  • Secluded and adults-only site within 30 mins' drive of Doncaster
  • Less than a five-minute walk from the River Idle and a waterside pub
  • Scenic site with golf driving range and fishing available to guests
Lazing comes naturally at 25-acre Misterton Holiday Park – it's an easy five-minute stroll away from the River Idle…And on top of that, this peaceful and adults-only site in South Yorkshire has pretty views out over the countryside and a spacious, grassy area on which to settle (perhaps with a picnic?) and admire them. Not planning to picnic all day? A driving range is on hand for golfers, and fishing is available a few minutes' walk away on the river for anglers (plus a waterside pub in which to celebrate your catch/console yourself on a less successful session). To stock up on groceries and other bits and bobs for your hol, Misterton village, a 20-minute stroll away, has a small supermarket and a butcher's shop (as well as takeaways if you’d rather not cook). This site’s also a 10-minute drive from the historic market town of Epworth, the former home of famed Methodist John Wesley, and less than five minutes from Shepherds Place Farm for days out with the animals. Gainsborough – a place of pottery-making coffee shops, playhouses, a heritage centre and a model village – is 20 minutes away and the large town of Doncaster is a half-hour drive for potters around the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum and the 18th-century Cusworth Hall.

Local attractions

If you’ve come to the countryside to catch glimpses of animal life, start with an outing to Tia Rescue Greyhound & Shire Horse Sanctuary (15 minutes’ drive), where you can meet the rescued creatures and feed farm animals, plus treat your own holidaying hound to something from the café’s special dog menu (while having tea and cake yourself, of course). Follow up with a potter around Potteric Carr Nature Reserve (25 minutes), to wander through the wetlands, or set off in search of somewhat larger and more exotic beasts (including polar bears, lions and a colony of giant otters) at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park (25 minutes). For active days out, paintballing and go-karting are within a 25-minute drive; if that all sounds a little hectic for your tastes, perhaps aim for the world’s largest collection of preserved trolley buses at the aptly named Trolley Bus Museum in Sandtoft (20 minutes) or drive to Lincoln (40 minutes) to wander around the medieval cathedral and handsome Norman castle.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Nothing at all

Disliked: Everything pulled up eventually after having trouble finding the place to be told by the person that answered the phone when we could not find the site hope you're not going to use anything to powerful on the electric as it might blow the fuse and it awkward to turn back on then got stuck in the mud trying to get on the hard standing so after getting back on the track that led to the site we decided that if we got stuck again we probably would not get out again we decided that it was to muddy and we left without staying even though we payed for the night oh and chap that runs the site said that pitch up should not be advertising and selling pitches on the site not happy all

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Lee & Mike, two permanent residents who were very helpful. Sadly this is the only saving aspect.

Disliked: To call this dump a 'Holiday Park' is putting to heavy a burden on the English language that its able to bare. Advertised as four hard standing pitches available with hook up, arrived (eventually) having navigated a potholed track through a disused golf course liberally endowed with piles of dumped soil to find no pitch available and no hook up. Thankfully Mike came to the rescue with a splitter which enabled to get power. No toilet or shower block, merely a chem loo disposable point and a water tap, (you only find this out after booking). To cap it all, when leaving on Monday morning exit blocked as some bunch of clowns were attempting badly to unload a mobile home and blocked the exit...... if your working away and living in a van/caravan for a while, are pretty much self sufficient then this may do, but for a 'holiday' avoid is my advice.

Disliked: Lots to dislike, if your a single man doable but not good for couoles, families slthough work was being done.... No toilet or shower, no onsite help lots of new arrivals asking me..... I think i shoukd have been paid to stay there.... Not enough pitches as a worker kindly put his caravan on hardstanding for winter but continued taking bookings....... So sad pitchup actually lets sites like this advertise....... The hardstanding has 10 ft of muddy grass to get across not so easy in winter....... Lots of people stayed 10 minutes...... Not well run Not a good site

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: Nothing liked the photos, no signs to let you know where site was on call up you get though to random caravan parks who don't have a clue where date is we spent 40 mins driving all over to find site when we did and was clearly by luck padlock code that was given was wrong , dog mess all over site and electric would only power the television and nothing else 4 hard standing pitches but electric being used in a residential van on grass pitch so that left 3 electric points 1 did not work so had to use a splitter from another pitch totaly not accepted, not worth the money and our wasted fuel trying to find this site
