Off to Oxfordshire for fresh air, bike rides, rural walks and… a bit of pottery? Muster Point Campsite is part of a family-run three-acre smallholding that’s also home to an arts studio running pottery classes and art workshops. That makes this a particularly handy place to stay if you’re signing up for one of the courses or workshops at Oxfordshire Arts – but you don’t have to be arty in the slightest to appreciate a stay here. It’s also an excellent location for those seeking out walks and bike rides – it’s just on the edge of the North Wessex Downs National Landscape and both the Icknield Way and Ridgeway are close by for long-distance outings or shorter stints. Equally easy are outings to Oxford, which is about half an hour away by car (and best approached by using one of the Park & Ride services). Closer by are Wantage (the birthplace of King Alfred the Great) and Didcot (home of the Didcot Railway Centre) – both are about 10 minutes’ drive away and have a good collection of shops and places to eat, with an open-air market in Wantage too. Or maybe you’re after a country pub? There are plenty of those around too – you can walk or bike to Steventon or get in the car for Hendreds, Ardington and Letcombe Regis. Or perhaps an alfresco meal back on site? You’ll be allowed to bring a barbecue along, and there’s a great farm shop less than a mile away for fresh produce (and pick-your-own fruit in summer). Facilities in the camping paddock stretch to a kitchenette, a washing-up area and a purpose-built toilet block with a shower and two toilets.

喜欢 Site nice and easy to find. Peter is an absolute gent. Warm welcome at Reception. Explained how everything works and took us round the facilities. Allowed us to choose a pitch. Spotless and well maintained. Honesty pod selling delicious goodies either card or cash. 2 toilets. Large shower. Great kitchenette with a microwave which was a godsend. Cannot fault the place. Peaceful, quality, secure. Good value for money. Used Redbridge P&R to go into Oxford. Great value at £2.70 return. 17 mins drive from the site. 20 minute drive to White Horse Hill (free parking for NT members). Cannot recommend highly enough.

喜欢 Owner was very welcoming, she gave up a tour of the site and we then got to choose our pitch. Facilities were spotless. Shower was hot. Need to remember my own hairdryer as plugs available.
Site was quiet with lovely big playing field adjacent to camping field

喜欢 Lovely flat pitches in a nice location, fantastic facilities with some great exta touches like a communal fridge and microwave (a god send for our little fussy eater) The honestly shop is also a brilliant idea with really reasonable pices for chilled drinks, ice lollies and cereal. Great stay and will definitely be returning

喜欢 A lovely little spot, with only a limited number of pitches, meaning that it wasn’t overrun with loads of people.

The small on-site shop was extremely appreciated - especially being able to buy cold drinks and fresh eggs.

The facilities were clean and well-kept. We were here as the May temperatures soared to their highest on record, so being able to sit in the shade of trees was very welcome.

Sadly, we were only there for one night this time, but will definitely add this as a regular campsite when that direction again, so that we can explore more.

喜欢 An intimate friendly site in a beautiful part of the world! We enjoyed a really friendly welcome and loved the honesty shop for coffees and ice cream after our camp supper. The facilities (shower, washroom and loos plus the small shared kitchen) were clean and provided everything that we needed in conjunction with our camper van.

Lots of great cycle routes close by through chocolate box villages and purpose made off road cycle tracks like The Ridgeway and Icknield Greenway. Wantage is very pretty and useful for supplies.

不喜欢 The "idiot" drivers on some of the local roads which made one question safety a little bit - either for walking or cycling.

喜欢 This was a beautifully maintained campsite with a fantastic honesty shop that had everything we needed. The pitches were flat and of a good size. Toilet and shower block was well maintained and regularly cleaned.

The owner was really friendly and helpful

不喜欢 The only drawback was the proximity to the main road and the volume (and noise) of traffic at night. This is easily reduced with a pair of earplugs though.

Bring your bikes or boots – it’s about 3.5 miles to the Ridgeway, an ancient track that takes you towards the White Horse at Uffington, and you can pick up the similarly ancient Icknield Way close by too (pick it up a mile away in East Hendred for a good bike ride into Wantage on a recently resurfaced path). There are lots more trails to follow too, but if you’d like something different from your rural experience, perhaps take the kids to Millets Farm Centre (15 minutes’ drive) to meet cute animals, hire a boat in Abingdon (20 minutes) to pootle along the Thames or climb high into the trees at High Ropes Oxford (20 minutes). For other days out, the Didcot Railway Centre (15 minutes) is often a hit with train enthusiasts of all ages, and a trip into Oxford (half an hour) to see the historic colleges and try your hand at punting is a great choice too.
