Homestead Fields Caravan and Camping: Spacious pitches

General

  • Peaceful site in Benniworth village, 15 minutes' drive from Louth
  • A 40-minute drive from the beaches at Skegness and Mablethorpe
  • Two-acre smallholding with resident alpacas, pigs and chickens

Looking for a peaceful base for Lincolnshire larks? Homestead Fields Caravan and Camping, in the village of Benniworth, is a quiet smallholding site that should fit the bill.

Country, coast and town trips are all easily sorted here – this two-acre park is on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with some top walks and bike rides to be had pretty much as soon as you set foot outside the park. The east coast seaside resorts of Skegness, Ingoldmells and Mablethorpe, meanwhile, are all around 40 minutes' drive away. The genteel Georgian market town of Louth is also close by (15 minutes), while the grand old city of Lincoln is about half an hour away.

If you’ve still got energy left after that little lot, stroll along to the local pub in 40 minutes or so for dinner (if you're hungry, drive it in five instead). Rather spend some time on site? Stick around to light up a barbecue and make pals with some of the site's resident alpacas, chickens and pigs.

Dogs are welcome to join you on your jaunt here – there’s a dog walking area where they can stretch their paws, as well as a free wifi connection for folk who’d like to catch up with the outside world while their pup investigates the sights and smells of their new surrounds.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

Really enjoyed our short (2 night) stay at Homestead Fields. The site and facilities were very well kept and clean. The perimeter dog walk with plants and benches is a nice touch. We will go again, towing a caravan to the site is easy and the Lincolnshire Wolds are a delight, beautiful yet really quiet.

    Disliked:

Peaceful location / local town short drive / kids loved little park / nice on site cafe (nice cuppa, food looked and smelled nice but we didn’t try ourselves) / clean facilities / pretty fishing ponds to stroll round (good nature photography spot) / gated site.

    Disliked:

Only one wash room and one toilet, to me this is enough for the amount of pitches but there was a couple of mornings were we had to queue. Not really a dislike just a little grumble. The kids didn’t like not being able to find the wifi zone but that really didn’t bother me lol

For a simple campsite it was well equipped. Toilet blocks were always clean . Bins were always empty and had multiple bins for recycling .Pitches were well maintained and spacious. The campsite had a lovely family feel and was very quiet and relaxing. The owners were fab. Really freindly and helpful. If we are up that way again we would definitely stay again.

The cleanliness of the facilities. The site had a fridge/freezer for guests to store their food. Added bonus was the picnic tables between the tents. This was fantastic as we pitched next to the family we were travelling with so was great for the kids to have their breakfast/bbq food on.

Use the postcode LN8 6JH for satnav directions. Once you've come off the B1225, travel for another 400 yards and look out for the site entrance on the left, just before a long walled barn (don't go down Meadow Lane, as it's a dead end). Please call the mobile number provided if you get lost.

Local attractions

Wanders around the Wolds start at the site gate. Hiking across the flat landscape should be pretty easy for most walkers: strolls up from Benniworth to Donington or Bain along the old railway line are highly recommended. For walks around a man-made landscape instead, head down to Walled Garden Baumber (10 minutes' drive), a kooky plant haven where green-fingered guests can also treat themselves to a cream tea.

Top towns in the local area include Louth (15 minutes) with its Georgian architecture and Spout Yard park, and Horncastle (15 minutes) for bargain-hunting on the high street's many antique shops. Lincoln (30 minutes) is another must-see stop on any trip here: head to the castle for medieval history or climb up to the cathedral's viewing gallery and admire the cityscape below.

For kid-pleasing days, try the cute animals at Rand Farm Park (15 minutes) or the bigger beasts on display at Woodside Wildlife Park (20 minutes). Family-friendly beach time can also be arranged – head to Mablethorpe or Skegness (both 40 minutes) if you want to feel the sand between your toes.

Must see

  • Lincoln Cathedral (15.5 miles)
  • Lincoln Medieval Bishops' Palace (15.6 miles)
  • Lincoln Castle (15.6 miles)

National Trust

  • Tattershall Castle (15.2 miles)
  • Gunby Hall Estate: Monksthorpe Chapel (18.1 miles)
