Barlings Country Holiday Park: Lake scenery

General

  • Dog-friendly site in a peaceful country park in Lincolnshire
  • A 15-minute drive from Lincoln and 55 minutes from Skegness
  • On-site fishing lakes and picnic areas; dog walk on site; CCTV cameras

See what you can reel in at Barlings Country Holiday Park… while the on-site fishing lakes are a sweet spot to see who can haul in the biggest fish, you might also find you’ll catch the bug for cycling and walking in the peaceful Lincolnshire countryside – or skipping between seaside resorts such as Skegness and Mablethorpe, 55 minutes’ drive away.

In a country park 15 minutes’ drive from Lincoln, there are 23 acres on site and plenty of exploring to be done on your doorstep – with a rather attractive backdrop too, as the lakes add a splash of scenery as well as a place to unwind with a fishing rod.

Perhaps you'll want to plop down in one of the peaceful picnic areas with your dog beside you (two dogs are permitted per pitch, kept on a lead and accompanied at all times). Conveniently, there’s a dog walk on site and a waste bin at the end of the footpath.

Other facilities on site include free and central modern amenities block with wet rooms (disabled shower facilities and baby changing too), plus a slightly older shower block further into the park. The amenities block has water filling and emptying points, recycling points, a dishwashing area and a coin-operated laundry room.

Things already feel pretty spacious and private here, but you're likely to sleep soundly with a belly full of tasty food from the several food shops, restaurants and pubs 10 minutes’ drive away and CCTV for security and peace of mind.

Barlings was our first weekend away in our converted van and it was the perfect place for it! Was really peaceful and quiet, facilities were clean and pleasant to use! We had originally booked hard standing but we got to our lot and it was a bit too close to the path for the dog, so we asked if we could move and the lady at reception was lovely and got us a more suitable spot! The location was perfect for a family of 4 and a dog, being so close to the centre of Lincoln and yet plenty of country walks! Couldn’t recommend enough!

On arrival staff very friendly and helpful. We was placed close to toilets which was fantastic as most other tents was really far away. Toilets cleaned regular altho the water from the showers was luke warm. Lovely and pieceful site which is what we wanted. Most shops like aldi/lidl etc within 10 min drive. Even a go outdoors close buy if you forget things. The pond its self would be a great pond if it was tended to and sorted out to catch fish. We did however have a great stay and it was lovely to relax.

    Disliked:

We are campers that like to mainly spend time fishing. Thats why we chose this site but the pond did not live upto the description online. It is too deep making it impossible to catch fish. Some of the pegs are under water. After speaking to some of the locals who live on site in the lodges they said there is no big fish in the pond and it needs sorting out not worth paying the daily fishing price. While we stayed We saw crows a few times swoop down and take fish from the waters. My husband and son caught about 6 fish in the whole 9 nights we stayed and they was only little tiddly things.

Local attractions

It's a hop, skip and a jump from the site to Woodside Wildlife Park (five minutes' drive), a local zoo with live feeding demonstrations where you can get up close and personal with an array of animals. More family-friendly animal antics are on hand at similarly nearby Rand Farm Park too (10 minutes), where there is also indoor and outdoor play for younger visitors.

Look to Lincoln (15 minutes) for days out with grownups and older kids: it's got a castle, a cathedral, an ancient copy of the Magna Carta and excellent opportunities for shopping, dining and exploring old cobbled streets. If you liked being on your feet in Lincoln, head to the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (25 minutes) for more rambling, this time in the countryside, and take on some of the 76-mile Lincolnshire Wolds Way.

Hearing the call of the coast? It's just under an hour to seaside towns like Cleethorpes, Skegness with its pier and Mablethorpe with its amusements.
