Here’s a tempting spot for a North Norfolk holiday – The Tented Turnip is in the pretty village of Cockthorpe, a sweet spot that’s within easy reach of lots of the area’s main attractions but far enough away to make a peaceful place to stay. This friendly and well-kept site is part of a family-run working farm, so you’ll be surrounded by arable land and livestock to give you that chilled-out rural atmosphere. There’s a sea view from the site, too – and that gives you just a hint that this place makes an excellent base for exploring both countryside and coast. That exploration is best done on foot or by bike – there are lots of great paths and quiet lanes in the local area, taking you through fields and wildlife-filled salt marshes or along the coast for scenic and peaceful days out. And speaking of the coast, some of Norfolk’s top seaside spots are easy to get to from here: the seal-spotting hub of Blakeney is 10 minutes’ drive away, as is Wells-next-the-Sea with its colourful beach huts. The sweeping dunes of Holkham are about 20 minutes away and well worth a visit. Facilities on site have been kept pretty simple, with just portable toilets, a couple of showers, chemical disposal, hand-washing facilities and a drinking water supply. Dogs and kids are welcome, and you’ll also be able to bring a barbecue if you like. The village of Stiffkey, a mile away, has a popular pub (with a great beer garden) and an independent shop/café for top-notch coffee and baked treats.

Dit is een eenvoudige, basic camping op een rustige landelijke locatie. Ideaal voor wie rust zoekt en zelfredzaam is. Gasten waarderen de ruime plekken, mooie uitzichten en nabijheid van kustwandelingen. Nieuwe, schone douches en afwasplekken zijn toegevoegd. Ik was blij met Stayed in September. Loads of space. Basic but perfectly decent facilities. We were allowed to leave our tent on the site (unoccupied) for one extra day without charge so we could pack it up when it was dry as the day we were supposed to leave was very wet!

Ik was blij met Really enjoyed staying here as a cycled around Norfolk. A very quiet site, which is exactly what I wanted. Showers, toilets & water, peace & quiet, dark skies. Very clean facilities. Would look forward to staying here again and would recommend.

Ik was blij met We were looking for a quiet and semi wild experience, it didn't disappoint. I you want a full campsite experience with onsite personnel etc etc, then look else where are pay treble. For us the well maintained field and quiet location was idilic.

Ik was blij met Keep doing what you’re doing guys. A lovely quiet place to relax if you like to step away from the standard busy campsites.

Ik was niet blij met From the other side of the field, I thought your showers were actually a shepherds hut that was a paid extra. So I spent two days without showering and didn’t know there was a tap on the other side of the field. It may be helpful to add this into your text advice in your little entrance hut.

Ik was blij met Absolutely brilliant site.

Quiet, peaceful and relaxing.
It's on a gentle slope, but nothing really unacceptable. We didn't even need to use levelling ramps as we were parked towards the hedge.

Facilities are basic, clean and in good order.
But really, what more does anyone need other than the basic needs for a relaxing holiday.

It's not far from Stiffkey for the marshes, and the Red Lion pub, (there is a small shop/post office in Stiffkey) or Wells for shops, post office, takeaways, pubs and beaches

There's lots of good walks in this area and loads of history, ranging from the iron age fort through to WW2 museum at Langham.

The black/waste water tank at the bottom of the site could be signed a little clearer for some, but having experienced that type of septic tank before I knew what it was as soon as I saw it.

It's definitely a site to mark on our map for future use (I've already told a few friends about it)

Don’t fancy travelling far for an outing? You don’t need to – there are several options within a short drive, including the Langham Dome military museum (two minutes’ drive), English Heritage’s Binham Priory (five minutes) and the lovely Hindringham Hall Gardens (10 minutes) with its walled veg garden, bog garden and medieval fish ponds. The coast isn’t far off either, so get set for seal-spotting trips from Blakeney (10 minutes) or some time spent strolling on the sandy beach, crabbing and admiring the colourful beach huts in Wells-next-the-Sea (10 minutes). From there you can also ride the narrow-gauge heritage trains of the Wells & Walsingham Light Railway to reach the pilgrimage destination of Walsingham Abbey (15 minutes if you’d rather drive). A little further along the coast, Holkham (20 minutes) is an excellent spot for a day out – explore the Palladian-style stately home and go rowing on the lake before walking or cycling through the parkland down to the sweeping sandy beach.
