  • Peaceful, dog-friendly site within the North York Moors National Park
  • Five minutes’ drive from Whitby's seaside, abbey and museums
  • Barbecues permitted on site and cycle hire nearby
Pitch up in the North York Moors National Park at Long Meadow Farm and the pretty views will have you itching to get out for explores of both coast and countryside. There are plenty of walks in the surrounds for all abilities at this family- and dog-friendly site, five minutes’ drive from the sea at Whitby, with wildlife to keep an eye out for as you amble. If you prefer to trundle on wheels, cycle hire is available over the road from Long Meadow. After a day well spent navigating the local area, head back to the park for some refuelling – there’s a supermarket in Whitby for supplies and barbecues are permitted on site, so grab anything that can be grilled and get ready to tuck in. If your roams have you tired out and you’re not up to cooking, a couple of pubs serving meals are within walking distance, so you can stop in for a quick refreshment before hitting the hay. Please note that this site does not have toilet or shower facilities.

What customers say

A well-kept, tranquil spot with lovely views, handy for Whitby and beyond by foot or bus. Guests liked the simple text check-in. Road noise and tight pitches are mentioned, but no loos/showers are clearly advertised for those prepared.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Quiet peaceful site.
We had pitch 1 which is set away from the other pitches which was good as we were worried in case our 2 little ones made noise.
Liked the text check in facility made things easier and we could go straight to our pitch.
No problems at all.
Clearly advertised that there are no shower or toilet facilities.

Disliked Quite a bit of road noise but to be expected when not far from main highway. Nothing an ear plus didn’t fix!

Non-electric gravel touring pitch

Liked Very easy to book, quiet evening though near main road. Water and grey/black disposal easy to access.

Disliked The pitch was on a slight slope but managed ok. Toilets would be an improvement. Rubbish dumpster was full.

From the manager: Pleased to read you won't be coming again.

There wasn't actually a problem; you were text with pitch details and responded by saying that someone was occupying your pitch. Yes they were, because you arrived at 10:00am when PitchUp makes it clear that check-in is from 12 noon.

You then said that you'd tried calling earlier (you hadn't) to request an early check in, but regardless this wouldn't have made any difference because the site was full anyway so this was not possible.

Perhaps reading is not your speciality as I later learnt that you drove down the wrong entrance and someone next door had to assist you to reverse the van and caravan even though there are signs clearly saying not to drive down there.

In spite of you turning up well before check in time we kindly allowed you to begin your stay once the pitch was vacated. A kind gesture we won't be replicating for others in future owing to your ridiculously entitled review.

Silly season is in full swing!

Local attractions

If you don’t spot any animals scampering about the North York Moors while staying at this site, set off to the SEA LIFE Scarborough aquarium and eye up some underwater creatures instead. The town also has a castle to check out, along with a sandy beach (half an hour's drive). Stretches of coast closer by include Robin Hood's Bay (five minutes), which is also home to a fab old fishing village, and strolls along the seaside at Whitby’s harbour are also a satisfying way to while away your time. Head to this town – said to be the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s spooky novel Dracula – to have a gander at the atmospheric abbey as well. If you’re keen on seeing the scenery of the nearby national park but not on two feet, make tracks to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which leaves from Whitby and chugs along for 18 miles with views of Newtondale’s geological formations and Fen Bog’s nature reserve. Kids can’t keep still? Tire them out at Go Ape Dalby (35 minutes), a treetop adventure park with all sorts of activities available, or take them to Alpamare waterpark (25 minutes) to whoosh down the slides and float in the pools.
