  • Family-owned farm site in open countryside with Forest of Dean views
  • Under 10 minutes’ drive from Newnham-on-Severn and 25 to Wye Valley
  • Half a mile from the River Severn and the Severn Way
Big skies, green Gloucestershire countryside and artisan booze: what more could one want on a hol than this trip-boosting trio? If this sounds like just the holiday ticket, seek out Severn Valley Touring Caravan and Camping Site in the village of Awre, less than a five-minute walk from a traditional cider producer and a 10-minute drive to lovely Newnham-on-Severn. The park's also in an easy position to get to, as it's a mile and a half from the A48 Gloucester to Chepstow road and 25 minutes by car from the Wye Valley. Park up, pitch up then sit – cider in hand – to take in the gorgeous views from here (the Forest of Dean and the Malvern Hills are visible on clear days) and watch birds soar through the skies: the site's surrounds are home to creatures like kestrels, buzzards and red kites. Early risers might get a sneak peek of hares around the grounds at dawn too, and barn owls have been spotted in neighbouring fields during dusk in this ancient area once listed in the Domesday book as a royal hunting ground… Whatever the time of day or night, visitors have access to well-designed amenities like a purpose-built toilet and shower block, as well as covered washing-up facilities and a shower room that’s accessible to people with disabilities. Off site, the Severn Way is about half a mile away for roams beside the river. Time your visit right (check timetables online) to get a glimpse of the Severn Bore phenomenon, the surfable waves that roll right through the water at certain times of the year…

Electric grass pitch

Liked Friendly staff, clean toilet/shower facilities. Small touch of local produce available to purchase on site. Great for bird watching during the morning whilst eating your breakfast. Pitches were roomy with privacy hedges around the pitch. Lovely atmosphere, and very peaceful. Near to the Forest of Dean for exploration.

Disliked Nothing, it was pure bliss and sad that we had to come home.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely well kept site with nice big pitches enclosed by hedges. Facilities were amazing and so clean. Joanne was very friendly and helpful and the lovely fresh eggs and homemade apple juice for sale each evening were an added bonus, as well as gorgeous.

Disliked It is a bit remote and a lot of the footpaths were too overgrown to navigate.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Amazing site, everything was kept immaculate. Pitches were lovely and big with nice big hedges betwen Pitches. Owners are very friendly and approachable. Rufus the alpaca was the star of the site and knew his name and came to see us when we called him. Fresh apple juice and eggs on site. And a lovely cider farm in walking distance. You do need a car to get anywhere as it's quite far from shops. So just stock up before you go.

Disliked Couldn't take Rufus home.

All facilities (water, bin disposal etc) in one central location. Washing up sinks were kept clean.
Children loved the table tennis table.
Lovely selection of walks, maps, guide books to borrow which helped explore the area.
