  • Family-friendly site two miles from Mundesley beach, with dogs welcome
  • A 15-minute drive from Cromer and half an hour to Wroxham Broad
  • Under 10 minutes’ walk from a village pub and playing field
Nosing around for a north Norfolk break that is well-based for countryside walks, crabbing, cruising The Broads and chilling at the beach? Try Meadow View Camping and Caravan Site, a family-friendly site on the coast just two miles from Mundesley. To be precise, it’s just a 40-minute walk (or a five-minute drive) from its beach and Victorian seafront, where there are beach huts. The site is in a peaceful Norfolk village called Trunch. You might be quite familiar with the place by the end of your stay – and happily so – because it has a social club hosting live music and two beer festivals per year, as well as a welcoming pub with fodder, beer, good music and other events. As if that isn't enough already, the village also has countryside walks, a playing field and a 15th-century church. No need to leave furry family members behind at Meadow View Camping and Caravan Site, as it's dog-friendly. Barbecues and firepits are also both welcome (just note that only firepits hired from Meadow View are permitted). You should have plenty of good tales for the firepit, with there being so many beaches nearby: Trimingham (10 minutes’ drive), Cromer (15 minutes) and Sheringham (25 minutes), for example. Walcott beach, 10 minutes' drive away, is a fine choice, with a café, ice cream parlour, fish and chips shop and a post office with a shop all along the seafront. In Mundesley, there are pubs, restaurants, cafés, takeaways, another social club, arcades, miniature golf, a petrol station and a supermarket – very handy indeed. Just remember that this is a rural location next to a working farm, so there are likely to be country smells and sounds at times.

What customers say

A chill, roomy, and tidy spot with big, flat campsites. Guests loved the welcoming, helpful owners, clean facilities, and top spot near beaches and towns. Hiring fire pits was a bonus. Some found facilities a bit busy at peak times.

Powered grass site

Liked Beautiful field, with lots of space
Friendly hosts
Clean toilets and showers
Respectful neighbours

Disliked The fire pit was £15 and we stayed only 1 night, seemed a little steep. But other than that, it was perfect.

From the manager: We ONLY allow Firepits Hired from ourselves and this is an optional extra.
The cost is £15 for the duration of your stay, albeit it 1 night or 7, and includes a bag of wood and firelighters (a bag of wood usually lasts an evening depending on usage). They are delivered and collected from your pitch.

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked Lovely open field, relaxed & quiet atmosphere, facilities were good, friendly welcome from owners, fire pit rentals & marshmallows were a nice touch. Also really handy having a freezer available for ice blocks! We enjoyed our stay.

Disliked Showers got a bit dirty due to being limited in number & the amount of use they receive, but this was a small point which could be navigated & wouldn’t put us off staying again.

Local attractions

When it comes to getting stuck into the north Norfolk coast, you might want to get a tick list going…there’s Overstrand beach and Walcott beach to see and crabbing on the pier in Cromer (all within 15 minutes' drive). Keep ticking them off: the lighthouse in Happisburgh (20 minutes), seal spotting at Blakeney Point (40 minutes) and Waxham (35 minutes) or sandy beaches at Sea Palling (half an hour) and Wells-next-the-Sea (55 minutes). The latter has a gorgeous fishing port running seal-watching trips. Inland’s just as excellent. For all you budding historians, Weybourne (half an hour) has the Muckleburgh Military Collection too. Family-friendly ventures are easily sourced, with various entertainments in North Walsham (10 minutes), treetop adventures at BeWILDerwood Norfolk (half an hour) and all the attractions in Great Yarmouth (50 minutes) like Pleasure Beach, Britannia Pier and Sea Life Great Yarmouth.
