Campsite

  • Quiet and scenic campsite in Britain's largest national park
  • A mile from Strathdon; an hour and a quarter by road from Aberdeen
  • Small on-site shop and animal petting corner
For spectacular scenery, there's nothing quite like a stint in the Cairngorms National Park. They do rugged and remote rather well in this part of Scotland – the area is home to a quarter of the UK's rare and endangered species, four of its five highest mountains and over 60 separate lochs. Exploring all of the above day after day is tiring work, so you'll want to find somewhere to rest up and relax after gallivanting through the Highlands. Enter Cairngorms Glamping, a low-key but scenic site in a quiet corner of Aberdeenshire. All plots here come with their own water and power supply and have an excellent outlook over the neighbouring countryside. There's plenty of space to spread out over the well-kept grounds, plus a small on-site shop where you can pick up local butcher/baker goods and locally made gifts. Cairngorms Glamping also has an animal petting corner, where friendly creatures like pygmy goats, alpacas and a donkey look forward to meeting you. Up at the top of a hill, there's also a naturally occurring pond, so dragonflies, ducks and other wildlife can be spotted too. Cairngorms Glamping is roughly a mile from the village of Strathdon, which is home to a small but well-stocked supermarket.

What customers say

A great spot for families, with lovely views, spacious pitches and helpful owners. Loads for kids to do, like play areas & meeting the animals. Facilities are clean but basic, may be tight when busy. Remote for peace, but a drive to attractions.

Electric grass and earth pitch

Liked What an amazing site this is, we have stayed here before a few years ago, & this time it was even better. The pitches are nice, big and grass is kept short. The washing up areas, toilet & shower blocks have been improved too which were great. My daughter absolutely loved the critter corner, especially the goats! Owners are so friendly and helpful. The new park area with zip line at the back is so good, such a fantastic addition to the site. The stars on a night were breathtaking. You can get breakfast butties and coffee too, but it was way too hot today for that. Lovely site and we will definitely be back.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Was a lovely campsite with plenty to do for children .added bonus of a burger bar which sold gorgeous food . Went in an alpaca trek which was fun.not my typical campsite I would normally choose as a lot of children around but they was very well behaved ,and was summer holidays . They have baby goats and horses and a shop close by too and absolutely beautiful surroundings ,the views are breathtaking.i would go for a different pitch next time as the one on the back seems more like what I would choose but I would definitely come back even despite the pitch as they’re is still plenty of space between pitches .toilets were clean and spotless which was an added bonus .was also charging facilities in a little box think which was fab as I had forgot my power banks

Disliked Was my fault for not checking but just incase the non electric pitch is a compost toilet and definitely would have preferred a normal toilet which wasn’t a problem as there was normal toilets just not as close my pitch I was on

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked When we arrived the first thing was the warm welcome we received, which was great after a long day on the road cycling. The site is large and very family friendly with loads for the kids to do and plenty of space to play in. The views are stunning but for us also having hot food available in the evening and at breakfast was a massive plus. We only stayed one night, but loved the whole experience. Would recommend it for touring cyclists and families alike..:)

Electric grass and earth pitch

Liked The pitches had individual water available that was safe to drink. Decent space between each pitch. Critters corner, cute! Plenty of things for kids in a safe environment. Although we didn't have young children, good to see a set up like this. Staff friendly. Offered breakfast buns and fresh coffee in the morning, but didn't have it so can't comment on quality or taste.

Disliked The shower was tepid. Only a couple bursts of warm water, I think it can't handle numerous people using water at the same time. The shower didn't drain either so caused the floor surrounding to be very wet. And you were basically standing in other people's dirty water.

Local attractions

Looking to lounge about locally? Goodbrand and Ross gift shop and restaurant is a good place to grab a bite to eat or buy a few presents for folk back at home, while the Lonach Highland Gathering and Games take place annually a couple of miles to the north. For further typically Scottish attractions, try visiting one of the many distilleries in the area; the closest is roughly 30 minutes away. The Cairngorms is also uncommonly rich in castles, including the well-preserved ruins of Kildrummy Castle (20 minutes) and gorgeous 17th-century Braemar Castle (40 minutes). Balmoral (30 minutes), the long-term summer residence of the British royal family, will also be high up on the list of those seeking impressive architecture, art and antiques. Your hosts also recommend taking the time to drive out to Landmark Forest Adventure Park (an hour), a kid-oriented spot with a climbing wall, high ropes course, maze and rollercoaster. You might also like to drive east to the Grampian Transport Museum's top collection of exhibits (35 minutes), or to carry on all the way down to the North Sea coast at Aberdeen (an hour and a quarter).
