Set between Padstow and Newquay, and 15 minutes' drive away from each, Trewan Hall Camping Site should be a lovely little place for a Mid Cornwall break. The site has been developed on an old Cornish estate around the 17th-century mansion of Trewan Hall, and carefully maintained with traditional building techniques to blend in with its 36-acre woodland and garden surroundings. And speaking of gardens, they’re lush – have a look at the site pics… For families, the Hill family has added all sorts of little touches. There's a 25-metre outdoor swimming pool open from 10am to 6pm. Evening entertainment is also on throughout July. Available at all times is a large field for ball games in front of the Hall, a wooden playground and a library and writing room. Barns have also been set aside for table tennis, with an additional barn housing a pool table set for teenagers and adults. When it's time to sit down with a snack of some kind, head to the fully-stocked shop, which is open nearly 14 hours per day in high season (with shorter hours in low season). There are two different areas to pick a pitch from at Trewan Hall Camping Site: one aimed at families near the play park, shop and barns, and the other more secluded in a bigger field – in both, you can pitch up where you like to have plenty of room, with the owners managing bookings so that there are always more pitches than people and what’s on offer never feels overcrowded.

Grand spot, spacious, friendly staff. Clean loos, lovely pool, loads to do. Great for Cornwall. A bit of farm noise and some bits basic, but managers are sorting it.

Liked This place is paradise. Absolutely gorgeous location, you feel like your staying at a National Trust property. Leafy beautiful woodland paths everywhere makes it feel magical. Pitches are generously sized, toilets and showers immaculately clean and plenty to go around. Pool and playground a huge hit with my kids, as was the wonderful music in the evenings. Camp shop has everything you could have. One of those wonderful places where the kids are relaxed and find friends to play with. My teenagers loved the library and the snug, and the bath rooms, they thought a bath while camping was the height of luxury! Well behaved dogs everywhere was also lovely. For quite a big site it still felt quiet and peaceful. It is more expensive than the places we normally stay at, and we couldn't afford this for a longer camp (we did three nights), but it did feel well worth the price when you got there and saw how much was included.

Disliked Nothing, its perfection, we'll be back :)

Liked Lovely clean facilities, lovely grounds and views and nice clean and warm pool. Nice shop with lots of different foods and useful items.
Good entertainment and places for the children to play.

Disliked For us it could maybe be a bit more organised with the pitches and allocations. But most may prefer to choose their own pitches.

Liked Great location, lovely place, felt that the pitch given was enough space for our group of 5. Very accommodating to our group with deaf adults which was good to see. Had a swimming pool which was a nice addition especially with the weather being ridiculously hot. Lovely entertainment in the evening. Would recommend to others.

Disliked The toilets and showers needs a little updating, however saying that, it was sufficient enough for what was needed.

Route directions

The site advises that you take the Talskiddy turning off the A39 (towards St Eval and St Mawgan). The estate is the second and third left after that turning. Those with long vehicles should enter via the first entrance you come to. Please park on the large cobbled area and walk over to reception. All other arrivals should take the second entrance, which leads directly to reception. Please park in the car park provided.

Trewan Hall is near the centre of Cornwall with easy access to the north coast beaches and within easy driving distance of most of Cornwall’s attractions. For a short stroll, head into the old market town of St Columb Major (five minutes' drive), where there’s a 15th-century church, surf store, antique shop and fish and chip shops. The closest beach to Trewan Hall is Mawgan Porth (10 minutes). Gorgeous Watergate Bay is 10 minutes’ drive away, or head to the seven bays clustered around the village of St Merryn (15 minutes), a few miles from Padstow. Two top Cornwall spots within 10 miles are Newquay (15 minutes), where you should wriggle into your wetsuit for some stunning surfing (surf schools are all over town and nearby for the uninitiated), and Padstow (15 minutes) for the Camel Trail and Camel Estuary Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Zipwires, biodomes and more can be had at the Eden Project (25 minutes).
