Sea, surf and spectacular views – the deal at Sandy Acres Campsite sounds pretty good already, right? But there’s another element that might make it extra sweet, and that’s its dog-friendly nature. Four-legged guests (on a lead) are welcome – and not just on site, but also at the nearby beach, a vast expanse of golden sand also named Sandy Acres (five minutes’ walk, just beyond the Hayle Sand Dunes). As well as its splendid and convenient location, this pleasant site has a relaxed, low-key vibe. That doesn’t mean, however, that there are no perks here. True, there is no electric hook-up (though the owners will be happy to charge your mobile phone in the office), but there are several toilets, hot-water showers and a washing-up area (no hot water there, though). And while there's no fridge to store your grillable items, there is a freezer for your ice packs, plus a small café serving drinks and smoothies. For anything else, the nearest shop is just under a mile away, or you can head into Hayle town (10 minutes’ drive) for supermarkets, restaurants and pubs. With the practical aspects of your holiday taken care of, all you need to do is relax and take advantage of the site’s facilities, which include a surf school (catering to all levels) and equipment hire (from bodyboards and surfboards to wetsuits), plus yoga sessions, which take place on the beach (or in a wooden hut if the weather takes a turn).

A fantastic spot, handy for a lovely beach and dunes, with a cafe close by. Pitches are private, tidy and roomy. Showers and toilets are clean and good. Staff are grand and welcoming. A few wee things like mirrors and better lights would be grand, but everyone loves it and wants to come back.

Liked Lovely campsite in a good location. Shower block and toilets nearby to the pitches. Love how you just turn up and find your pre-booked spot by looking for your name on a blackboard on your pitch.

Disliked 2 toilets were blocked so only 2/3 working toilets, as well as only having around 4/5 showers so could do with having more toilets and showers to delay waiting. Also had some noisy camping neighbours who were chatting loudly in the early hours of the morning, of course this is not the campsites fault however our pitch was very close to them so could do with a bit more of a space between pitches.

Liked Sandy Acres was beautiful and very attractive, Gemma was lovely host, very clean bathroom and organised potentially we will be back again.

Disliked Unfortunately our neighbour parked his camper van 🚐 in front of our tent door not respecting our privacy, my wife and I had to keep our tent front door closed.

Liked Great facility’s, amazing location, lovely and quiet at night with amazing views, extremely easy access to the beach about a 5 min trek down the dunes with a cafe at the top (Speaking of the beach it’s incredible) also st Ives and Hayle is a short drive away, would also like to thank the staff for being so incredibly nice and hospitable would definitely stay here again

Liked This is a perfect location, you are a stones throw from a beach, a short walk to Hayle and really easy to get to

The facilities are just what you need, warm showers, a short walk to the toilet block and the freezer for ice packs is a great touch

We found the site really quiet which is just what we wanted ☺️

On the outskirts of Hayle, Paradise Park and JungleBarn Cornwall (10 minutes’ drive) is home to small mammals such as otters and red pandas, plus dozens of species of birds, including colourful parrots, flamingoes and a penguin colony. If birding is your jam, continue on to RSPB Hayle Estuary (10 minutes), inhabited by wetland birds. In St Ives (20 minutes by car, or take a 25-minute train ride from Hayle), the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden and Tate St Ives (the latter overlooking sandy Porthmeor Beach) ought to satisfy your art cravings. Then take a stroll through the town’s cobbled streets or along the harbour, stopping for ice cream or fish and chips. Head west to Porthcurno (35 minutes), where the Minack Theatre puts on plays and concerts in a most spectacular setting. The seating is carved right out of the granite cliff, and the stage has the waters of Porthcurno Bay as its dramatic backdrop.
