Dart off to Derbyshire and make for Irondale Touring Caravans and Campsite in Stanton by Dale, a well-kept site attached to an award-winning pub. The name of this spot is a nod to Stanton's industrial heritage – if the village rings a bell, it may well be because 'Stanton' crops up on many a manhole cover across the UK. Nowadays, things are peaceful around here, and the site is set between traditional red brick houses and a small village green. The Chequers Inn is over 200 years old and still in fine fettle – its selling point remains its focus on real ales and proper home-cooked food. The pub, like the site, is mightily dog-friendly, so don't hesitate to bring four-legged friends along on your trip. The pitches here are level, well-drained and conveniently located to the rear of the pub. Although it's close to the M1, off-site strolls are unlikely to involve busy roads and traffic – Irondale Touring Caravans and Campsite is a few minutes' walk from footpaths that'll take you through the pleasant fields and hills that make up the local landscape. The nearest supermarket can be found in Sandiacre (five minutes' drive); Ilkeston (10 minutes) has a wider range of shops and takeaways. Please note that kids under the age of 14 aren't allowed to stay at Irondale Touring Caravans and Campsite.

A tidy, compact spot behind The Chequers Inn. Hardstanding pitches, often with picnic tables. Friendly owners, especially Sue, and a welcoming pub atmosphere. Good pub food, though book ahead. Toilets in the pub 24/7. Dog-friendly, with walks nearby. Mostly quiet with great facilities, but no showers and a tight entrance noted. Meet Ken the Harris Hawk!

Liked Only stayed the 1 night but lovely find. Quiet and small. Flat pitches. Friendly people in the pub. Watching the resident Harris Hawk be flown added to the experience.

Liked Fijne kleine campsite, gezellige pub en toiletten zeer netjes en 24 uur per dag open.
Sue is super aardig en haar dachsies zijn net zo lief en eigenwijs als onze Siepie (ook een dachsie) En Ken Moon is een prachtige vogel!!🦅

Disliked Prima plek om te overnachten.
Spijtig dat er geen douche is maar we hebben ons goed gered!

Liked The welcome text advising which pitch we were on. Sue ensuring we were settled and all set up 30 mins after arrival. Toilets open 24/7.
Lovely little country pub. Very quiet and peaceful. Not suitable for wide/long tourers due to access but we were fine in 7.5 m motorhome.
Did not try pub so can’t comment but looked lovey and dogs welcome

Liked Easy set up, nice pitch with plenty of room. Fur baby was able to just wander and was safe and enclosed.
Pub was only yards away, good food.
No shower block but not an issue as motorhome has its own.
Didn’t use any WiFi as was having an “off line” weekend.
Lovely walk, and fascinating history.

Liked Ken the Harris Hawk and the pitches well laid out and level. Food in the pub was very good and value for money. Finally a proper pub needs a proper landlady which this pub definitely has 10/10

Liked The site had 5 nice large pitch with electric. It was gated so felt safe for our pets should they have got loose.

The pub was good and the staff friendly with a good selection of drinks.

I felt there was good access from the Motorway. No small country lanes.
