Border Forest Caravan Park: May 2012

General

  • Dog-friendly park with direct access to Kielder Forest and Pennine Way
  • A 15-minute drive from Otterburn and 25 to Jedburgh
  • Modern and well-kept amenities with free hot water

If you have a canine adventurer, prepare to bring them here. A barkingly high amount of woofsome walkies are available in the area surrounding Otterburn's dog-friendly Border Forest Caravan Park, for it has direct access from its bridge over the burn to the mighty Kielder Forest and the Pennine Way. Collar a stay here forthwith...

As you might reckon from this, its location and its amicable, quiet and family-friendly feel, Border Forest Caravan Park is a popular place for Northumberland stays. Its amenities are cleanly kept and include modern ladies' and gents' showers with free hot water, and toilets, washing-up facilities and a fridge in the park's centre. (It's worth noting that from time to time during the summer months pesky midges make an appearance so it's worth packing your repellents.)

As Border Forest is a quiet park, there's no shop or club on site, but a small supermarket is a short drive away. Local village Otterburn has a café, pubs, shops and a tourist information centre.

Please note

Tents are not accepted at this park.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Group bookings of 2 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Group bookings of 3 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The kitchen facilities are closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

This is a very quiet family-run park - there is no shop or club on site.

No single-sex parties or under-25s accepted via Pitchup.com.

The shower/toilet block at the top of the park (a three-minute walk from the touring pitches) is open all year round.

We had an amazing time at Border forest Holiday Park. The site is located within easy reach of the A68 and is accessed via a security barrier with key fob access. Ring the bell on arrival and the friendly owners are straight out to help you.

The touring pitches are at the end of the park, directly on the river with spectacular views of the surrounding forest. It is such a peaceful location with beautiful birds to watch and fantastic walks direct from the site. We had a lovely walk through the forest to Hindehope Linn waterfall. The site has a huge dedicated dog walk with access from the top and bottom of the field and loads of benches to sit and enjoy the surroundings.

If you are heading to Kielder castle, the site is about a 5 min drive away from the end of Forest Drive, which takes you directly to the castle and lake. Just be warned, it is a pretty bumpy ride but worth it for the views of the forest.

The site is in a very remote location making it such a peaceful holiday destination. Lots of lovely wildlife to enjoy and the dark night skies means some amazing star gazing opportunities. We saw some of the best shooting stars. Don't forget to pack a torch and watch where you step as there are cute little Frogs wandering about at night. We spotted one sleeping under our caravan tyre before we set off and managed to move it on, so please be careful.

Being in such a remote location made it so peaceful. There is a pub about 8 mins drive away and a shop about 15 mins up the road in otterburn if needed, but we didn't use either for our week away as we always plan what we need for our stay.

We used our own shower facilities so can't comment on them but the toilet and kitchen block near the touring pitches were spotlessly clean. Bins were emptied regularly too. We saw staff around on a golf cart at regular intervals throughout the day keeping on top of cleaning.

The owners are so friendly and helpful. I loved our chats about Boris and the local wildlife and molly our mini schnauzer loved being fussed over. We had a fantastic holiday and were so sad to leave. Thank you so much for such an enjoyable stay. We can't wait to come back.

All the facilities. Everything desperately needs modernising/upgrading, especially for the amount they charge to stay there! Pitches were too close together.

From the manager...

The ladies showers are dated but they work constant hot water and great pressure! Toilet block near pitches new 3 years ago ,kitchen this year.
We are supposed to help mitigate climate change by less consumption ,hence if it works don’t fix it.

Pitches have the regular 6 meters minimum apart.
Luckily our reviews are mostly excellent! Just an impossibility to please everyone!

Really liked the location. Facilities (WC/showers etc), whilst not in the first flush of youth, are clean and well maintained. Friendly and helpful owners. The site was ideal for our needs. The dark skies were amazing.
Our advice to other visitors is do your research on the site website and prep accordingly and you'll be rewarded with wonderful memories.
