The Oaks Holiday Park: View from the site

General

  • Small family-run park five minutes' drive from Looe
  • Monkey sanctuary within walking distance; Eden Project 30 mins' drive
  • Stroll to neighbouring ponds for a walk or picnic

Bring binoculars, bring buckets and spades, bring barbecues… they’ll all come in mighty handy during a stay at The Oaks Holiday Park, a relaxed rural site five minutes’ drive from Looe.

Those binoculars are to help you get a closer look at the wildlife that often passes by this corner of Cornwall – sparrowhawks, kestrels and barn owls can often be spotted overhead, and kingfishers and dragonflies frequently flit about the neighbours’ ponds. Guests are welcome to take a wander down there for a stroll or a waterside picnic (but please make sure dogs are on leads and keep an eye on the kids to ensure all is safe at all times).

The bucket and spade are essential items for an outing to the beach – Looe has a fine sandy specimen to play on, and there are plenty of other options along the Cornish coast (or back over the border into Devon). Not in the mood for sands? This part of Cornwall’s stacked with stuff to do, including the Wild Futures monkey sanctuary a short walk away and the famed Eden Project half an hour by car.

And the barbecue? Well, clearly that’s for cooking up tasty dinners out in the fresh air – you’re most welcome to do so on site, and with luck you may be treated to one of the spectacular sunsets that often grace the sky around here. (The sunrises are also renowned to be equally pretty, if you’re into the early shift…)

The pod was just perfect for my friend and I to spend a few days exploring Cornwall. We had a very warm welcome at reception and loved the cream teas waiting for us in the pod. It was spotlessly clean and the place itself very quiet and beautiful.

Loved everything about this place. Excellent views and scenery. It's a small site so lovely and chilled which made for a truly relaxing holiday. Located just down the lane from the main road into Looe so it's easy to access all the tourist areas, making it perfect to explore Cornwall. Friendly and helpful staff. Loved the chickens roaming freely.

  • Bell tent (no pets)

  • Liked:

Our little bell tent was the perfect size and had everything that we could possibly want. The double bed was super comfy and the peace at night-time was something else! The little shed next to our tent meant that we could cook and make hot drinks whenever we liked. This little kitchen shed was for our tent only but both of the bell tents that they have on sight are both equipped with these kitchen sheds…such a wonderful idea! If you have never been camping before, then this is definitely the perfect starting point for you. Staying in one of these bell tents means that you’ll still be camping but you have a luxurious edge to it…e.g. an actual bed, futons, an electric heater, a fully kitted-out kitchen! Definitely the perfect way to spend a way in Cornwall!

    Disliked:

There wasn’t really anything to dislike about The Oaks Holiday Park…the only thing was having two toilet cubicles on-site, they could get a little bit busy at times and this could result in waiting a few minutes but this could and would happen on any camp site that you visited!

Local attractions

Start your stay with a wander around Looe, taking in the harbour and unusual banjo pier before settling on the sands for the day. The South West Coast Path runs through the town for folk in search of a ramble with a sea view, and the harbour’s full of boats to book for fishing trips to hook mackerel for the barbie, or to see what critters are swimming below.

If you’d like to see more underwater beasts, there are many in residence at Fowey Aquarium (40 minutes). For landlubbing creatures, it’s a leisurely 15-minute stroll to meet the monkeys at Wild Futures Sanctuary or a 25-minute drive to view an assortment of animals at Porfell Wildlife Park & Sanctuary.

The famed domes of the Eden Project (half an hour) are famed for a reason – a visit here makes a fab day out wandering among all manner of weird and wonderful plants from across the planet. Green-fingered folk might also like to check out the 200-acre Lost Gardens of Heligan (not actually lost, but off the B3273 50 minutes away).

Must see

  • National Marine Aquarium (20.4 kilometres)
  • Eden Project (24.7 kilometres)
