Aldenham Country Park: Quiet rural camping just 12 miles from central London

General

  • Large peaceful parkland 12 miles from central London
  • Café, farm shop and barbecue rental
  • Activities on site including nature walks, animal feeding and fishing

City slickers! If you yearn for the bright lights of the UK capital but feel slightly faint at London hotel prices, you'll find the setting of Elstree's Aldenham Country Park magic.

This wild camping and peaceful park is less than a mile from the M1 motorway and 12 miles from central London – and three from Muggle-based antics at The Making of Harry Potter as well as seven from Wembley Stadium. (And another topping aspect of Aldenham's location? It's a tiptop option for Londoners seeking a nearby bolthole too.)

Although it's so close to the city, Aldenham is spellbindingly rural, set on a 175-acre parkland site next to a large lake and maintaining a quiet countryside atmosphere with nature walks and animal feeding among the activities for guests. Kids can also search for Winnie in the Pooh in the park's 100 Aker Wood area. Other activities include fishing and cycle rides on woodland trails.

The site's facilities include a café, playgrounds, barbecue rental and a shop selling farm produce. The amenities block has toilets, showers and disabled access.

Please note

The grocery shop is open between 01/01 and 31/12.

Facilities/activities including access to the adventure playground and the farm are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Owing to government regulations, groups of 7 or more people are not permitted.

Reception is unmanned after 6 p.m.. Please inform the park while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time so that the team can provide information about your unit/site.

There is recycling contribution fee of £2.50 per 5 guests per stay, which is payable onsite.

Awesome Staff, woodland, things to do, amazing cafe, not too busy at all, pretty quiet at night.

    Disliked:

Toilets did get a bit smelly, but they were totally clean so I have no complaints! Also the shop wasn't really stocked when we went, but the staff there explained that sadly the pandemic meant that the farm had to sell some of their animals and they weren't producing as much milk, eggs, and meat etc.

Our private area was really spacious (great value for money. Loved how the toilets were flushable and showers were warm. It was good how they were cleaned regularly too. The cafe food was amazing and there were some really nice activities to do like the farm, the 100 acre wood and crazy golf.
It was also fab how you can park your car right by your tent which made it so much easier to set up .
I’m not usually a camping person but i actually had such a nice time with my friends and would definitely come again/recommended to a friend. Great value for money !

Had a splendid weekend here at Aldenham Park. We were able to have a large and spacious private area for our group which left ample room for all of our tents, cars, fire pits, BBQs and gazebo. The farm was adorable and a real highlight for us. It was so much larger than expected and the animals were all happy and friendly. We also loved the hundred acre wood stroll. The Rustic Rhubarb cafe was incredible. Food was prepared quickly at an exceptional standard. Perfect hangover cure. The adventure playground was also amazing. All in all a lovely weekend, close to station and easy to travel to. Would definitely return here

    Disliked:

No access to drinking water so had to drive to a shop to purchase some. There were taps situated close to showers however these were not labelled drinking water. No hot water at washing up station. Although toilets always appeared physically clean, the smell was awful particularly during hot weather.

Really friendly staff, felt very welcome and safe. I’d thoroughly recommend going to the Avenues field if you want a more wild camping experience, there are mature oak trees and hedgerows there and it felt more authentic. The campfire package was perfect for an entires night fire.

    Disliked:

Constant daytime takeoffs and landing from the nearby leisure airfield. Could get noisy and somewhat spoil the country feel.
