Homestead Fields Caravan and Camping: Spacious pitches

General

  • Peaceful site in Benniworth village, 15 minutes' drive from Louth
  • A 40-minute drive from the beaches at Skegness and Mablethorpe
  • Two-acre smallholding with resident alpacas, pigs and chickens

Looking for a peaceful base for Lincolnshire larks? Homestead Fields Caravan and Camping, in the village of Benniworth, is a quiet smallholding site that should fit the bill.

Country, coast and town trips are all easily sorted here – this two-acre park is on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with some top walks and bike rides to be had pretty much as soon as you set foot outside the park. The east coast seaside resorts of Skegness, Ingoldmells and Mablethorpe, meanwhile, are all around 40 minutes' drive away. The genteel Georgian market town of Louth is also close by (15 minutes), while the grand old city of Lincoln is about half an hour away.

If you’ve still got energy left after that little lot, stroll along to the local pub in 40 minutes or so for dinner (if you're hungry, drive it in five instead). Rather spend some time on site? Stick around to light up a barbecue and make pals with some of the site's resident alpacas, chickens and pigs.

Dogs are welcome to join you on your jaunt here – there’s a dog walking area where they can stretch their paws, as well as a free wifi connection for folk who’d like to catch up with the outside world while their pup investigates the sights and smells of their new surrounds.

Just everything! Super hosts Dean and Alison. Spotless site throughout and beautifully maintained. We found Lots of little touches that show the owners care for their site for example, the dog walk, picnic benches, wash up area clean with bedding plants and pots to brighten up the area. Some may think and...but for us, these little touches do make a difference. We've already recommended to friends and will be back without a doubt. Thank you Dean and Alison for a super few days.

We were here for 2 nights over the Easter weekend and it was lovely. The site is kept immaculately and our hardstanding pitch (no 2) was excellent, level had EHU and water. Very good TV and WIFI signal. Dog walk from site, around the field with great views was an added bonus.

We had an absolutely lovely time here! We’ve spent 3 days and it’s been bliss. The kids have been happy playing in the fields and we had time to sit back and relax. The toilet block was really clean and plenty of bins available. Good phone and TV reception. Free Wi-Fi available. Good dog walk route around the field next to the pitches as well.

The kids loved seeing the alpacas and it was quite nice to wake up and see them all inquisitive next the caravan in the mornings. The owners even surprised the kids on Easter Sunday with some Easter eggs, which was a really thoughtful gesture 😊 🐣

We spent a day out at Mablethorpe which was only 40 mins away so not too far either really.

All in all I would highly recommend this site to my friends and family as a little escape in the Lincolnshire wolds 🥰

Pitch was level, and close to toilet block (no shower). We were the only guests so very quiet. TV and radio reception brilliant.

    Disliked:

The host left us in peace (good), but we had to leave the money owed in the toilet block. Maybe a postbox would be a better idea?

Use the postcode LN8 6JH for satnav directions. Once you've come off the B1225, travel for another 400 yards and look out for the site entrance on the left, just before a long walled barn (don't go down Meadow Lane, as it's a dead end). Please call the mobile number provided if you get lost.

Local attractions

Wanders around the Wolds start at the site gate. Hiking across the flat landscape should be pretty easy for most walkers: strolls up from Benniworth to Donington or Bain along the old railway line are highly recommended. For walks around a man-made landscape instead, head down to Walled Garden Baumber (10 minutes' drive), a kooky plant haven where green-fingered guests can also treat themselves to a cream tea.

Top towns in the local area include Louth (15 minutes) with its Georgian architecture and Spout Yard park, and Horncastle (15 minutes) for bargain-hunting on the high street's many antique shops. Lincoln (30 minutes) is another must-see stop on any trip here: head to the castle for medieval history or climb up to the cathedral's viewing gallery and admire the cityscape below.

For kid-pleasing days, try the cute animals at Rand Farm Park (15 minutes) or the bigger beasts on display at Woodside Wildlife Park (20 minutes). Family-friendly beach time can also be arranged – head to Mablethorpe or Skegness (both 40 minutes) if you want to feel the sand between your toes.

Must see

  • Lincoln Cathedral (25.0 kilometres)
  • Lincoln Medieval Bishops' Palace (25.1 kilometres)
  • Lincoln Castle (25.1 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Tattershall Castle (24.5 kilometres)
  • Gunby Hall Estate: Monksthorpe Chapel (29.2 kilometres)
