  • Well-maintained site in quiet Lanarkshire countryside near Cumbernauld
  • A 20-minute drive to Glasgow’s attractions; half an hour to Stirling
  • Dog-friendly site with play park, woodland walks and fairy wood
A rural site surrounded by fields in the Lanarkshire countryside, Eden Leisure Village is a smashing choice if you like a bit of city action mixed in with your rural escape. Glasgow is only a 20-minute drive away from here, and it’s a great base for families who want to explore central Scotland too, as Stirling and Edinburgh both have plenty of historic sights and are easily accessed via the M80 and M9 motorways. But you don’t have to stray too far away from the site, as there’s masses to do locally too. As well as being the place to source bits and pieces for barbecue meals in the supermarkets, Cumbernauld (10 minutes) also has a raft of takeaways – from fish and chips to Chinese – if you’d rather have a change of flavour some nights. The town is also something of a gateway to nature walks and treetop rope courses in Palacerigg Country Park, and kids can wear themselves out with archery lessons and paintball battles at Cumbernauld Outdoor Activity Centre. Make sure they save some energy for time back at the site though – they're bound to want to spend time at the play park and explore the fairy wood. No need for dogs to miss out either, as there’s a special area where they can have a run around too. Other well-maintained amenities include chemical toilet disposal, a shower and loo block and baby-changing facilities. There are electric and water hook-up points too, plus over a mile of woodland and meadow walks just waiting for you and the family to explore.

Liked: Our very first night in a MotorHome and Eden village was quiet so we were able to work things out without "experts" looking on. Eden Village is tucked away and was quiet but I guess it was early in the season. Offered everything we needed, and would happily return.

Disliked: Nothing

Liked: Toilets were all very clean and tidy. We arrived late (8pm) having mentioned this while booking the site was very accommodating. We got given our pitch number with excellent directions in and arrived brilliantly. We didn’t even have to go to reception through the stay which made it easy for our short break while we was very busy. Pitch layout took a bit of working out in the pitch black but we got there! :)

Hobbit Hut camping pod (no pets)

Liked: Great place and great walks also great facilities like kitchen, very clean toilets and a nice and friendly staff.

Disliked: I bit too expensive especially you cannot bring your own logs and only option is to buy them on site. That wouldn’t be the worst however when office was closed there were no logs available and we had to phone an emergency number to get more logs. That’s not the ideal for relaxing evening. For that kind of the money you can easily book a lovely weekend break in Spain. WIFI not the best.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review—we’re so pleased to hear you enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, great walks, and our clean facilities. Our team always strives to provide a warm and welcoming experience, so it’s lovely to know that stood out to you.

We appreciate your feedback on the log availability. While we do have logs for sale on-site to ensure they are suitable for our fire pits, we understand that it wasn’t ideal having to call the emergency number. We’ll take this into account as we look at ways to improve guest convenience.

Regarding pricing, we aim to provide a unique and immersive stay in nature, and we feel our facilities, setting, and overall experience reflect this. That said, we appreciate your perspective and will continue to review our offerings to ensure they provide great value.

As for the WiFi, given our rural location, open reach hasn’t yet given us fibre. We believe it’s nearly there. We will then be able to offer WiFi in the communal area.

Thanks again for visiting Eden.

Disliked: The £30 charge for 3 family members to visit us in our own motorhome
They were with us for approx 2 hrs didnt use any Edens facilities
We only stayed there to see family
Will Not be back

From the manager: That’s a shame. We see from our records you have stayed twice with no complaints before and we felt this time that it was time to explain nicely that there is a cost for visitors even although it is very clear to the customer there is a cost.

There were 4 cars and the motorhome all parked with no regard to other pitches. We charge for extra cars actually too for those who have brought on a motor home; we usually charge £5 for an extra car too for staying customers. It is very clear on our booking texts that we charge for visitors coming on (not staying) to visit. We have had to put a time on the stay so that customers don’t abuse the system. If visitors stay for up to 4 hours it is £10 per person and if visitors stay for up to 8 hours it is £20 per person. The facilities we have are quality, well looked after and if parking, staying for a bit, using the facilities and enjoying Eden then there is a cost to this.

The 3 people all came in different cars just to be clear too. We didn’t charge you for one of the days either. We know that cars were coming and going on the Thursday as well as the Friday. We charged for one of those days.

We are actually sad about the situation but feel justified and relieved that you wouldn’t come back. We never want customers staying and disregarding our site rules.

We haven’t mentioned the fact that we actually need to know who is present on our site as a matter of health and safety. All customers have a note of our out of hours numbers to contact us when reception is closed.

We also, if we were made aware of the visitors, would have asked the cars to be parked elsewhere.

With regret…

Local attractions

Glasgow (20 minutes’ drive) is home to cracking masterpieces in Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, where you can easily spend hours – and combine it with a visit to the exotic Burrell Collection (both 30 minutes) or hands-on Glasgow Science Centre (30 minutes). Edinburgh (an hour to the centre) offers a handsome castle, buzzing bars and busking in the Royal Mile, while Stirling (25 minutes) has a photogenic castle of its own, as well as the dramatic Wallace Monument (30 minutes). Closer to base camp, take the kids to see birds of prey flying at World of Wings (five minutes), and all the family can splash around in the pools at The Time Capsule (15 minutes). Save the soft-play centre at Adventure Planet (15 minutes) for a rainy day, and if that doesn’t tire everybody out, then try a visit to Footgolf Cumbernauld (five minutes). For outdoor adventures, jump in the car and head to the Trossachs National Park, criss-crossed with walking and cycling routes, or stop off at Luss on Loch Lomond (both an hour), for a high-speed boat cruise along the shoreline.
