A rural site surrounded by fields in the Lanarkshire countryside, Eden Leisure Village is a smashing choice if you like a bit of city action mixed in with your rural escape. Glasgow is only a 20-minute drive away from here, and it’s a great base for families who want to explore central Scotland too, as Stirling and Edinburgh both have plenty of historic sights and are easily accessed via the M80 and M9 motorways. But you don’t have to stray too far away from the site, as there’s masses to do locally too. As well as being the place to source bits and pieces for barbecue meals in the supermarkets, Cumbernauld (10 minutes) also has a raft of takeaways – from fish and chips to Chinese – if you’d rather have a change of flavour some nights. The town is also something of a gateway to nature walks and treetop rope courses in Palacerigg Country Park, and kids can wear themselves out with archery lessons and paintball battles at Cumbernauld Outdoor Activity Centre. Make sure they save some energy for time back at the site though – they're bound to want to spend time at the play park and explore the fairy wood. No need for dogs to miss out either, as there’s a special area where they can have a run around too. Other well-maintained amenities include chemical toilet disposal, a shower and loo block and baby-changing facilities. There are electric and water hook-up points too, plus over a mile of woodland and meadow walks just waiting for you and the family to explore.

Hobbit Hut camping pod (no pets)

Liked Great location and very peaceful. Fantastic facilities on site. Hobbit hut very clean and bedding comfy.

Disliked Needs a directional map to help direct visitors to avoid a very low bridge route to this site as you get lost trying to find this site especially when departing the M73 and getting lost in Cumbernauld

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We were surprised and disappointed to see an overall score of 6/10. You stayed in one of our basic glamping options, which is priced to offer good-value, simple accommodation.

We also have upgraded and luxury accommodation available for guests looking for a higher-spec experience. We pride ourselves on providing clean, well-maintained accommodation, quality facilities and beautiful surroundings, and we were very accommodating throughout your stay, including allowing additional use of our facilities around your departure time.

We therefore found the overall score surprising, particularly alongside your scores of 8/10 for cleanliness and 7/10 for location, value for money and customer service.

We do feel our basic accommodation offers very good value for what is provided, and the vast majority of our guests thoroughly enjoy their stays with us.

I would never recommend to a tourer, nor will I return. Expensive.

Liked Showers/toilet blocks were faultless, very clean, modern and comfortable.

I think if you were glamping it'd be gold standard, but half of the amenities were not accessible to tourers. For glampers there was a gorgeous log cabin with full fitted kitchen, dining and lounge areas.

There's a sauna/hot tub - if you can afford the extortionate price tag that comes with it (£15 per person for an hour).

Disliked Touring pitches were clearly an after thought, a very poor location and extremely difficult to access/turn into for a tourer. Camper vans might just about manage but it really isn't a place for touring vans as it's too tight and there's nowhere for a car to be parked if you want any outside space. The "grass" next to each pitch was just a strip of turf. Our pitch was basically on a cliff edge, very dangerous for little ones,particularly as there's an active construction site down the hill which has churned up the grass and broken slabs up top.

Fires/bbqs are prohibited next to pitches and restricted to a certain area, on slabs and in pits provided by them (this is due to fire risks we were told), but there was 1 to go between 6 vans so if someone else was cooking you were totally stuck. You can't use your own firewood/coal either, you have to purchase from site.

Play park consists only of a slide and one swing, yet there was ample space to extend this.

There's no laundry facilities.
