Pitches and view of the castle and restaurant

  • Spectacularly scenic lakeside park, set around a 16th-century castle
  • A 10-minute drive from Newton Stewart and the Galloway Forest Park
  • Pools, inn, crazy golf, games room, playground and donkey corner
Care for a hol among spectacular Scottish scenery… on a fably kitted out park with access to its own loch for fishing – and with its own swish inn and restaurant to keep you fully fuelled? Come and call upon family-run Castle Cary Holiday Park in Dumfries and Galloway. Set a handy seven miles from Newton Stewart, Castle Cary is in splendid surrounds with royally fine views over the local woodland, fields and the estuary of the River Cree. It's centred around a 16th-century baronial castle, part of which has been restored as the Laird's Inn, a warm and cosy space of wooden beams, stone walls and open fires (it's best to book a table in advance here as it's rather popular). The inn's the place to retreat to after a day getting active around the site and in the local countryside: you can fish here or in river, sea or loch nearby; there's sailing, boating, horse riding and wild swimming all nearby, and Galloway Forest Park is 10 minutes' drive north. Castle Cary has excellent amenities to go with its smartly kept pitches, including a chalet building with showers, toilets, a disabled-access toilet, a baby changing room, a laundry room and sinks; guests also have access to a dishwashing area. The site also has a family-run café that serves breakfasts, meals, snacks, coffee and sweet treats. Facilities are rather fine too, with two big heated pools (one indoor and one outdoor; charges apply for both), a heated paddling pool, a playground, crazy golf, a games room with pool tables and video games, and – pretty much guaranteed to make the kids go gaga – a donkey corner to greet the site's four-legged residents.

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: The holiday park was lovely, very chilled out and had lots of walks and nice scenery. We enjoyed the swimming indoors and outdoors. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Our first time camping with a tent and young child. On-site food came in handy as we had some rain and unable to use BBQ/Gas stove. Also visited Stranraer for the dash which was only 30mins away. Lairds inn was great also. Would definitely visit again!

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Private pitch, close to toilets. Lots of greenery and wildlife. Cafe & pub on site. The area is beautiful and the Roadhouse Blues bistro done the road is spot on!

Disliked: Site getting very dated and tired. The A75 is quite noisy. Hookup point kept tripping when trying to use a kettle.

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: The park is clean and friendly. Staff are nice. The shower blocks are clean and modern.
The pools are really handy and the food in the cafe is good, big portions and reasonable priced.

Disliked: The chemical balance in the indoor pool is a bit harsh.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The site was sheltered and large, very close to the toilets and showers. Showers were immaculate and so spacious!! We even used the laundry and the staff were so helpful. Park was great for the kids to burn some energy off and the club house with the pool and games room we're all clean and tidy.

Disliked: Only issue was that the pub that was in close proximity played loud music until 11 each evening. The really heavy base was just awful especially every night. We did eat here one night and the food was great with no complaints but the staff behind the bar and the manager having conversations Infront of you while you're ordering, they gave a really rude brisk vibe.
Shame as it would actually put us off coming again even though the facilities were fantastic.

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: very spacious site- very quiet -plenty of activities for younger people- lovely views to countryside and coast

Disliked: although the unisex facilities came as a surprise it caused no issues at all as the site was virtually empty -unfortunately it seemed that the cleaning routine had not got around to the clear up after perhaps a busy weekend ? with many of the shower cubicles having wet floors, small sanitary bins full and no loo paper in others not much fun if you are looking for a toilet with paper and the floor not swimming in water - disappointed that the onsite pub was closed one of the reasons for picking the site was for the onsite bar!

Fully-serviced hardstanding motorhome pitch
