A little wilder corner

  • Remote site set on the edge of Northumberland National Park
  • A short drive to Kielder Water and Forest watersports activities
  • Café/bar on site selling local produce and crafts
Remote, wild, spacious and scenic are all terms rightly fitting The Boe Rigg, in Northumberland National Park a few miles from the market town of Bellingham. Walking and cycling routes are all around here, along with a huge range of outdoor activities within a short drive including the high ropes, watersports and zipwires of Kielder Water and Forest. Also within driving distance are several famed north of England attractions such as Hadrian's Wall and Alnwick Castle, both under 40 miles, and the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, under 50. The site's excellent facilities include a café/bar open daily to sell produce and handicrafts from local growers and craftspeople. Among The Boe Rigg's other amenities are accessible washrooms with toilets and hot showers, a launderette with washers and dryers and a washing-up area. Free wifi is available in the main building. Campfires and barbecues are both allowed but must be off the ground.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The spacious plot, the hosts hospitality, the position and convenience to get out and about, the cleanliness and presentation of the amenities

Disliked: Some other campers were inconsiderate ( no fault of the site) openly urinating, playing loud music after midnight, throwing the ball for the dog onto other people's pitches with a complete disregard for others

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Campsite was easy to find and pitches were spacious. Toilet and shower block was clean and relatively close to pitches. Restaurant made good food and firepits available. Firepit conditions vary but those did the job.

Views are great and nice local gallery shop-cafe on site. Bellingham on closw aproximity and shops and cafés.Kielder forest 25 mins easy drive.

Personnel was kind and super friendly. There was big groups but site was peaceful and everyone respect eachother.

Disliked: It would be useful if campsite would hand small leaflet to inform visitors. Just small thongs like washing up room opening times, restaurant service times and firepit hire information.

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Large pitch which was reasonably flat, toilets and showers were clean enough but could do with some updating. Bar and restaurant on site which was great. Lovely walks in the area.

Disliked: Washing up area was in the same room as all the restaurants freezers and there always seemed to be a queue unless you got there early as it gets locked overnight so could do with a stand alone outside under some shelter maybe?
Not necessarily the campsites fault but first night we had a very loud family drinking and playing music till around 1am after we were warned by the site that it was quiet site from 10pm again not overly bothered but if you had kids then it's just a pre warning second night was much better.

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: A Perfect Getaway: Relaxed, Welcoming, and Ideal for Large Tents

We had a fantastic stay at Boe Rigg Campsite. It’s an ideal spot for anyone with a large tent, with plenty of space and well-laid-out pitches that make setting up easy, even in windy conditions.

The site has a lovely farm feel, with a peaceful, down-to-earth atmosphere that instantly puts you at ease. It’s owner run, and that personal touch really shines through. The warm, cozy vibe makes you feel genuinely welcome, more like a home from home than just a campsite.

The facilities are thoughtfully designed, with little touches that make a big difference, like shelves and hooks in the showers (so helpful!). And the food? Absolutely brilliant. Tasty, hearty meals that are perfect after a day of exploring or just relaxing on site.

Highly recommend for anyone looking for a calm, friendly place to unwind. We’ll definitely be back

Liked: Good location

Disliked: Facilities run down, building materials lying around bathroom area. 3 toilets and 2 showers in ladies for a large campsite and 1 sink for washing up.

Local attractions

Kielder Water and Forest within 16 miles are full of watersports activities such as canoeing, sailing, and waterskiing, along with water walker and sea scooter hire. A high ropes course, climbing, zipwiring, fencing, archery and crossbow are among the many forest activities available on and above land. Three of the attractions of the Hadrian's Wall UNESCO World Heritage site are within a short drive: Housesteads Roman fort, the most complete in Britain; Vindolanda, and Chesters Roman Fort, six miles from Hexham. Also famed in the region is Alnwick Castle and Garden 37 miles away, made up of huge formal gardens including the world's largest treehouse, and in a setting that will be instantly recognised by Harry Potter fans (broomstick training is available during the summer months: how magic). The Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is about 45 miles from here, to reach Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island via moorland, countryside and ancient forest. The site is 45 miles from Carlisle.
