwest of England on a clear day too. The site is only a short walk from access points to several well-maintained public footpaths, including one with access to the Mynydd y Garn summit. If you need to pack some snacks and sandwiches before you go, there are two local food shops in Llanfaethlu or Tregele, 10 minutes’ drive from the site. Once you're back at base, make use of the hot shower and toilet facilities available to freshen up again.

What customers say

This hilltop campsite offers spectacular panoramic sea views and a relaxed, "wild camping" feel. Visitors consistently praise the friendly and helpful owners, the spaciousness allowing free pitch choice, and the immaculately clean facilities. While basic, the toilets and washing-up areas are well-maintained. Cold showers are standard, though hot ones are occasionally available. Expect wind due to the exposed location. It's ideal for those seeking peace, nature, and stunning vistas.

Disliked Lovely facilities - very clean and staff are very attentive. However, there are only 3 toilets and 2 showers, so there is often a queue.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked What an amazing place. With 270 degree views of the sea this campsite is lovely.
Church bay is beautiful too and about 30 min walk away.
Couldn’t recommend more.
Toilets/showers are lovely.
We went to the Relish Cafe around a 20 min drive away but other friends went to the campsite food van in church bay for breakfast both highly recommended.
The lady at the lobster restaurant was really rude so wouldn’t recommend going there for food.
If you go to church bay for the day I advise going to the shops before as there is no shop and the watercress cafe is a bit expensive for drinks.

Local attractions

You might first spot the Goleudŷ Ynysoedd y Moelrhoniaid (The Skerries Lighthouse) from the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path. Up close, after a chartered boat ride from Holyhead (25 minutes’ drive), the view is even better, and the birdwatching just as splendid. The seabird colony at Cemlyn North Wales Wildlife Trust Reserve (10 minutes’ drive) is pretty spectacular to watch too. A shingle ridge, lagoon and plants such as sea kale and sea campion are part of the highlight reel at this place – just the thing if you're a fan of spying on wildlife. Those of you who are planning on spending a lot of your downtime beside the sea will be happy to find that there are a number of beaches that are easy to get to from Llain Ffynnon Camping. In fact, the National Trust’s Traeth Ynys y Fydlyn is half an hour’s walk away, and there are caves and rockpools to rummage around down there. Further out, other gorgeous beach locations include Cemlyn Bay (15 minutes’ drive), Porth Trwyn (10 minutes) and Traeth Porth Wen Beach (15 minutes).
