  • Family-friendly site two miles from Mundesley beach, with dogs welcome
  • A 15-minute drive from Cromer and half an hour to Wroxham Broad
  • Under 10 minutes’ walk from a village pub and playing field
Nosing around for a north Norfolk break that is well-based for countryside walks, crabbing, cruising The Broads and chilling at the beach? Try Meadow View Camping and Caravan Site, a family-friendly site on the coast just two miles from Mundesley. To be precise, it’s just a 40-minute walk (or a five-minute drive) from its beach and Victorian seafront, where there are beach huts. The site is in a peaceful Norfolk village called Trunch. You might be quite familiar with the place by the end of your stay – and happily so – because it has a social club hosting live music and two beer festivals per year, as well as a welcoming pub with fodder, beer, good music and other events. As if that isn't enough already, the village also has countryside walks, a playing field and a 15th-century church. No need to leave furry family members behind at Meadow View Camping and Caravan Site, as it's dog-friendly. Barbecues and firepits are also both welcome (just note that only firepits hired from Meadow View are permitted). You should have plenty of good tales for the firepit, with there being so many beaches nearby: Trimingham (10 minutes’ drive), Cromer (15 minutes) and Sheringham (25 minutes), for example. Walcott beach, 10 minutes' drive away, is a fine choice, with a café, ice cream parlour, fish and chips shop and a post office with a shop all along the seafront. In Mundesley, there are pubs, restaurants, cafés, takeaways, another social club, arcades, miniature golf, a petrol station and a supermarket – very handy indeed. Just remember that this is a rural location next to a working farm, so there are likely to be country smells and sounds at times.

What customers say

Spacious, peaceful spot with stunning views. Friendly owners, spotless facilities & relaxing vibe. Great for coast trips, near pub/village. Some wanted more showers/sinks during busy periods. Fire pit hire a hit.

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked We have just come back from a 2 night stay (2 adults and 2 young kids). We honestly could not fault it. Loads of space, toilets and showers were very clean and even though its by the road and a working farm, it was surprisingly quiet. Christine was an absolute saint when our car wouldnt start for our journey home and couldnt havent been more helpful and accommodating. Amazing hosts and we will definitely be back.

Disliked Nothing to dislike we just wish we could have stayed longer!

Liked Toilets and showers were clean with hot water. Very basic site with electric pitches in a beautiful setting. Great fire pits reasonably priced logs and marshmallows. Christine was an impeccable host and happy to assist with any queries. We will be back!

Disliked The only thing I would have preferred a closed site as the main gate stays open.

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked There were wonderful view of the neighbouring fields, which were lovely to wake up to in the morning and see at night.
A flat campsite which made sleeping a lot nice.
Facilities (toilets, showers, sink) were kept clean throughout our stay, seemed fairly modern and we're all indoors.
Showers were warm and easy to use - which we appreciated after using nearby beaches.
Roads provided easy access to nearby beaches, towns and cities.
Staff were friendly and answered any and all questions.

Disliked There could be more facilities available (I.e. there only being 1 sink), which could lead to queues at busy times.
Unfortunately we weren't able to have a fire due to the drought, although this changed on our final night, despite there being little change in the weather.

Liked Really enjoyed our stay here. Our 2 young boys had a blast! Owners were really welcoming and helpful. Facilities were all clean and well kept, loved the firepit idea with the marshmallows. The open field in the middle was brilliant for kids to make friends, play games etc. I really like the fact that the site isnt over crowded, there is plenty of room for more pitches but keeping it small keeps the atmosphere more cosy. Most other campers were really friendly and were following the rules with their dogs.

Disliked Only down side for us was a few other campers letting their dogs run around off lead and unsettling our reactive dogs a couple of times. Rules were very clear about all dogs being on leads. It's a shame a few people couldn't follow the rules. Over all, we loved our stay and will definitely be back :)

Local attractions

When it comes to getting stuck into the north Norfolk coast, you might want to get a tick list going…there’s Overstrand beach and Walcott beach to see and crabbing on the pier in Cromer (all within 15 minutes' drive). Keep ticking them off: the lighthouse in Happisburgh (20 minutes), seal spotting at Blakeney Point (40 minutes) and Waxham (35 minutes) or sandy beaches at Sea Palling (half an hour) and Wells-next-the-Sea (55 minutes). The latter has a gorgeous fishing port running seal-watching trips. Inland’s just as excellent. There’s a generous handful of National Trust properties within driving distance, plus ways to get out onto The Broads in Wroxham (half an hour). You might want to board the Bure Valley Railway there or join The North Norfolk Steam Railway in Sheringham (25 minutes). For all you budding historians, Weybourne (half an hour) has the Muckleburgh Military Collection too. Family-friendly ventures are easily sourced, with various entertainments in North Walsham (10 minutes), treetop adventures at BeWILDerwood Norfolk (half an hour) and all the attractions in Great Yarmouth (50 minutes) like Pleasure Beach, Britannia Pier and Sea Life Great Yarmouth.
