Misterton Holiday Park: View from our caravan

General

  • Secluded and adults-only site within 30 mins' drive of Doncaster
  • Less than a five-minute walk from the River Idle and a waterside pub
  • Scenic site with golf driving range and fishing available to guests

Lazing comes naturally at 25-acre Misterton Holiday Park – it's an easy five-minute stroll away from the River Idle…And on top of that, this peaceful and adults-only site in South Yorkshire has pretty views out over the countryside and a spacious, grassy area on which to settle (perhaps with a picnic?) and admire them.

Not planning to picnic all day? A driving range is on hand for golfers, and fishing is available a few minutes' walk away on the river for anglers (plus a waterside pub in which to celebrate your catch/console yourself on a less successful session). To stock up on groceries and other bits and bobs for your hol, Misterton village, a 20-minute stroll away, has a small supermarket and a butcher's shop (as well as takeaways if you’d rather not cook).

This site’s also a 10-minute drive from the historic market town of Epworth, the former home of famed Methodist John Wesley, and less than five minutes from Shepherds Place Farm for days out with the animals. Gainsborough – a place of pottery-making coffee shops, playhouses, a heritage centre and a model village – is 20 minutes away and the large town of Doncaster is a half-hour drive for potters around the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum and the 18th-century Cusworth Hall.

Don't stay here07/26/2021

Large pitches. EHU. Lovely pub next to the campsite

    Disliked:

Don't stay here. When we arrived we had to call the number on the booking as no clear sign this is even a campsite. It's a driving range with a field surrounding it. They guys on the other end of the phone have no idea where this site even is, so basically had to work it out ourselves. Terrible service. Then, when we got to the tent pitches there were several large mounds of soil, not pleasant to look at right next to your pitch. Stray balls from the driving range could definitely reach your tent if unlucky. This should not be a campsite. Then on the last night, one of the caravans behind us were up partying until 4am! Not good when you have to be up at 8am to pack up. They also had a child with them. This is supposed to be an adult only site. Again, as no site management, this cannot be guaranteed. Lovely campsite across the road (Haxey Quays). Loads cheaper and has facilities.

This is quite simply the worst campsite I have ever booked. Area is great and there are better campsites within a few hundred yards. Drove in and drove out again.
Booked site across road which was cheaper and a 100 times better.
Owner told me he has just taken over and is going to do improvements. It needs it. Asked for refund and not given.

Fabulous camping field...ruined by long stayers. Get rid!07/13/2021

Lovely, well kept open grass field, spacious, well drained, flat, no problems with electricity or water. Elson point.

    Disliked:

No signpost (I live in the area, and I drove past the entrance twice).

Golf driving range needs a cut off point. Smakking golf balls at 11:00 p.m. gets a bit tedious.

We stayed for 3 nights in the tent camping field.
Behind us was the caravan hard standing. I think that there are a few "long stay" caravans there (possibly living there)..from which eminates a strong smell of cannabis..on all 3 nights starting at around midnight one of the couples in the long stay caravans start the most horrific row. Screaming and shouting at each other, this escalates into violence when "Leon's" female partner actually threatened to stab him. This further escalated and the other caravans joined in becoming a mass brawl. Then other vehicles and motorcycles began arriving...until finally on the 2nd night at around 2 in the morning the Police were called in....However it continued to kick off periodically throughout the night after the Police left.

Like I say...This was on all 3 nights that we stayed.....ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING!

Fabulous camping field. Completely ruined by these long stayers in caravans....They seriously have got to go!

Book without using PITCH UP06/28/2021

The location as it's ideal for local walks along the canal and there are a few different pubs in the area. It's peaceful and quite. The high rating is for Misterton and not for Pitch Up.

    Disliked:

The fact PITCH UP advertised that there were toliets and a shower block. Spoken to staff on behalf of Misterton who have been extremely helpful and Informed us PITCH UP were fausly advising these factlities as being open from May 17th. Still awaiting a refund and any responsibility from PITCH UP. We would honestly book directly now and not use PITCH UP.

Local attractions

If you’ve come to the countryside to catch glimpses of animal life, start with an outing to Tia Rescue Greyhound & Shire Horse Sanctuary (15 minutes’ drive), where you can meet the rescued creatures and feed farm animals, plus treat your own holidaying hound to something from the café’s special dog menu (while having tea and cake yourself, of course).

Follow up with a potter around Potteric Carr Nature Reserve (25 minutes), to wander through the wetlands, or set off in search of somewhat larger and more exotic beasts (including polar bears, lions and a colony of giant otters) at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park (25 minutes).

For active days out, paintballing and go-karting are within a 25-minute drive; if that all sounds a little hectic for your tastes, perhaps aim for the world’s largest collection of preserved trolley buses at the aptly named Trolley Bus Museum in Sandtoft (20 minutes) or drive to Lincoln (40 minutes) to wander around the medieval cathedral and handsome Norman castle.

Must see

  • Brodsworth Hall and Gardens (17.6 miles)
  • Sherwood Forest Country Park (19.9 miles)
  • Lincoln Castle (20.1 miles)

National Trust

  • Mr Straw's House (14.9 miles)
  • Clumber Park (16.1 miles)
