  • Peaceful, well-kept park with six lakes, walking trails and wildlife
  • A 15-minute drive to Lincoln; half an hour to the Lincolnshire Wolds
  • Café-bar, wifi, play area, takeaway food and fishing
Rural roams are firmly on the agenda at Hanworth Country Park, a serene site dotted with pretty paths and six lakes around 15 minutes’ drive from Lincoln. And angling’s on the cards too – four of the bodies of water here, stocked with mirror carp, common carp, chub, barbel, ide, perch, roach and tench, are open for fishing. There’s also a café-bar to order takeaway food and drink (with a handful of tables if you fancy eating in). Travelling with the tiddlers? Let them roam free in the play area. Animals are also often seen scampering around the park, especially around the lakes and woodland: think buzzards, red kites, woodpeckers and kestrels, as well as brown hares, squirrels, hedgehogs and deer. Attempt to catch a glimpse of these critters while roving along routes through the country park, either on foot or by bike; a favourite trails is the famed Lincolnshire Spires and Steeples path, which runs through the park and ends up at Lincoln Cathedral. Closer by is the village of Potterhanworth (10 minutes’ walk), a peaceful place with a handful of amenities including a large playing field with a play park, a skateboard park and tennis courts. A pub’s in the centre of the village – handy for evening drinks – and there’s a bus stop plying the Lincoln to Sleaford and Lincoln to Boston routes for explores via public transport. Surrounding villages such as Metheringham, Branston, Heighington and Washingborough are all within five miles and have conveniences like food shops, inn, takeaways, cafés, butchers and post offices.

Liked: The staff were really amazing and so helpful. We were staying as had to drop our motorhome off to a local garage to get it fixed. The reception ladies were incredibly kind and offered the use of their facilities as we had no power. The lovely cafe on site was a bonus and very popular with locals. There was a little noise from the train line at the back of the site but we didnt really notice it and it was not over night. The lakes are beautiful to walk around. The toilets were clean and tidy and there were plenty of them. We would stay again as it is very close to Lincoln for a day out.

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site

Liked: Size of the pitches, ease of check in, the fishing lakes.

Disliked: The abscence of a dog walking field/area where you can let your dogs off for a run. It’s supposed to be a dog friendly site but with no actual dog facilities which makes it hard for dog owners when their dogs have to be permanently on leads.

Liked: The pitches are excellent sizes and easy to get onto, the staff are very friendly and can’t do enough for you especially the manager, he’s on hand and chats to the visitors.
Amenities spotlessly clean and the cafe/bar is good value. The village is not far to walk to.

Disliked: Nothing, the place was great, the only downside at the moment is ladies toilets atr been revamped.

Liked: Small compact camp area with lots of room beyond the pitches for fun

Disliked: Female showers not ventilated and bins were always full. Felt like the owners were scrimping on the final touches.

Liked: The site was extremely clean and the staff were very friendly and polite. The site is a fishing retreat for anglers on site or out .The cafe was open for breakfast and was very nice and filling.our pitch was just at the side of the railway separated by small hill. The trains were not really noisy and the children loved running to the top and watching the trains.Even some adults were with them too. The site was very quiet and we loved it to the point we shall be returning.Highly recommend for sight seeing and people wanting peace and quiet.

Liked: Couldn't ask for more for our first outing in our caravan. The pitch was nice and flat, and made it easy as first timers to set up our caravan and awning. The park is well kept, and Melissa at reception was brilliant. Will visit again.

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site

Liked: Easy access with large caravan. Location good for Lincoln and the beautiful Lincolnshire countryside. Big pitches.

Disliked: Poor signage on arrival not clear where to go or where reception is.
Facilities not particularly clean, men’s shower heads will not angle down enough, if you are short then you may only get the top of your head wet!
Cafe food not great quality (the ‘Famous Hanbury Hash’ consisted of frozen potato croquettes.
Staff although friendly did not have the necessary experience to run a campsite.

Local attractions

Pootling around on public transport? The nearest train station is in Metheringham (five minutes’ drive) for catching a ride to places including Peterborough, Sleaford and Doncaster. Lincoln (15 minutes) has a larger station with access to more destinations, but it’s worth lingering in this lovely city for a little while before fleeing further afield. Don’t miss the castle and cathedral or the shops and eateries in the cobblestoned Bailgate area. Keen to blend a few historically minded expeditions into your stay? Learn all about the Second World War at the International Bomber Command Centre (10 minutes), a memorial and interpretation complex dedicated to the RAF force that helped bring D-Day about.
