Camping field in use - early may

  • Family-run Oxfordshire site at a smallholding with art studios
  • Didcot and Wantage 10 minutes' drive; half an hour to Oxford
  • On the edge of the North Wessex Downs, with great walks nearby
We are a family run three acre smallholding hosting an Arts Studio running pottery classes and workshops. We have a level, grass covered paddock that is ideal for camping. It is served by a purpose-built toilet block with two toilets, one shower, a wash-room and a kitchenette. We are 3.5 miles from the Ridgeway - an ancient track that, to the West goes past the White Horse at Uffington and to the East links up with the Thames Path near Goring. The Ickneild Way - like the Ridgeway an ancient long distance track - has recently been resurfaced between East Hendred and Lockinge to provide an excellent cycle path from East Hendred to Wantage. Wantage is an historic market town and the birthplace of King Alfred the Great. It is the nearest town for a good selection of shops, supermarkets and a weekly open air market in the town square. Reachable by car and bicycle (and in some cases by foot) are some excellent places to eat and drink. Steventon is easily achieved by foot or bike, while the Hendreds, Ardington and Letcombe Regis are further afield.

Unpowered grass motorhome site

Liked: Very clean level site
All facilities had sensor lights
All facilities were kept very clean and nice hot water.
A small kitchen room with door for washing up which also had microwave and fridge with freezer for ice blocks.
Shower was very roomy with a still and hooks to put clothes to keep dry.
Shower lovely and hot. Was push button but was long enough to wet down then soap up and another push plenty to rinse off and a handy basket on shower so no having a bend over to grab your toiletries. There is also a separate wash room for teeth cleaning or personal washing this also has usb charging points to charge your devices.
Reception was in a hut. Which has a table and two stools if you wanted to sit in the dry if you were camping. This also have an array of treats to buy and a very good coffee machine and tea making facilities and sink. They was a price list and honesty box including a card machine to pay by card. Fresh chicken eggs from their chickens.
There were bins and ash cans for bbq coal waste a sink for fresh water. Grey waste with hose.
Such a great site. Wonderful owners who also run a pottery studio on site separate to campsite.
I can’t comment on wifi as didn’t use it.

Disliked: I couldn’t find any faults just a little road noise but not enough to keep you awake.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: I had an absolutely wonderful stay at this beautifully maintained and thoughtfully run campsite. From the moment I arrived, it was clear that every little detail had been considered to make the experience easy, welcoming, and comfortable.

The facilities were spotless — honestly some of the cleanest I’ve ever encountered. The toilets, shower room, washroom, and kitchenette were not only sparkling clean but also well-equipped and clearly cared for with pride.

The honesty box system was such a lovely touch — stocked with thoughtful goodies like tea, coffee, biscuits, and other small comforts that make a big difference. It really added a warm, personal feel to the place.

My pitch was spacious and peaceful, perfect for my four-man tent, with plenty of room to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Waking up to birds singing among the silver birch trees was a real highlight — a tranquil and restorative experience.

Everything was so well organised without feeling overly structured. It struck the perfect balance between convenience and charm.

I’ll absolutely be staying here again — and recommending it to friends looking for a peaceful, beautifully run escape in nature.
