Sunflower Park: Grass pitches

General

  • Remote and rural site in the Lincolnshire countryside
  • Home to many rescue animals including hens, pigs, geese and ducks
  • Well-stocked fishing lake

What a lush site this is for gainful countryside holidays in the Lincolnshire countryside, whiling days away fishing, woodland walking and just lazing by the lakeside with open book or one's very own thoughts.

There are animals too… Small and family-run Sunflower Park near Gainsborough has taken in quite a few rescue animals in their time (they're a friendly and welcoming lot here), so on site you'll meet the three family pets as well as some alpacas, several ex-battery hens and their strutting cockerel. Also adopted are a family of geese, ducks, Kunekune pigs and a couple of Gloucester old spots: do make sure to say hi to all.

As you might guess, this is a relaxed and amiable site, set remotely and rurally on a five-acre plot that includes paddocks, a playground, open pastureland, a private woodland walk and a well-stocked fishing lake exclusively for guests' use.

You might reckon the park's remote rural setting makes it a wildlife haven too, and you'd reckon right: its boundaries run directly into Laughton Forest's Tuetoes Wood, a Forestry Commission nature haven for walking and cycling among the trees, and home to wildlife like deer, foxes, owls, rabbits, jays, pheasants, cuckoos, woodpeckers – all within viewable and hearing distance from your pitch.

Sunflower Park has toilets, showers, a drying room, a launderette and ice pack freezing. Firepits are available for hire for the whole of guests' stays and arrive full and ready to light.

This place is such a treasure trove! Beautifully presented and always tidy and clean. The variety of rescue animals is lovely and they are well loved and cared for. The owners are so lovely and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. The shop has a great selection of items, and payment is via donation boxes or you can build a tab and pay via bank transfer. There is a lovely play park for the kids. We hardly saw our kids during our stay as they were always on the park making new friends. The toilet and shower facilities are great. And plenty of water pressure for the showers. Fires and bbqs are allowed as long as they are raised off the floor. The wild camping area overlooks the lake and is lovely and relaxing listening to the trickle of water in the evening when sitting down relaxing. There are washing up areas by the showers, and a hose to wash off your dogs, or your boots if you have been walking. Fresh drinking water is available.
We loved everything about this place and we have booked to come again in oct but on the electric pitch this time due to the change in weather. 1000 per cent recommend and as we only live 30 mins away we are going to make this our local camping getaway as much as possible.

Really nice relaxed camp site, Home is where you park it or pitch it. quite alot to do on site, will head back there with all the family one weekend. Lots of animals to see, excellent fire pits, toilets / showers all good, great owners.

    Disliked:

Didn't affect me in a camper but if you where in a tent the pond aeration ran for most of one of the nights so could stop you sleeping, may help some people if it was on a timer 10pm - 6am??

From the manager...

Thankyou so much.
We are very conscious of the aerator being on and only use when we are very concerned for the animals in the lake.
Unfortunately the damage is done at night so that is when it has to be on but again only when air pressure dictated a risk.

Ian and Josie were so friendly and helpful, pitches were quite large. We went as a group of 4 families and the kids loved the space to run around and explore the various spaces. The children enjoyed trying out fishing and meeting the various animals.

Everything - we only live 5 mins away but wanted to try out our new tent box. We were very lucky to have the whole field to ourselves as wasn’t too bothered about power.
Lovely quiet site with a warm welcome. The site has everything you need with enough animals to keep you entertained all day. We hired a fire pit for the night which was perfect!!

Local attractions

Walkers, hikers, cyclists, energetic runners and nature spotters have Tuetoes Wood right beside Sunflower Park, the Forestry Commission-managed and publicly accessible part of vast Laughton Forest.

If you're an avid animal fan, take time to get to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park just outside Doncaster, home to a menagerie of over 300 from around the world, and to The Deep at Hull, one of the biggest aquariums in the UK and a habitat for over 3000 marine critters.

Going south, history buffs can get to Lincoln for eleventh century Lincoln Cathedral, the third biggest in Britain after St Paul's in London and York Minster. Lincoln Castle is also well worth a look, to gaze geekily upon one of the four original remaining copies of the Magna Carta.
