  • Friendly, well-kept site at a North Norfolk family-run farm
  • A 10-minute drive to Blakeney or Wells-next-the-Sea
  • Sea view from site and access to footpaths; pub and café a mile away
Here’s a tempting spot for a North Norfolk holiday – The Tented Turnip is in the pretty village of Cockthorpe, a sweet spot that’s within easy reach of lots of the area’s main attractions but far enough away to make a peaceful place to stay. This friendly and well-kept site is part of a family-run working farm, so you’ll be surrounded by arable land and livestock to give you that chilled-out rural atmosphere. There’s a sea view from the site, too – and that gives you just a hint that this place makes an excellent base for exploring both countryside and coast. That exploration is best done on foot or by bike – there are lots of great paths and quiet lanes in the local area, taking you through fields and wildlife-filled salt marshes or along the coast for scenic and peaceful days out. And speaking of the coast, some of Norfolk’s top seaside spots are easy to get to from here: the seal-spotting hub of Blakeney is 10 minutes’ drive away, as is Wells-next-the-Sea with its colourful beach huts. The sweeping dunes of Holkham are about 20 minutes away and well worth a visit. Facilities on site have been kept pretty simple, with just portable toilets, a shower, chemical disposal, hand-washing facilities and a drinking water supply. Dogs and kids are welcome, and you’ll also be able to bring a barbecue if you like. The village of Stiffkey, a mile away, has a popular pub (with a great beer garden) and an independent shop/café for top-notch coffee and baked treats.

What customers say

A no-frills, back-to-basics campsite in a quiet rural spot, great for self-sufficient travellers. Expect large, flat fields with ample space. Facilities are basic (portaloos, water tap), with some new showers/washing-up areas. Peaceful and scenic, though some find it pricey for what's offered when busy. Handy for the North Norfolk coast.

Liked Returned for 2 night break Saturday until Monday following the same last week .
Very good value for money
Lovely hot showers
Owners work really hard to ensure everything up and running cleaning toilets and sorting rubbish and removing shower water
We did the circular walk which was very enjoyable as well as going to the Langham dome museum

Disliked Saturday pm very busy Lots of small tents pitching in between other tents and Campervans with very little space in between ! Definite fire risk !
As like last week Lots of dogs off of leads and owners not watching .
One couple had 4 dogs !! Even though it states 2 x dogs on information .Dogs mess along hedge near our Campervan which was annoying.
Again not fault of owners but lot of people using the 4 toilets and not reading instructions and leaving unflushed waste !!making them very smelly and off putting !!
Obviously on a weekend there is a lot of rubbish and bins over full !
As there is nobody actually checking who has paid for camping we did wonder if people had just walked in and set up camp !!

Liked Nice, quiet open space with view over fields. Not crowded, everyone was well-spaced out as you could choose your own spot. A couple of new showers and an outdoor sink for washing up were perfect. Pretty village and a lovely circular walk down to the coast goes right past the campsite.

Disliked Portaloos were a bit grim by the end of the weekend but were replaced on Monday.
No recycling options except for glass.

Liked 2 night relaxing chilled break /wild camping
Great open field with lovely views
Able to pitch anywhere
4x portable toilets
2 x showers
Washing up sink
Fresh water tap
Waste water tank
Was able to arrive in the morning
Friendly owner and mother who walked around site checking everything was ok
Lovely walks amongst lambs and wildlife .
Would definitely recommend and visit again

Disliked Unfortunately site was really busy on Saturday ,and on Sunday morning most campers departed .3 of the toilets were blocked with toilet rolls and lots of soiled paper on floors and were not very pleasant!!
These were the same when we left on Monday morning. The rubbish bin was also over filled with lots of bags of rubbish on ground. There were lots of dogs but none were on leads and some of the smaller ones were quite yappy.
