Homestead Fields Caravan and Camping: Spacious pitches

General

  • Peaceful site in Benniworth village, 15 minutes' drive from Louth
  • A 40-minute drive from the beaches at Skegness and Mablethorpe
  • Two-acre smallholding with resident alpacas, pigs and chickens

Looking for a peaceful base for Lincolnshire larks? Homestead Fields Caravan and Camping, in the village of Benniworth, is a quiet smallholding site that should fit the bill.

Country, coast and town trips are all easily sorted here – this two-acre park is on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with some top walks and bike rides to be had pretty much as soon as you set foot outside the park. The east coast seaside resorts of Skegness, Ingoldmells and Mablethorpe, meanwhile, are all around 40 minutes' drive away. The genteel Georgian market town of Louth is also close by (15 minutes), while the grand old city of Lincoln is about half an hour away.

If you’ve still got energy left after that little lot, stroll along to the local pub in 40 minutes or so for dinner (if you're hungry, drive it in five instead). Rather spend some time on site? Stick around to light up a barbecue and make pals with some of the site's resident alpacas, chickens and pigs.

Dogs are welcome to join you on your jaunt here – there’s a dog walking area where they can stretch their paws, as well as a free wifi connection for folk who’d like to catch up with the outside world while their pup investigates the sights and smells of their new surrounds.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the on-site accommodations.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

Looking for a peaceful base, a quiet 2 acre park close to AONB and amongst working farms then this is ideal. Slumber to the tranquility of the night with loud farm equipment cutting crops and revving tractors collecting and building bale towers. You're encouraged to make pals with resident alpacas- that might bite, feed an overweight pig apples or spot roaming chickens and if you're lucky enough the owner will inform you of his protective rottweilers you will encounter for trespassing unsupervised in the paddock, doing the above.
Make sure to read the "important notice".
Embrace being back to nature with the numerous species of spider found around and inside the toilet block also, enjoy the countryside view through the inadequately covered privacy window.
Facilities are cleaned daily but be prepared to find bodily fluids on the floor-a mop is provided, the toilet unfleshed or no paper/blue roll to use. Too many users for facilities available with constructive reviews disregarded by the owner.
Just light a fire pit, turn up the radio sit back and relax with a beer as there is plenty of space for the children to play their games around the park all hours, as long as the other campers don't mind sharing their pitch, guy ropes being jumped over or flashes of torchlight during hide and seek in the dark.
Waking up at dawn to the serenading birdsong and multiple car door slamming is a delightful treat.
If however this compact family park is not offering what you are looking for then take the owners advice and "book an adults only site but they don't take children"!.

    Disliked:

Issues raised were dealt via text not face to face.
Complaints were treated with the same generic response.
Toilet block not cleaned enough during busy periods, and not sufficient for a full campsite.
Too many children accepted under the age of 10 yrs and allowed to play around other campers property.
No designated area for children to play safely.
Not enough warning, advisory or safety notices around the camp area.
No security measures in place, left at own risk.

The fact that the owner did not come great us. Just sent a text message saying pitch 6 was ours. And the next text message was to get the payment sent to his bank account and not another word from him the whole 4 nights.

Size of the site / location and the first four days.

    Disliked:

When we returned to the site after a day out we returned to find the site full of tents, some had two to three cars each, children running everywhere with one throwing stones, most of them were not being controlled by their parents. The site wash rooms / WC's were kept lovely and clean before their arrival but after all the toilet paper and hand towels were used the same day and water and dirt all over the floors.
What started off as a lovely peaceful stay ended up being ruined and were very close to leaving early.
Fortunately their stay was for only two days and we had a peaceful last day before packing to leave.
    We will not be returning.

From the manager...

Gave them directions to the site reserved quite pitch in selerate field hardstanding and was told in the big field that the camp site is full of tents for the weekend so they decide to go in big field? Its a family site sound like you should of gone adults only site

Directions

Use the postcode LN8 6JH for satnav directions. Once you've come off the B1225, travel for another 400 yards and look out for the site entrance on the left, just before a long walled barn (don't go down Meadow Lane, as it's a dead end). Please call the mobile number provided if you get lost.

Local attractions

Wanders around the Wolds start at the site gate. Hiking across the flat landscape should be pretty easy for most walkers: strolls up from Benniworth to Donington or Bain along the old railway line are highly recommended. For walks around a man-made landscape instead, head down to Walled Garden Baumber (10 minutes' drive), a kooky plant haven where green-fingered guests can also treat themselves to a cream tea.

Top towns in the local area include Louth (15 minutes) with its Georgian architecture and Spout Yard park, and Horncastle (15 minutes) for bargain-hunting on the high street's many antique shops. Lincoln (30 minutes) is another must-see stop on any trip here: head to the castle for medieval history or climb up to the cathedral's viewing gallery and admire the cityscape below.

For kid-pleasing days, try the cute animals at Rand Farm Park (15 minutes) or the bigger beasts on display at Woodside Wildlife Park (20 minutes). Family-friendly beach time can also be arranged – head to Mablethorpe or Skegness (both 40 minutes) if you want to feel the sand between your toes.

Must see

  • Lincoln Cathedral (25.0 kilometres)
  • Lincoln Medieval Bishops' Palace (25.1 kilometres)
  • Lincoln Castle (25.1 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Tattershall Castle (24.5 kilometres)
  • Gunby Hall Estate: Monksthorpe Chapel (29.2 kilometres)
