  • Remote and rural site in the Lincolnshire countryside
  • Home to many rescue animals including hens, pigs, geese and ducks
  • Fish at the well-stocked lake for an additional fee
What a lush site this is for holidays in the Lincolnshire countryside, whiling days away fishing, woodland walking and just lazing by the lakeside with an open book or one's very own thoughts. There are animals too… Small and family-run Sunflower Park near Gainsborough has taken in quite a few rescue animals in their time (they're a friendly and welcoming lot here), so on site you'll meet the three family pets as well as some alpacas, several ex-battery hens and their strutting cockerel. Also adopted are a family of geese, ducks, Kunekune pigs and a couple of Gloucester old spots: do make sure to say hi to all. As you might guess, this is a relaxed and amiable site, set remotely and rurally on a five-acre plot that includes paddocks, a playground, open pastureland, a private woodland walk and a well-stocked fishing lake (grab a fishing day pass for a small additional fee) exclusively for guests' use. You might reckon the park's remote rural setting makes it a wildlife haven too, and you'd reckon right: its boundaries run directly into Laughton Forest's Tuetoes Wood, a Forestry Commission nature haven for walking and cycling among the trees, and home to wildlife like deer, foxes, owls, rabbits, jays, pheasants, cuckoos, woodpeckers – all within viewable and hearing distance from your pitch. Sunflower Park has toilets, showers, a drying room, a launderette and ice pack freezing. Firepits are available for hire for the whole of guests' stays and arrive full and ready to light. Please note that due to being in a forest location and on sandy ground, you will most likely come across spiders, ants, lizards, grass snakes, beetles etc. Please only book if you are comfortable with the fact that there will be wildlife around you.

A beloved, characterful site! Owners are friendly and down-to-earth, with a focus on rescue animals. Abundant animal encounters, playground, fishing lake and a relaxed atmosphere are a big hit with families. While some facilities need updating, the unique charm and passion of the place shine through. Improvements are ongoing.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked This campsite is like no other I have ever stayed on.
We stayed in the wild camping area which was a bit like staying on a farm which is based on a beach with trees 🤣

The gaggle of geese parading about the site en mass leaving little 'land mines' in their wake. The sound of the booming emus. The yoga practicing alpaca. The goat and sheep butting heads figuratively and literally. Its all a bit mad, as are the people and WE LOVED IT ALL!

It's sandy. It is a little smelly. The bathrooms are not immaculately clean...but who cares?

Scrumpy on the patio outside the bar-cum--shop-cum-cafe-cum-clubhouse. Pizzas delivered to the picnic table and football and good craic and a warm welcome from all.

If you want immaculate facilities this might not be for you.

If you're the type of person who likes to lean into a bit of a crazy adventure, embraces having dirty feet, enjoys the rather perverse act of cooking bacon in front of the pig paddock, a fab pint of scrumpy, and a fab full English...get booking. Sunflower Park and The Crazy Gang are waiting to welcome for you.

Disliked Coming home.

Liked Reading through the reviews it is obvious that Sunflower Park is the marmite of campsites. What I hope to give here is an honest review the resolves the mass question: Sunflower Park, yay or nay?
We have been to Sunflower Park two years running. Sunflower Park advertises itself as a rough and ready family run campsite centred around its love of animal rescue, and family values: kid friendly, respectful, and fun.
Even with the England match on over the weekend, and the onsite bar hosting a viewing with beer and pizza, the campsite was still peaceful and quiet the whole time.
The staff at Sunflower Park are friendly and welcoming, and so happy to talk about their animals, their passion, and what is essentially, their home. Ian has a wild past life if you ask him about it!
Jason is a fantastic guy, another core part of the Sunflower Park family, who welcomed and chatted with our 3yo whenever he saw her. She was delighted!
Lots of reviews mention that Sunflower Park is “run down”. In all honesty, I can see why people are saying this, but I don’t think it’s fair. Is it run down, or is it just well used? The facilities aren’t brand spanking new, sure, but they are cleaned daily and well looked after. The playground is well loved, safe, and utterly delightful. My daughter loved the trampoline and tires best!
Yes of course there are things that need sorting: the old off limits trampoline is ring fenced with danger tape and needs removing; the pigs need a better more robust shelter; BUT, nothing is unsafe and these things are already on the Sunflower Park radar as they seek to sort and fix things.
Sunflower Park is not like campsites which are run as a business detached from the family. Sunflower Park is where Josie and Ian and their friends and family, all live. And when you visit Sunflower Park, you visit their home. So yes, it is a bit crazy and bit quirky (the commitment to the sunflower theme is phenomenal and hilarious, complete with fake sunflower paraphernalia everywhere, Josie’s tattoos, and Ian’s black tank tops sporting garish sunflower prints on the front), and it is FULL of character. But that’s honestly why we love it. It is rough, ready, authentic, friendly, welcoming, well loved, and full of joy.
If you are looking for a clinical and pristine campsite, Sunflower Park is not for you. If you want to be woken up by a hoard of geese, drink your coffee whilst watching the pigs, donkeys, Shetland ponies, goats, highland cows, and emus go about their day: this is the campsite for you.
Our daughter was delighted and excited every morning to go and say hello to the animals. She was safe and happy, and we as a result had a relaxed and fantastic time.

Disliked Goose poo, but that’s the nature of the goose!

Liked We loved the whole stay. Received a lovely warm welcome from Josie. The animals and playground were a real hit with our 8 year old. Bar/cafe/shop on site offering lots of choice. Pizza van in the evening was a lovely bonus.
Reading past reviews and with the hot dry weather we knew that it would be a bit dusty, it really wasn't an issue. You can see the owners working hard to make improvements to the site which is positive and will make it even better.
We had a nice walk through the woods building dens and exploring.

Disliked No dislikes as such just things we noticed that aren't all the owners fault...
The showers/toilets weren't left clean by previous users, even though equipment left inside to let users clean up after themselves.
The camping field did have a bit of rubbish on and even some tent pegs left lying around, again down to customers not being respectful (we picked up and disposed of these around where we pitched).
The playground could maybe do with fencing off maybe, just to prevent the geese poop as lots of the kids kicked off their shoes to enjoy the trampolines, and again people had left litter instead of using the bins provided. The playground equipment does look a bit tired in places but was perfectly safe and was always full of happy kids.

Liked Oh gosh where do I even start, if you’re looking lots of animals and a very relaxed site this is the one for you.

Both Ian and Josie are the most lovely kind people you could wish to meet and it’s simply astonishing what a special place they’ve created there at Sunflower Park.

Luigiz Pizza night was THE best pizza we’ve had.

Would 100% return

Local attractions

Walkers, hikers, cyclists, energetic runners and nature spotters have Tuetoes Wood right beside Sunflower Park, the Forestry Commission-managed and publicly accessible part of vast Laughton Forest. If you're an avid animal fan, take time to get to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park just outside Doncaster, home to a menagerie of over 300 from around the world, and to The Deep at Hull, one of the biggest aquariums in the UK and a habitat for over 3000 marine critters. Going south, history buffs can get to Lincoln for 11th-century Lincoln Cathedral, the third biggest in Britain after St Paul's in London and York Minster. Lincoln Castle is also well worth a look, to gaze geekily upon one of the four original remaining copies of the Magna Carta.
