  • Dog-friendly site in a peaceful country park in Lincolnshire
  • A 15-minute drive from Lincoln and 55 minutes from Skegness
  • On-site fishing lakes and picnic areas; dog walk on site; CCTV cameras
See what you can reel in at Barlings Country Holiday Park… while the on-site fishing lakes are a sweet spot to see who can haul in the biggest fish, you might also find you’ll catch the bug for cycling and walking in the peaceful Lincolnshire countryside – or skipping between seaside resorts such as Skegness and Mablethorpe, 55 minutes’ drive away. In a country park 15 minutes’ drive from Lincoln, there are 23 acres on site and plenty of exploring to be done on your doorstep – with a rather attractive backdrop too, as the lakes add a splash of scenery as well as a place to unwind with a fishing rod. Perhaps you'll want to plop down in one of the peaceful picnic areas with your dog beside you (two dogs are permitted per pitch, kept on a lead and accompanied at all times). Conveniently, there’s a dog walk on site and a waste bin at the end of the footpath. Other facilities on site include free and central modern amenities block with wet rooms (disabled shower facilities and baby changing too), plus a slightly older shower block further into the park. The amenities block has water filling and emptying points, recycling points, a dishwashing area and a coin-operated laundry room. Things already feel pretty spacious and private here, but you're likely to sleep soundly with a belly full of tasty food from the several food shops, restaurants and pubs 10 minutes’ drive away and CCTV for security and peace of mind.

Liked: The lake view pitches.

Disliked: Seemed like they weren't actually pitches but part of the carpark. Showers were dated at best. The more recent ones were filthy & luke warm. Elsan point was blocked & over flowing.
There was music playing somewhere around from 4pm till 6am despite being told it was quiet time from 11pm. Staff said it came from a farm 3 miles away which i doubt, it was very clear to be that far away.

From the manager: Hello I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay. To address a couple of points in your review. The toilets were cleaned twice daily so i am sorry you found them dirty i can only assume it was in between cleans. As for the music it was the farmer in Sudbrooke having a birthday party for one of his children. His land comes right up to near the level crossing in Langworth which is why it seemed so nearby. I personally patrolled park several times as i like you were disturbed by the noise. Had it have been anyone on park they would have most definitely been told to stop.

Friendly and helpful staff in a scenic park with lovely surroundings.

Liked: We had a spacious pitch by the lake which was scenic & private. The hard standing pitch was level, meaning we didn't have to mess about with the wheel ramps! The WC/Shower block was clean and functional and was adequately sized to cater for all the residents. We never had to wait to use any of the facilities. All the staff we met were helpful and welcoming. The personal "key fob" barrier is good and gives you a sense of added security. We didn't use the WiFi or travel with children so haven't left a 'star' rating for those points.

Disliked: Just as a note of constructive criticism...the shower water temperature was just warm and could do with increasing a few degrees, however the pot wash facilities were piping hot!
We stayed during the night that the rave music was playing until 6am, however this was definitely coming from outside the park (by some distance) and is obviously beyond the control of the Barlings staff/owners. It was just bad luck that it happened during our stay although it did only happen one night and the rest of the time the site was quiet and peaceful.

Liked: Beautiful site, with large pitches, plenty of room in-between. Well maintained camp site, with friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere. Fishing lakes were great for kids catching small fish but nothing of any size. Good size dog walk at rear of site. Pub only a short walk away with really nice menu. Lincoln only a short ride away.

Liked: We were met with a warm welcome and given information about the site and surrounding area. The site is secured by barriers and gated at night (you’re given a fob on check in) which was reassuring.

There’s a lovely little pub 10 minutes walk away (top of the lane and turn right) which serves good food and has good menu options. Also on the main road (turn left at the top of the lane) is a bus stop with a couple of buses an hour to take you into Lincoln.

The pitches are huge and well spaced out, the facilities are basic but adequate and the site is natural and not manicured.

Disliked: There’s not a lot to dislike but the ponds/lakes are small and quite weeded and didn’t appear to be well stocked (according to site regulars) which is fine for kids (who seemed to be loving the fishing) but not so for a keen angler. It wouldn’t deter us from coming back though because it’s a lovely site and we enjoyed our stay.

Liked: Lovely location Lincoln not far. Local pub.
Good toilet/shower accommodation. Kept clean
Helpful staff

Disliked: Showers cold apart from one of them.
Found the electrical hookup a bit odd. Just one of them to support surrounding pitches. Need an extra long extension lead to accommodate this. Does say on website.

Powered grass caravan site

Liked: Pitches level, quiet during the day. Pitches in nice area between the lakes.

Disliked: Picked site as no groups allowed, how wrong were we :-(
98% seasonal pitches, looks more like a carpark, vans far to close together, even had a motorhome and caravan on same pitch so close the van door could not be opened, major fire risk. Supposed to have tents in separate area however a tent was put near our caravan (camping area empty) friends of the seasonal users! They then proceeded
to have a birthday party by the tent, attended by at least a dozen adults, playing football (not permitted in this area) and did not relocate to their own vans till after 10.30pm where they continued. No warden onsite or any staff, no tel number to contact warden in event of any issues. Toilets cleaned mid morning and then no checks or maintenance till next day, ended up having to do the job myself, showers cold. Will we go back definitely not. This is not a touring site it's a static site, we went for the fishing but the lakes are in such a poor condition you are only going to catch weed, major amount of goose poo everywhere.

Local attractions

It's a hop, skip and a jump from the site to Woodside Wildlife Park (five minutes' drive), a local zoo with live feeding demonstrations where you can get up close and personal with an array of animals. More family-friendly animal antics are on hand at similarly nearby Rand Farm Park too (10 minutes), where there is also indoor and outdoor play for younger visitors. Look to Lincoln (15 minutes) for days out with grownups and older kids: it's got a castle, a cathedral, an ancient copy of the Magna Carta and excellent opportunities for shopping, dining and exploring old cobbled streets. If you liked being on your feet in Lincoln, head to the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (25 minutes) for more rambling, this time in the countryside, and take on some of the 76-mile Lincolnshire Wolds Way. Hearing the call of the coast? It's just under an hour to seaside towns like Cleethorpes, Skegness with its pier and Mablethorpe with its amusements.
