From the manager...

Good morning Jon. Thank you for your very kind review. We're are really happy you enjoyed your stay in our bivvy, despite the biblical weather when you stayed! It really is a lovely spot down on the lakeside, beautiful even in the rain. Looking forward to welcoming you back in the summer when with any luck we are fully open again. All the best,

You win the award for most amusing typo of the year! Thank you very much for taking the time to write your review. Apologies about the shower temperature, we have now cranked the boiler up to combat the lower temperatures. Hopefully we will welcome you back in the Spring/Summer to enjoy our 'fertilities' again! Stay safe, all the best.

From the manager...

Thank you for review Darlene, although we are very disappointed to see you rated us so low across the board. The cleanliness rating I can completely understand given your comments above and I can only apologise if the toilets were not up to scratch during your stay. They are cleaned multiple times daily at present so I only wish you had pointed out the cleanliness to me or another member of staff and we could have rectified the problem immediately.

The ratings for WiFi and Accommodation we wont take personally as we don't yet have WiFi and you stayed in your own accommodation however it is disappointing that you think our customer service, child friendliness, facilities and location were all below average, especially as these are areas we pride ourselves on and usually score so highly in. In regards to activities we implore all customers to call in advance to check availability as we, like almost every business in the country are not currently running as we normally would or at full capacity, for reasons I'm sure you are aware of and can understand. All the best.

Pretty Much everything else. No activities available, no WiFi, No food on site after 15:00. I thought £35 included electricity hook up but cost extra £4.59,This was our first attempt at campervanning and it totally put us off.

From the manager...

Good morning and thank you for taking the time to write a review. I can only apologise that your first campervan experience with us was not a positive one and I'd like to address your comments in order if I may.

Regarding activities: With the current restrictions as they are we cannot physically run activities outside of our current activity days of Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. This is primarily due to the fact we are required to quarantine all activity PPE for 72 hours before its next use. Bearing in mind the weekend is our busiest time of the week this makes it impossible for us to run activities on a Monday or Tuesday, when you stayed with us. I can assure you we would not be running such a limited number of sessions unless we had to. We are desperate to run more activities but following consultation with various governing bodies and our independent technical advisor it is just not possible at present.

Regarding WiFi: The location of our centre means WiFi is not something we can simply request and have installed. We have been hassling our provider for some time now however again, as I hope you can appreciate, this year any plans to provide WiFi to our site have been put on hold and this is totally outside our control.

Our Bistro opening times: Our Bistro opening times are entirely dictated by the staff we have available and by us prioritising which days we can justify opening based on likely footfall. For example we could open Mondays but it would mean closing another day of the week (when we are likely to be busier). In an ideal world, or on any other year, our bistro would be open 7 days a week until late. Covid has ensured unfortunately that this year that is just not practical or possible.

Our pitch prices were decided based on local competition and we feel are priced at a competitive rate. This is something we will continue to review and adjust accordingly.

As you can hopefully appreciate the centre is not currently running at full capacity, for what I also hope are obvious reasons. As with all activity centres or attractions in the present climate we highly recommend that people phone or email in advance in order to check availability. I hope you stick with campervanning and maybe visit us again next spring/summer when we are firing on all cylinders.

Local attractions

Marwell Zoo (five minutes' drive) has over 140 different species to admire – you can also leave the car back at base and stroll over (about 20 minutes) for a pedestrian safari. Paultons Park (25 minutes' drive) is another perennial fave for family-oriented days out – here you can meet Peppa Pig, crash down log flumes or opt for wanders through a dinosaur-filled forest.

The South Downs National Park has some truly splendid hiking trails, including the 100-mile-long South Downs Way (the trail starts 15 minutes down the road in Winchester). Mountain bikers also have plenty to choose from around these parts – an exhilarating bike track through the woods is on hand in the nearby village of Bishopstoke (10 minutes).

The gorgeous New Forest National Park (25 minutes) is also within easy reach, and one of the best ways to get around is by open-top tour bus. There are three routes to choose from – it all comes down to whether you prefer vistas of heather-covered heathland or coastal explores. Speaking of the sea, beaches like Lepe and Highcliffe Castle (both 40 minutes) are very much worth the journey (make sure to pack jelly shoes and a towel if at all tempted).
