Field camping with no restrictions on pitching up
No restrictions on pitching up, just find a spot and relax
Grass pitches with woodland views
Firepits and barbecues allowed off the ground

  • Simple family-run site on a smallholding at Buckland Newton in Dorset
  • Cerne Giant 10 minutes’ drive and Weymouth beaches 35 minutes
  • Pitch up anywhere; livestock encounters available; dog walks from site
Dorset bound and looking for a peaceful rural hideaway away from the crowds? This back-to-basics, family-run site is tucked away on a working smallholding within 20 minutes' drive of historic Dorchester and 35 minutes from Weymouth beaches. Stays are on a splendid, gently sloping field with woodland edges and views across the hills. This is the sort of place where birdsong is the wake-up call, countryside walks get you to a cosy village pub and nights are peaceful, underneath dark (and often starry) skies. Dogs are welcome, by the way, and you can keep their exercise regime up with scenic countryside strolls from your pitch; they can also accompany you to the pub in Buckland Newton (20 minutes’ walk), where you can get a decent pint of Dorset cider. And if the kids (or indeed you) would like to meet the resident goats, sheep and hens (fresh eggs are often available for breakfast fry-ups), please ask the site owners. Simple facilities on site include a fresh water tap, waste disposal facilities and plenty of space to stretch out and relax – the well-kept camping fields have no designated pitches so you can set up wherever you fancy. The owners kindly ask that you respect the land as it’s on a working smallholding; make the most of your stay but leave no trace. Please leave the site as you found – and that includes only having campfires and barbecues that are off the ground so the grass doesn’t get damaged.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Really liked this site, so quiet & peaceful. Bathroom block was really cute and nicely done, very clean too!
The site is on a slope with semi flat patches in a few places so pick your spot carefully if you are in a tent.

Disliked Nothing to do with the site really but there was a family in the bottom corner whose kids were in and out of the bathrooms every 5 minutes and the parents were chasing them up the hill in the car!

From the manager: Thanks so much for the lovely review! We’re really happy you enjoyed the quiet setting and our new bathroom block, we put a lot of care into keeping everything clean and welcoming for you.

We’re sorry another family made things a little lively at times. It’s not typical for the site, and we always do our best to ensure everyone gets the peaceful experience they come for. We’ll continue keeping an eye on guest behaviour so the calm atmosphere is protected for all visitors.

Hope to see you again for another peaceful stay.

Me and the family are delighted to hear your kind words; we always enjoy welcoming guests with a smile.

Will H. 1 review

Non-electric grass and earth tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Great campsite, long field with plenty of space so you don’t feel like you’re intruding on neighbours. Well stocked toilets and decent shower, notably warm enough for the July sun. Phenomenal view at night of the stars.
The site is pitch black at night, so remember to bring a torch! (Plenty of nighttime wildlife such as owls and rabbits to keep an eye out for in the dark to not disturb, with friendly goats and sheep to visit during the day)

Disliked Could do with a better storage hook/area for stuff in the shower room, but otherwise you can make do

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for the wonderful review. We are really glad you enjoyed the space, the facilities, and those incredible starry nights. The peace, wildlife, and our goats and sheep are all part of what makes the site special, so it’s lovely to hear they added to your stay. And yes, it does get properly dark here at night, so your torch tip will definitely help future guests.

We appreciate your feedback about the shower storage too. It’s a small thing, but useful to know, and we’ll look at improving that area so it’s more convenient.

We’d love to welcome you back for another clear‑sky night under the stars.
