  • Peaceful, well-kept park with six lakes, walking trails and wildlife
  • A 15-minute drive to Lincoln; half an hour to the Lincolnshire Wolds
  • Café-bar, wifi, play area, takeaway food and fishing
Rural roams are firmly on the agenda at Hanworth Country Park, a serene site dotted with pretty paths and six lakes around 15 minutes’ drive from Lincoln. And angling’s on the cards too – four of the bodies of water here, stocked with mirror carp, common carp, chub, barbel, ide, perch, roach and tench, are open for fishing. There’s also a café-bar to order takeaway food and drink (with a handful of tables if you fancy eating in). Travelling with the tiddlers? Let them roam free in the play area. Animals are also often seen scampering around the park, especially around the lakes and woodland: think buzzards, red kites, woodpeckers and kestrels, as well as brown hares, squirrels, hedgehogs and deer. Attempt to catch a glimpse of these critters while roving along routes through the country park, either on foot or by bike; a favourite trails is the famed Lincolnshire Spires and Steeples path, which runs through the park and ends up at Lincoln Cathedral. Closer by is the village of Potterhanworth (10 minutes’ walk), a peaceful place with a handful of amenities including a large playing field with a play park, a skateboard park and tennis courts. A pub’s in the centre of the village – handy for evening drinks – and there’s a bus stop plying the Lincoln to Sleaford and Lincoln to Boston routes for explores via public transport. Surrounding villages such as Metheringham, Branston, Heighington and Washingborough are all within five miles and have conveniences like food shops, inn, takeaways, cafés, butchers and post offices.

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site

Liked The country park has great dog walks from your door around this huge site, pretty lakes, open fields and paths - really convenient for us as dog owners. The individual loos/showers were really clean and warm. The Chequers pub/restaurant is a short walk maybe 10 mins via footpath and serves fantastic food including pheasant, duck, and other fine dining options whilst retaining a lovely friendly relaxed atmosphere. Very dog friendly (they do dog meals!) and the staff are fabulous. The site us very handy for visiting Lincoln

Disliked Light sleepers may struggle with the heavy freight trains that pass very close to the pitches through the night. We woke several times the first night thinking something was crashing into our motorhome which was quite a shock but we got used to it over the next few nights. We had breakfast the first morning in the on site cafe/restaurant and the selection was great- really well prepared. Unfortunately on another occasion breakfast was limited to either a sausage or a bacon sandwich and the wait time was unacceptably long. On the Saturday evening the menu was just pizza, we waited about 40 mins for ours. Another evening, a slightly bigger choice but poor quality and again a huge wait. It seemed there were very few staff with only limited experience so not really their fault. The management team need to look at the quality of what they offer, it could be so much better
My husband did comment that the elsan point was quite gross, the worst he had seen

Pootling around on public transport? The nearest train station is in Metheringham (five minutes’ drive) for catching a ride to places including Peterborough, Sleaford and Doncaster. Lincoln (15 minutes) has a larger station with access to more destinations, but it’s worth lingering in this lovely city for a little while before fleeing further afield. Don’t miss the castle and cathedral or the shops and eateries in the cobblestoned Bailgate area. Keen to blend a few historically minded expeditions into your stay? Learn all about the Second World War at the International Bomber Command Centre (10 minutes), a memorial and interpretation complex dedicated to the RAF force that helped bring D-Day about.
